We are thinking that we will have a bit of a break before the next comp. The next comp will be the 10 year anniversary event and to celebrate that we are targetting ending on 29th January 2011 the actual 10 year anniversary day so that would be at Cheltenham.
Been trying to get a bumper entry so if anyone knows likely joiners push them here or get them to email/text Vince or me.
We will probably try and make the plate a bit more sophisticated by awarding more points for winners in races with more runners - the trial has been running for half of this comp but we have yet to assess the results. I will post those here at some point.
A horse racing naps competition run by and for a group of racing fans in the UK. Selections by daily SMS/WhatsApp, £50 entry, 61 bets in 91 days. First started in 2001 and our 52nd Competition ended May 2024. Dates for 53rd are 18th August to 16th November 2024

25sep10 last day
The end of a pretty interesting run in with Pat unlucky to lose the lead so near the end to Tim. Sure you all know the result of the last day by now, another day with no winners! So Tim keeps first place and collects 900. Gary D won the plate. Final excel will be sent out later tonight.
Vince will contact all winners to distribute cash
Top ten were:
1 Tim Catlin +32.00 900 prize
2 Patrick Quinn +29.88 300
3 Jake Fifield +23.50 150
4 Vince Paige +19.89 100
5 Rod Brown +18.74 50
6 Alan Mabb +18.74 (6th on countback less winners)
7 Gary Dighton +12.55
8 Geoff Dighton +11.15
9 Mark Dighton +5.63
10 Barry James +0.50
Plate was:
1 Gary Dighton 154 100 prize
2 Jed Parramore 151 50
3 Rod Brown 139
4 Gary Pascoe 119
5 Kevin Wood 117
6 Ian Carpenter 109
Very unlucky for Alan losing cash on countback we have never had a draw - just to clarify tie break is greater number of winners if still level then the prize is shared.
Thanks to Kevin Dighton sponsor and the largest source of entries to the comp and all those who attended the last day.

24sep10 one left

See none of you tomorrow by the sounds of it!
Ok I'll spend the day with Vince on my own - thanks guys

23sep10 new leader
Drama with only 3 days to go Tim hits a 12-1 shot to go top, Mark O also had a good 10-1 winner the other 3 were all short although Jake's 6-4 shot consolidated his 3rd place well.
Plate is effectively down to 2 only Gary D & Jed can win it - in theory Rod can get 2nd but not if Jed scores a single point more in his last 2 bets
Main leader board is:
1 Tim Catlin 2 (left) +34.00
2 Patrick Quinn 1 +30.88
3 Jake Fifield 2 +25.50
4 Vince Paige 2 +21.89
5 Rod Brown 2 +20.74
6 Alan Mabb 1 +19.74
7 Gary Dighton 2 +14.55
8 Geoff Dighton 1 +12.15
9 Mark Dighton 2 +7.63
10 Barry James 2 +2.50
Nice effort by the Dighton clan with 3 of the 4 dightons in the top 10 - obviously don't need to say which one isn't there :-)

22sep10 that's better
29 bets 6 winners and 8 forced losers. All 3 at the top of the plate all had a winner and so that remains Gary D - 147, Jed - 144, Rod - 139 all with 3 bets to go.
In the main comp Rod, Vince, Jake, all had winners and so the leader board looks like this:
1 Patrick Quinn 2 (left) +31.88
2 Jake Fifield 3 +24.00
3 Tim Catlin 3 +22.00
4 Vince Paige 2 +21.89
5 Rod Brown 3 +21.74
6 Alan Mabb 1 +19.74
7 Gary Dighton 3 +14.26

21sep10 come on
28 bets and just a solitary winner for Kevin W 9-2 so no real change at all from yesterday, slight edge for Pat as he sat out while all those around him had losers

20sep10 nearly there
27 bets 4 winners and 6 forced losers best were Mark & Gary Dighton with a 14-1 winner - no problem if you want to tell your mates about 14-1 tips guys!! that lifted them both to +10.00 so in the hunt if they can repeat that. Another rare event today Kevin troubled the scorer with a nice 10-1 shot.
None of the top 5 had a winner and Rod fell below Vince who sat out today. Top of the table reads:
1.Patrick Quinn +32.88 (58 bets)
2.Jake Fifield +23.12 (56)
3.Tim Catlin +23.00 (57)
4.Vince Paige +22.49 (57)

19sep10 six to go
Busy weekend of drinking and poker (cashed in WCOOP last night) anyway back to the exciting final throws of the comp. Pretty poor performance over the weekend as everyone but the leaders are hunting around for ridiculously priced winners (my 2nd at 33-1 was a reasonable stab at that!). Those that did have a winner, and there were only 6 across the two days from 50+ bets, were mainly the leaders. Tim scoring Friday and Sunday at 6-1 & 8-1 and Pat hitting a 7-1 winner Sunday and Jake keeping up with a 6-1 winner Sunday as well.
Top 5 are:
Pat +33.88 (4 bets left)
Jake +24.12 (6)
Rod +23.34 (6)
Tim +23.00 (4)
Vince +22.49 (4)
Alan can feel a bit unlucky at +20.74 and not being in the cash but having had 2 more bets than Vince he would automatically overtake him if Vince fails to find another winner.
Plate - Jed is now top on 138 from 55 bets, Gary D 2nd 137 from 56 and 3rd Rod on 134 from 55.

16sep10 happy anniversary
Yes it's my 22nd wedding anniversary today, just 3 winners nothing of note on the main leaderboard.
In the plate Jed lept from 3rd to lead on 133 points from 52 bets, 2nd Gary D 132 points from 53 bets and in 3rd and out of the money Rod129 from 54.

15sep10 ten to go
29 bets 5 winners and 5 forced losers. Winners were Bert, Gary D, Jed, Jake, & Mark O - most significant was Jake who while he only managed a 7-4 winner, nevertheless moved to within 4p of Vince in 2nd. They are both well within striking range only 8.00 behind the leader Pat
Gary D's favourite won but Rod's could only manage a lowly 8th and so that let Rod back into the lead in the plate. While Jed's treble over the last three days has put him right back in the mix only 5 points behind Rod but with 2 bets in hand.

14sep10 good day
29 bets 7 winners and 7 forced losers. Best was 10-1 by Barry J but the most significant on the leader board was Jake 4-1 and now goes 3rd 11.51 behind the leader.

13sep10 ordinary
Standard day 27 bets 6 winners and 9 forced. Longest price was only 11-4, Geoff D picked up a 5-2 winner to consolidate in 3rd and in the plate Rod went back top but now 2 bets behind but only 2 points ahead as Gary D waited out today.

12sep10 sorry
Busy, pissed at Kareoke party, weekend away at wedding - in that order so not been able to get to the blog and even the updates.
Drama over the last 4 days with 4 good winners (amoungst a total of 18 winner in all)
Bert P & Pat both with the same 14-1 winner today (hope you all got the stop press I sent out by teaxt earlier this afternoon), Mark D with a 22-1 winner on Friday and Jake F with a 16-1 winner today as well.
So Pat now top and actually 7.72 clear of Vince and Geoff now 16.23 behind the leader. Jake sneaks into 4th only 28p behind Geoff but Jake is dormy so Geoff is a secure 3rd for the moment.
In the plate we also have a new leader Gary D takes over on 122 points from Rod on 119 and Gary has a bet in hand.

08sep10 zero
None not a single winner - so kevin got half of what was needed :-)
A few seconds so a good day for Pat & Alan who missed their bets and both gained 1.00 on the leader.
Roger & Neil need to watch out only got 8 & 7 bets left respectively and with one kept for the last day they need 10 no bet days in the next 16 days.

07sep10 big winner
Sorry haven't got to this sooner
Monday - quiet, well in terms of winners just 3 Gary, Gary & Barry! But a real stand out winner from Barry at 20-1 if he had only not been so crap so far he would be right in the mix :-) as it is he sits on -13.50 in 20th place.
Tuesday - much more impressive 32 bets only Jake missed out with 9 forced losers and 8 winners. The leader Vince (together with Geoff and Alan) all picked My Kingdom at 9-4 which pushes Vince to 6.28 clear of Pat but with both Geoff and Alan not far away in 3rd and 4th at only just over 10.00 behind
In the plate the position is:
1st Rod 118 points (50 bets)
2nd Gary D 112 (48)
3rd Kevin W 105 (50)
4th Jed 100 (43)
28th Kevin D 23 (43) :-)
So Jed only needs to average 2.5 points each for his 7 bets in hand and he would basically be joint leader. Kevin just needs 18 winners his last 18 bets and no-one else to score a point to scrape into 2nd and the cash so arithmetically we can't write him off yet :-)

RULE ANNOUNCEMENT
Just to confirm that the new rule that was introduced for the first time in this comp, that restricts the maximum odds at the start of the comp to 33-1 is now lifted - we have reached the final 20 days stage now (actually yesterday) and so odds above 33-1 now count in full.
Sunday, 5 September 2010
05sep10 steady day
27 bets 7 forced losers and 6 winners inc the leader, Vince, who went for a 10-11f. Excel will be sent later.
Mark O went dormy today
Mark O went dormy today
04sep10 full house
All 33 players had a bet a very rare ocurrance. So 33 bets, 6 forced losers and 5 winners, best was Tim with 12-1 and both Ian C and Mark O had nice 4-1 winners. The other two were Rod and Kevin W with shorter priced winners in their bid for the plate.
So on the main leaderbosrd that lifts Tim to +11.00 exactly 14.00 behind Vince in 4th, Alan M is in 5th the last money spot just 3p ahead of Lee in 6th.
Plate Kevin W retakes 2nd with his winner from Gary D who could only manage a 3rd. Rod still looks odds on for the plate on level bets with Kevin w but 12 points ahead.

03sep10 one only
29 bets 8 forced losers and just one winner for Jed at 5-2 nothing much else to report in the main comp, so leaders remain separated by the same 3.12
In the plate Gary D scrapped a 2nd to break the 100 points barrier and now lies 10 points behind Rod the leader with 3 bets in hand. Jed isn't out of it, 8 bets in hand on the leader and 25 points behind, but a tough ask.

02sep10 quiet
29 bets 7 forced losers and just 3 winners. Best was Roger D with a nice 10-1 winner to move up to 6th +8.25 Steve and Ken J both with different 11-4 winners. Vince playing a bit more of a tactical game and not betting moved to +3.12 ahead of Pat but one bet fewer.
Plate very quiet

01sep10 catching up
Sorry for the delay forgot to write this last night got sidetracked by poker - won a seat at the WCOOP event#11 but have decided to sell it.
Another good day at the top of the leaderboard (well for some) 5 winners including a very nice 9-2 winner for Lee and Pat that puts Lee back in the mix after a run of 7 losers and continues Pat's purple patch. This moves him to back into 2nd and only 2.12 behind Vince level bets. Lee sits on +12.46 in 5th.
None of the leaders in the plate had a winner not helped by Auden at 1-3f getting turned over.
