Countdown -2

That's not the crappy quiz Vince :-)

75 entrants now, 3 more joined today including a long lost friend Luke Silk.  Luke Silk was one of the original band of 6 that founded the modern day competition back for the NH season 2000/01 competition.  So that means we have 5 of the original 6 in this event. Only one missing is Dave Bentley.

A rare moment when I can have an excuse to mention a victory by me, I won the this opening competition (decimated by a major ban on racing because of foot and mouth) with the lowest ever winning total of -£15.87!

Have a good new year celebration

final reminder has gone out

Vince has just sent out the final reminders and I'm starting the file creation tomorrow we are at a brilliant 72 entrants now, and it wouldn't be impossible for this to rise further as we start.  Clearly with so many new boys (and girls) we will need to wait until we have seen the colour of their money and they have had their first bet before we can confirm prizes - however we are expecting to be at £1,500.00 for the winner and prizes down to at least 10th in the main comp and 5th in the plate.

New Comp entrants update

68 and counting

Boxing Day

OK back to the important stuff

Don't forget Captain Chris in the King George today, very disappointing that Diamond Harry is a non runner so just leaves a field of 7 other wise each way the definite bet so now only really worth going for the win.  Although they still have first 3 in the place market on Betfair currently 2.24. - Remember he won The Arkle this year!!

So my yankie today is all at Kempton:

1:25 Trafalgar Road
2.00 Grands Crus
3.10 Captain Chris
3.40 Christopher Wren

HAPPY XMAS

All naps compers (?!) have a good Christmas and New Year

New Comp not far away we are already at 57 entrants (record is 58) with maybe another 20 who might join.

I'll be at Cheltenham on 1st January, en famille, so see you there for the big kick off and maybe a small beverage or two

HAVE FUN

What is the naps comp

For the new visitors and those not used to these things below is a summary of what we are doing!

This is a competition, started in 2001, run by a group of mates (+ a few more we have gathered on the way) who are racing fans. Each competition is over 3 months and during that period we each have to nominate our best bet of the day (nap) for 61 days.  The reason it isn't every day is to allow for people away on holiday and when we are all too busy or pick a non-runner, in this way it is fair to everyone and everyone has the same number of bets.

The bets are not 'real' they are what you think is the best pick for that day, you text them in to the administrators before the daily cutoff, and your selection is recorded.  If it loses you score -£1.00 if it wins you score the odds to a stake of £1.00, so a 5-1 winner would get you +£5.00 and so on.  At the end of the 91 day period the person with the highest total wins the cash.  There is a small side competition based on the number of winners called the plate, but the main cash and action is as above.

So what about cash, as with any type of competition involving betting it only really works if we all have something staked, it means we are committed and so as well as the glory you get a decent prize!

So this is what we do: we ask for £50.00 from everyone who enters and very importantly ALL we collect is distributed back as prizes.  For example in the last competition there were 13 prizes ranging from £50 (a free play in the next comp) to £1,100.00 for the overall winner.  The prizes obviously change depending on how many enter each time.  We usually have 3 competitions of 3 months each every year, this gives the guys doing the admin some time off!

There is a blog www.napscomp.blogspot.com that is updated every day with a commentary on what has happened that day and other miscellaneous comments and stuff.  Each week every participant gets emailed a full report showing their, and everyone else's, selections and detailing all the results for all of the previous weeks action. On the last day we all try and meet up at a race meeting (next time it's Stratford on 31mar12) and present the very impressive solid silver antique cup to the winner, take a few photos, help him drink his winnings etc.

We would love to have new members join us but remember we are just a group of mates this is not sponsored, not a business, and I do have a day job! So any problems, thoughts or moans just ring or email us. However with the amount of cash we are now giving out as prizes we take the rules and procedures seriously for example for the comp that starts on 01jan12 we may have £3,500 in the prize pool and that is a fair bit of cash, it is kept separately and the rules are applied across the board but recognizing this is a social enterprise so hopefully with discretion

See you soon

Maurice

another MJE nap

OK a little stronger with this one although my selection does have a pretty strong favourite to overturn.

Carlisle 1.55 Highrate, 3rd last time out in only it's 2nd run over hurdles - watched this race it stayed on nicely in that 17f race here in the soft (heavy today).  Run was better than that raw form suggests he hit a couple of the last three hurdles and could have finished closer in my view.

Was nearly 6-1 earlier on Betfair but Bet365 has it at 7-2 this is despite the post forecasting it at 14-1 (before the 2 non runners)

yesterdays tentative nap

Right to be tentative the jockey Smullen was utter rubbish - on a horse that has good cruising speed won from the front over 10f last time.  He has a nice draw fails to take the horse to the front, this time it is only 8f so needs to put these horses likely to have a turn of foot under pressure.  No he tucks in gets boxed coming round the final turn (surprise surprise) and half the field slips him so he has no chance to get back - pathetic hope Smullen reads this.  Clearly I wasn't the only punter upset as it got backed into 5-2f

16dec11 New Years Day at Chelters

For those thinking of going on Sunday 1st January check out the Gold package for tickets, normal entrance on the day is £25.00 for club.  Gold package includes racecard £3, radio link thing £5 (I think), food voucher £9 and tote betting voucher £10 for a total price of £38.00.  So that means an effective cost of entry down to £11, I just bought my tickets.

Clearly that sum doesn't work for anyone who doesn't intend to eat drink or gamble while there :-)

link is www.cheltenham.co.uk

16dec11 tentative tip

Horse I have been watching runs at Dundalk 7.00pm tonight Key Breeze only 100-30 currently on Betfair if you are desperate to have a bet tonight in Eire that would be my nap!

Also met the owner of a very nice colt that he is considering supplementing for next year's 2000 guineas - can't tell you the name yet but watch this space and hold your anti post bets for next year

16dec11 42 and counting

Great early response to email blast as at this morning we are at 42 already and Vince Paige hasn't started the phone around nag routine yet!

Great to welcome back to comp Val Impey a previous dual winner of the plate (2005) watch out Justin Sercombe & Stuart Bentham you won't have it all your own way this time.

Another blast from the past is one of the long lost Hereford boys Jon Curtis - on past form don't think he will be troubling the leaders :-) actually he is also a past winner from January 2003, bit like Kevin Dighton really - he also fluked a big winner!

20 already signed up for comp #30

Cracking start to the entries for the next comp 20 confirmations received today already and 19 of them have paid!!

Feedback so far on 2 prize rule is very much against any change on the basis that if you are good enough to win both then you should get the cash!!

So unless we get some sudden, and unexpected, flood of opinions the other way looks like we will be sticking with the current rules.

Opinion needed for rule change

We have been discussing the possibility of introducing the rule that no-one can win more than one prize.

What are peoples view on this - we are undecided?

Photo's from 10dec11

Uploaded but they take a day or so to get collected by the search and displayed - sorry but Pete Long has managed to get into yet another shot!

10dec11 what a finish

So Kevin Dighton held on in the most exciting way on the last day - having picked an early odd on shot that got turned over he had to watch Mark Quinn, Mark Kelly, Wayne Morton & Alan Mabb all pick horses that would have given them the win and all of those selections finished in the frame!  But hold on he did, in fact the only winner of the day fell to Stuart Bentham who snatched the win away from Justin Sercombe by securing a 10 point winner where Justin Sercombe could only muster a point and so got beaten by 2 points.  Stuart Bentham's winner also secured him 9th place and the last cash position in the main comp - Well done.

That's it from me for a while although I may post a few musings and ideas for the next comp - Vince Paige will start nagging everyone soon about the next one which was confirmed yesterday as stating 01jan12.

09dec11 goodbye Denman

7 winners today from 43 bets on this the penultimate day.  Couple of last minute dashes for the cash positions Jimmy McGarrity an 8-1 winner today put him just 31p behind Dave Kingsbury in 10th place and , of course Mark Kelly who moved into 3rd with his 5-2 winner.  Kevin Dighton played a very nice hand today selecting the winner at any price he needed to go into the last day in front.  Don't have the stats but can't be all that many who lead into the last day and don't win - it has happened but not often.

Well done to Stuart Bentham who got a winner today to keep the plate going to the last day Justin Sercombe needs 5 points or more to guarantee the win anything less than a 10 point winner for Stuart Bentham will give it to Justin Sercombe anyway.

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow.

08dec11 Oracle show

Sorry no lunchtime update for top 6 was in a show all day.  Anyway just 4 winners from 47 bets.  First two of the top 6 used up another bet without a winner today Wayne Morton & Mark Kelly further strengthening the position of the top 2.  Winners were 15-2 for Lee Constable in 8th nice winner and pretty much secures some cash for him also Gary Dighton picked a 15-2 winner as well.  Great result for Stuart Bentham in the plate who picked a 10 point winner while Justin failed to score so he narrowed the gap to just 12 points and he still has an extra bet to go.  The other winner was Tom Collins that moved him above me in 31st place!

I will be at Cheltenham tomorrow so can the 3 in the top 6 with a bet left get them in nice and early and when the three of them are in I will put them up no matter what the time.

07dec11 Reading :-)

4 winners from 43 bets (assuming the two late bets at Kempton tonight both lose).  The 4 winners were all out of the top 10 of note was Jake Fifield's first winner at 2-7 assume he was just making sure he didn't have a completely blank set of 61 bets :-).  Best by far was Gary Cawsey with a very nice 12-1 winner that took him back up into contention for cash on just -£2.90.  Other winners were Dave Fifield 8-1 and Tom Collins 13-8.

In the plate anything less than 2 points from Stuart Bentham tomorrow will give the victory to Justin Sercombe

07dec11 top 6 - today's bets

Kevin Dighton - NO BET
Mark Quinn -  NO BET
Wayne Morton - NO BET
Mark Kelly - NO BET
Paul Berg - lost
Alan Mabb - NO BET

06dec11 old leader is back

Yes Kevin Dighton returns to the top 24p ahead but with one bet more to have that's after his 5-4 winner today. The other winner in the top 10 was Mark Kelly, 2-1, to consolidate in 4th and the only other winner from the 43 bets placed today was Justin Sercombe with a 5 pointer.

So in the plate that puts Justin Sercombe 22 points ahead of 2nd which I think probably sews it up although mathematically that's not the case.

Hey want a laugh! just in case you were wondering what has happened to Vince Paige on the leader board need I say more than his last three results PU, last, and last.  Hard to imagine what system you could think up that gave you a worse outcome than that!

06dec11 top6 - today's bets

Mark Quinn -  NO BET
Kevin Dighton - Hunt Ball, Fontwell 2.10
Wayne Morton - NO BET
Mark Kelly - Bob's Dream, Sedgefield 1.50
Paul Berg - NO BET
Alan Mabb - NO BET

05dec11 all getting very cagey

48 bets and just two winners today, Rod Brown 5-2 and Jimmy McGarrity brings up a double with a 4-1 shot to move to only -£6.49 less than £10.00 from cash.  Among the leaders Mark Quinn had his last bet before Saturday a loser so just opening up a small window for those below him who now know exactly what they need to do to get to Saturday in the lead.

New small top 5 table for the plate now added

05dec11 top 6 - today's bets

Mark Quinn -  Rebel Melody, Plumpton 3.10
Kevin Dighton - NO BET
Wayne Morton - NO BET
Mark Kelly - Royal Mile, Musselburgh 2.50
Paul Berg - Sam Sharp, Plumpton 12.40 (UNPLACED 11-1)
Alan Mabb - NO BET

04dec11 Spurs away brilliant

Never mind Cheltenham Town FC winning it Spurs away for loads of cash will be fine.

5 winners from 53 bets today, Lee Constable picked a 7-1 winner to return to the top 10 in 8th place on +£5.23 but he is dormy so could easily slip back out of the money with most bets to have among the leaders.  The only other top 10 winner was Pat Quinn Jnr with a nice 9-4 winner to consolidate in 7th.  Wayne Morton sat out today so as all those around him had losers he gained £1.00 and also 2nd place as Kevin Dighton slipped back again.  Other winners were Jimmy McGarrity, the defending champ, with a 85-40 winner in the lucky last, Adam Slater another of the Milton Keynes Contingent also picked the same 7-1 winner to move up the table and above Jimmy McGarrity which will please him.  The final winner of the 5 today was Kevin Hall who has now picked 4 from the last 5 bets and sits in 15th on -£4.59, if he keeps that up he could grab one of the smaller cash prizes.

In the plate Martin Long is pretty much nailed on 4th as he can't catch Kevin Wood in 3rd now.  So the top 3 look like this, all with 4 bets to go:

Justin Sercombe 241
Stuart Bentham 224
Kevin Wood 212

So all still to play for in the plate

04dec11 top 6 - today's bets

Mark Quinn - Ballyfitz, Kelso 2.30
Kevin Dighton - Outlaw Tom, Kelso 2.30
Wayne Morton - no bet
Mark Kelly - The Panama Kid, Kelso 1.00 (3RD 3-1)
Paul Berg - Strong Knight, Kelso 1.30
Alan Mabb - You Know Yourself, Kelso 2.00

Saturday, 3 December 2011

03dec11 Chelters in 3rd round

Assuming the two late Wolverhampton selections are losers then the only winners today were three odds on shots for two of the leaders in the plate and Kevin Hall.  That means the only move in the top 10 is the £1.00 gain that Mark Quinn gets over everyone else by sitting out again, that puts him £2.01 ahead of Kevin Dighton in 2nd and £2.86 ahead of Wayne Morton in 3rd.  Panel on Right now shows the remaining bets for each top 10 player.

Plate reads:

Justin Sercombe 236 points from (56 bets)
Stuart Bentham 224 (57)
Kevin Wood 207 (56)
Martin Long 124 (54)

So lets have a nice away draw at Chelsea - given their current home form we might even win it :-)

03dec11 top 6 - today's bets

Mark Quinn - no bet
Kevin Dighton - Knight Pass, Sandown 12.55 (3RD 4-6f)
Wayne Morton - Wishful Thinking, Sandown 3.05
Mark Kelly - Master Overseer, Chepstow 2.05
Paul Berg - Warne's Way, Sandown 1.25
Alan Mabb - Shalimar Fromentro, Aintree 2.10

Friday, 2 December 2011

02dec11 another big'un

This time only 25-1 for John Roach which moves him to -£5.52 that's £8.34 behind the first cash place.  Overall today we have 53 bets and 7 winners the only scorer in the top 10 was Tom Feeny with a 5-2 winner to consolidate in 8th, all but Justin Sercombe of the top 4 in the plate had the same 2-5 winner and the other two winners were Howard Kelly and Michael Brook.

Plate reads:

Justin Sercombe 236 points from (55 bets)
Stuart Bentham 219 (56)
Kevin Wood 197 (55)
Martin Long 124 (53)

No-one else has got over 100!

02dec11 top 6 - today's naps

Kevin Dighton - Power Pack Jack, Exeter 1.30
Mark Quinn - no bet
Wayne Morton - Rosco Flyer, Lingfield 3.30
Paul Berg - Ballyegan, Exeter 3.15
Mark Kelly - New Code, Sandown 3.40
Alan Mabb - Diamond Brook, Exeter 1.30

01dec11 Pat's first winner

WOW! and what a winner 66-1 - yes Pat Quinn Jnr's first winner of the comp after 53 losers in a row and proof there is hope for us all, moved from bottom, that's 58th, up to 7th and +£13.00, even better knocks Vince Paige out of the cash :-)

Hard to believe that something could have knocked the fact that Mark Quinn has taken over the lead from the lead news item.  A real sicken-er for Kevin Dighton just 1p behind but has three more bets to have.  £600 of prize money hanging on this!  Lets not forget both Wayne Morton in 3rd after his 5-2 winner now only 86p off the lead and the impressive 15-2 winner for Mark Kelly to lift him right into the mix in 4th only £3.24 behind.  Overall 8 winners from 48 bets - I'm sure those winners not mentioned will understand.

Is it the accountant in me or is this actually quite exciting

Who cares about the plate

01dec11 new leader by 1p!!

Check out updated top 6 over - full update will be late evening a large number of selections at Wolverhampton this evening.

30nov11 G'day Bruce

Drama at the top of the comp today with Kevin slotting in an early winner at 13-8 but Mark Quinn banging in a 7-1 winner later on to zoom into 2nd place only 99p behind and Kevin Dighton has 4 more bets left to have.  Overall 6 winners from 54 bets, others were Steve Walton doing his usual end of comp surge (if only he didn't give everyone a 20 bet start), Kevin Hall 15-8, a very sweet 10 pointer for Kevin Wood and Michael Brook picked up and 11-4 winner down in the depths.

In the plate among the top 4 everyone scored 2 points except Kevin Wood with his 10 point winner which certainly did him some good moving to within 22 points of 2nd with a bet in hand - not impossible

30nov11 top 6 - today's bets

Kevin Dighton - Kumbeshwar, Hereford 1.20 (result 1ST 13-8f)
Wayne Morton - Silenzio, Kempton 6.30
Paul Berg - Quinder Spring, Catterick 2.00
Mark Quinn - Nosecond Chance, Hereford 2.50
Alan Mabb -no bet
Mark Kelly - Ours, Hereford 2.50

next comp initial proposal

Early thoughts still to be confirmed are start on Sunday 1st January (nice Cheltenham meeting for the first day) and end at Stratford on Saturday 31st March - for those attending the last day of this comp further discussions will happen when you all meet up at Cheltenham week Saturday (I'm at Man U v Wolves).

Costs and cash arrangements etc. will still all remain as is

Any comments or thoughts on this welcome

29nov11 2nd gets a win

Just 4 winners today from 46 bets.  The biggest was Lee Constable 10-1 that lifts him up to 10th and on the bubble just 27p behind Vince Paige in 9th.  Wayne Morton still sits in 2nd place despite being the only one from the top 6 to get a winner but now is only £1.72 behind Kevin Dighton but Wayne Morton has had two more bets than him so convention would have it that he is really leading.  Other winners were Howard Kelly 9-2 and Tim Catlin 10-1 both of these guys sit a long way back.

No change at all in the plate.

29nov11 top 6 - today's bets

Kevin Dighton - no bet (NR)
Wayne Morton - Emmuska Lingfield 1.45 (1ST 13-8f)
Paul Berg - no bet
Mark Quinn - Chokidar, Lingfield 3.20
Mark Kelly - Hever Road, Southwell 12.20 (unplaced 100-30)
Alan Mabb - no bet

28nov11 puntersmate.net

5 winners from 50 bets today, as you can see none of the top 5 had a winner and Alan Mabb sat out so gaining £1 on them all.  Tom Feeny collected a double with an 11-2 winner to move from 10th into the cash in 7th and a very nice 8-1 winner from Dave Kingsbury lifted him to +£4.82 and 8th.  Other winners were Steve Walton 9-4 and both Barry Pemble and Stuart Bentham picked the 2-7 shot.  Not sure of those tactics from Barry Pemble there as he sits right by me so you can rest assured if he is down there 2-7 is going to help :-)

So the winner for Stuart Bentham moved him to only 27 points behind Justin Sercombe (who failed to score) with just 8 bets remaining for them both, don't think you can quite write off Stuart Bentham's chance of catching him yet.

28nov11 top 6 - today's bets

Kevin Dighton - Spinning Waters, Ffos Las 2.55
Wayne Morton - Shannon's Boy, Ffos Las 3.30
Paul Berg - Shipboard Romance, Folkestone 12.30 (Unplaced 11-10f)
Mark Quinn - The Black Baron, Ffos Las 1.45
Mark Kelly - Elegant Olive, Folkestone 2.35
Alan Mabb - no bet

Rule Reminder

In the event of a tie for any of the cash places the result will be decided on the total number of winners.  If total winners are the same then the prize will be shared.

27nov11 25-1 winner!

Only two winners today Tom Feeny shoots into 10th place on -50p rising from the depths occupied by the likes of me after securing a very nice 25-1 winner.  Hard luck to George Casserley who sort of let Vince Paige talk him off that horse as well.  FYI George that would have put you in at 7th just above guess who Vince Paige!!  The other winner was for Alan Mabb 5-2 that further consolidates his 6th place and puts him also well in the mix.   All of the top guys sat out apart from the leader, Kevin Dighton, who picked a runner in a very tough 25 runner race at Navan - presumably to try and put this to bed in one mega hit - try again :-).

All quiet in the plate Justin Sercombe is on 234 points still from 52 bets and Stuart Bentham is 2nd on 202, level bets.

Full results excel will go out later tonight

27nov11 top 5 today's bets

Kevin Dighton - Wicklow Lad, Navan 2.20
Wayne Morton - no bet
Paul Berg - no bet
Mark Quinn - no bet
Mark Kelly - no bet

26nov11 Carruthers stirs it up

7 winners from 52 bets (assuming the late 8.50 bet from Dave Fifield loses).  So Carruthers was the selection of Pete Long but also more importantly Paul Berg. That win fires Paul Berg into 3rd on +£26.18 less than £2 behind 2nd place Wayne Morton.  The other winners were a 4-5, 10 point winner for the plate boys Stuart Bentham and Kevin Wood, the final winners were Kevin Hall 7-4, George Casserley 7-2, Adam Slater 5-2.

Off to download the cash from my Betfair account after the 1-3 win :-)

Oxford 1 Cheltenham 3

So how many backed this I got 40-1.  Kevin good job you refused to lay this :-)

See post on 23nov11!!

26nov11 today's top 4

Kevin Dighton - Aiteen Thirtythree, Newbury 3.15
Wayne Morton - Michel Le Bon, Newbury 3.10
Mark Quinn - Fistral Beach, Newbury 3.45
Mark Kelly - Great Endeavour, Newbury 3.10

Good luck guys - mine has already been brought down in the first!

25nov11 late update

Had to wait yesterday for my winning nap in the 8.50 at Dundalk which was the joint best winner of the day at 4-1.  In total we had 8 winners from 51 bets and the other two winners with different 4-1 winners were of more significance than my rise to 34th place, they were Paul Berg who remained in 6th but pulled more than £11.00 clear of Vince Paige in 7th and Wayne Morton who has snatched 2nd place leaping over both Mark Quinn and Mark Kelly.  Other top 10 winners were Alan Mabb 7-2 and Justin Sercombe 10-11 all three are now putting Kevin Dighton the leader under intense pressure.

In the plate Justin Sercombe got the only winner - he is now 42 points clear on 234 points which long ago broke the best ever score in the plate which was previously him at 223. Still nothing as good however as the 204 scored by Heather Plant in December 2004 she got 204 on the old system a quick recalculate of Justin Sercombe's current score using the old system would put him only on 149!

Friday, 25 November 2011

25nov11 today's top 3

The bet cutoff has closed and so the selections for the top 3 today are:

Kevin Dighton - Cue Card Newbury 1.35
Mark Quinn - Kasbadali, Newbury 2.45
Mark Kelly - Ben Cee Pee, Doncaster 2.00

Thursday, 24 November 2011

24nov11 Thanksgiving

Just 2 winners from 51 bets today those were Justin Sercombe 10-11 to move from 10th to 8th (the only top 10 mover), and John Roach 11-2.

At the top of the plate Stuart recorded his 2nd consecutive 0 points for the first time this comp! the others in the top 4 all got 5 points. So Justin Sercombe remains well clear on 229 points 38 ahead of Stuart Bentham in 2nd who has 2 more bets to come than the leader.  Kevin Wood sits 3rd on 163 points, 28 away from 2nd with 2 bets in hand so not all over there and the move from 3rd to 2nd is worth £50.

Wednesday, 23 November 2011

23nov11 big match Saturday

Oxford v Cheltenham - prediction 1-3 (35-1 on Betfair tonight) Kevin I'll have £20 for £700 willing to lay it? and £30 for Cheltenham to win any score to win £70, Oxford draw or win then I'm paying your next comp entry.   Cheltenham win by any other score than 3-1 you are paying mine, Cheltenham win 3-1 your done.

Notice new top 10 feature which should help and keep my notes a bit shorter! 6 winners from 45 bets today Paul Berg was the only player in the cash to get a winner so that saw him pull away from Vince Paige in 7th with a nice 100-30 winner, Gary Cawsey dropped out of the top 10 replaced by Justin Sercombe who must have picked his longest priced winner of the comp with another 100-30 winner.  10th place is the bubble.

Only Martin Long of the top 4 in the plate didn't get a winner but no change in the order - can't see that changing now.  FYI Justin Sercombe can now only be caught by one of the other guys in the top 4 so is certain of at least a £50 collect.

Tuesday, 22 November 2011

22nov11 don't worry Kev

The two Marks, Kelly and Quinn both bet and neither won so Kevin Dighton's lead extended to £7.36 but Mark Quinn in 2nd has had three more bets.  Overall today 6 winners from 49 bets nothing special so no great movers in either competition.  I suppose Wayne Morton with a 9-2 winner deserves a bit of a mention while he remains in 4th place he does move up to within 25p of Mark Kelly in 3rd spot and Mark Kelly is 4 bets behind.

All very close just outside the cash in the main comp Kevin Hall who sits 19th on -£7.05 is less than £8 behind 9th place that pays £50.

21nov11 Kev's getting worried

Respectable 8 winners from 44 bets today (inc. 13 forced losers).  Mark Kelly bang in the middle of a purple patch and he tells me he backed them today at Ludlow, hits his 5th winner from the past 6 bets and selects the best price winner of the day to boot.  Lucky or what, also our rule 16 means the 25p deduction for rule 4 in his race doesn't apply - Kevin Dighton must be hoping he doesn't lose by £2.00! well he probably hopes he doesn't lose period :-).  Dave Fifield also picked that winner to move up to -£3.50 and 16th spot only £5.32 from the cash.  Paul Berg edged a bit further away from Vince Paige in 6th with a 11-10 winner and Gary Cawsey picked the same horse to go positive on +£0.10!

But Mark Kelly remains the man on the move here only £6.10 behind the leader now and less than £2.00 from 2nd place, Prizes are £1,100/£500/£300.

Martin Long was the only point scorer in the plate today with a 2 point 2nd.

Don't forget gloves are off now we are in the final 21 bet period so the restriction on the SP of any winning bet is lifted so even Pat Quinn Jnr who is £44.00 down after 44 bets can challenge - well not really

Cheltenham Festival Tickets

Don't forget end of next week is the last time for the early booking discount!

Thursday saves £10.00 £60 instead of £70 and Friday £5.00 £75 instead of £80 for club (those are the two days I'm going)

20nov11 foggy

5 winners from 45 bets today but that total does include 15 forced losers so really pretty quiet.  Howard Kelly & Bert Peart both picked the same 13-2 winner Kevin Wood and Stuart Sercombe both picked the same short priced winner at Punchestown (some good horses running there today none less than Last Installment already only 16-1 for the RSA at Cheltenham).  The other winner was Mark Kelly who remained in 4th place despite his 11-2 winner but now sits just behind Wayne Morton.

19nov11 Kauto superstar

51 bets 5 winners and only one of them was Kauto, Alan Mabb so that very nice 6-1 winner moved him up a place into 4th on +£19.73, other winners were Paul Berg with the best of the day 10-1 which following his 20-1 winner yesterday has shot him into the cash in 6th place - relegating Vince to 7th :-). The three others were Kevin Hall, Mark Kelly, and Adam Slater.

In the plate all the leaders had 5 point 2nds today so no changes.

Hopefully that will keep Kauto Star in the Gold Cup which he won't win and make the price on Long Run all the better.

18nov11 gamblers in need

Ignoring Joanne Hutson who has picked something running at 9.15 tonight we have had a busy but less than profitable day.  A total of 51 bets with 6 winners, the main two of note was Mark Kelly with a 4-1 winner to move into 4th above both Alan Mabb & Vince Paige, but a 20-1 winner from Paul Berg moved him up positive but still only in 12th.

All quiet in the Plate

Resign Blatter - enough said!

17nov11 2nd place drama

Mark Quinn hits another big winner 9-1 to put himself only £2.36 behind Kevin Dighton for the lead both on 47 bets.  Overall 49 bets and 6 winners, other 5 winners were Gary Dighton, Kevin Hall, Pete Long, Paul Pritchard and Wayne Morton again who helps his cause in 3rd and puts himself more than £10.00 clear of Alan Mabb in 4th.

A rare happening in the plate the leader Justin Sercombe had a bet and failed to score a point!

I'm off to listen to the greatest athlete of all time on the radio now - answer tomorrow

16nov11 Johnno gone - no!

6 winners form 44 bets and they were Mark Nutting & Tom Feeney both with a nice 8-1 winner, Wayne Morton 9-2, Stuart Bentham usual 30-100 shot from Eire, Kevin Wood a slightly more impressive 2-1 winner in a 16 runner event across water, & Gary Cawsey with a 7-2 winner.

All of that didn't make that much difference apart from Wayne Morton opening up a healthy gap between himself in 3rd and Alan Mabb in 4th.  Kevin remains £12.36 ahead of Mark Quinn now on level bets.

16nov11 good start

Kevin Dighton kicks the day off with a loser in the 1.00 at Wariwck - that's £1.00 clawed back

15nov11 average

46 bets just 4 winners they were Roger Dore again continuing his steady progress, Justin Sercombe, Mark Kelly with a small consolidating 11-8 winner and Gary Pascoe who is now starting to take things a bit more seriously now he is dormy with 4 winners from the last 7 bets having brought up a double today with a 5-1 winner to follow the 3-1 yesterday, he still sits in only 18th place but it could be a nicely timed run from the back.

All quiet on the plate front except for the inexorable rise of the Justin Sercombe lead which now has stretched to 40 points over Stuart Bentham in 2nd. remarkably more than 50% of the field haven't even scored a cumulative total of 40 points!

Come on Capello surely you can now see that the only way we can win is to get rid of all the old guard they have had their turn and messed up so bye bye, Lampard, Terry, Ferdinand, Gerrard, etc.

No place for sentiment

Blog page views

Well done to us we have just passed through the 10,000 page views on the blog - positive this puts us well ahead of loads of these things

SPREAD THE WORD!

14nov11 busiest day

48 bets and 8 winners, most significant was the 3-1 winner for Kevin Dighton to bring up a double and to stretch his lead to £11.36 nice piece of consolidation tactics from Kevin there.  Other winners were nothing special Roger Dore kept his recent decent form with a 5th winner from the last 12 to go to +£2.17 and on the bubble.

All but Stuart Sercombe popped over to Limerick again today but it got turned over :-) and annoyingly Kevin Dighton has nipped past both Vince Paige and I into 6th in the plate - only playing for honour but need to clip his wings a little bit.

Dave - final table in the Sky Primo last night assume you weren't railing

13nov11 some nice winners

8 winners from 41 bets winners worthy of special mention Kevin Dighton 9-4 to extend the lead a little bit to £7.36 ahead of 2nd placed Mark Quinn.  16-1 winner for Paul Evans that lifts him into the top half, Lee Constable 15-2 to move back up at +£7.23 and in 9th place, Jimmy McGarrity picked the same winner as Kevin Dighton but just sits mid table all the rest were odds on.

In the plate good winners for everyone other than Kevin Wood and Justin Sercombe broke through the 200 point barrier and sits 33 points clear on 209! The record points total for the plate is 223 already held by Justin Sercombe for the comp that finished January this year that looks certain to be smashed - unstoppable.

FYI the biggest winning total in the main comp was Lee Constable in December 2005 with +£118.91 the only time the £100 barrier has been broken and the lowest winning total was Maurice Edgington (me) at -£15.87 in April 2001 one of only three times the competition has been won with a negative total.

12nov11 just a brace

47 bets (OK 10 forced losers in that) but still only 2 winners Justin Sercombe popped in another short priced winner from Naas for 10 points and the only other winner was Rod Brown with a nice 15-2 shot to move him to +83p and in 9th place the last cash position.

Other wise all very quiet - we did have 8 naps all on Wishful Thinking which is what that turned out to be!

Friday, 11 November 2011

11nov11 busy but bad

One result to come - I'm going to London so can't wait - its a 25-1 shot in some crap race tonight at Wolverhampton for Billy Bray so that has loser nailed all over it :-)

Only 3 winners from 47 bets Vince Paige & Stuart Bentham both picked a 13-8 shot and the best of the day was by Mark Kelly at 13-2 to put him back to 7th but a lot closer to the pack in the 3rd through 7th spots where there is a decent spread of prize money.  Gap between Kevin Dighton and Mark Quinn in 2nd remains as it has been all week £4.11

Justin Sercombe missed out today but 2nd through 4th all got 5 points with a couple of +16 2nd places for Martin Long & Kevin Wood.

Update for Saturday will be done Sunday morning

Mackeson excitment

Open meeting kicks off in less than 2 hours and are we excited - well pretty much not really

Main thrill for me will be waiting for today's change by the BHRA (Behind Hopeless & Really Amateur) to the whip rules - what a shower

It will always be the Mackeson for me! - actually I'm going to by some today in honour of their sponsorship

As a special 4 winners today at Cheltenham will be!

1.45 Rileyev, 2.55 Steps to Freedom, 3.30 Shuil royale, 4.05 Grands Cru

10nov11 Frankie who?

Expect Vince Paige knows all about this - what utter crap!  The sad thing is 1 in 5 watch this show each week!

Quieter day just 5 winners from 44 bets, best was Michael Brook with a tasty 8-1 winner, his first for a long time so well off the leaders, then Gary Pascoe with a double and a 11-2 winner.  The others were Paul Evans, Roger Dore & Wayne Morton.  Roger now just 2p away from 9th and the first cash spot but he has had 10 more bets than Lee Constable just above him.

In the plate only Martin Long scored points with a 2 point 2nd but top 2 sat out.

09nov11 fix it for me

A very healthy 9 winners from 41 bets today with winners for Wayne Morton, Vince Paige, Stuart Bentham, Paul Evans, Kevin Wood, Justin Sercombe, Gary Pascoe, Gary Cawsey, and Alan Mabb who brought up a treble.  All pretty short priced so no major changes some important consolidation and a gradual reeling in of Kevin Dighton.

Top three in the plate all had the same 10 point winner Justin Sercombe, the leader, is now 108 points ahead of 5th place Alan Mabb - pretty securely in the money I would say

Tuesday, 8 November 2011

08nov11 grasshopper

8 winners from 42 bets today among them were a repeat set of winners as yesterday for the Alan Mabb Adam Slater duo and the best priced of the day was Dave Fifield at 11-2. That winner moved Alan Mabb into 3rd in the main comp on +£16.23 but £19.88 behind Kevin Dighton the leader.

In the plate another very quiet day with only Justin Sercombe and Kevin Wood having bet, almost goes without saying that Justin Sercombe's won for another 5 points to put him 28 points clear of Stuart Bentham on level bets.

Monday, 7 November 2011

07nov11 quiet day

Rubbish racing and a performance to match, just two winners, the same horse twice, from 39 bets.  Winners were Alan Mabb and Adam Slater at 7-2.  So only change was Alan Mabb moving above Vince Paige into 6th.  The inevitable slide back down the table into obscurity didn't take long to start for Vince did it after his 12-1 fluke yesterday!

Only one bet by the leaders in the plate today Justin Sercombe sneaked a single point for a 3rd place and sits far away in the distance for most of us on 174 points, 5th place Alan Mabb, who is on the bubble, is a massive 103 points behind and he is best placed - gulp

Found a link for some of the Breeders Cup coverage that I will leave up for a few days for anyone that is interested.

Where's those old photos please

06nov11 action

9 winners from 40 bets, best was Vince Paige with a 12-1 shot to lift him back into the money in 6th place on +£11.57.  Of more significance was the 8-1 winner from Mark Quinn this pulls him to with £2.11 of the leader Kevin Dighton. Kevin Hall also picked the same 8-1 winner, usual culprits popped over to Eire for a 10-11 winner (well all except Martin Long).

Pretty disappointed that Sea Moon didn't make it in the Breeders Cup finishing only 2nd, ended up with three 2nds from 5 bets over the two days.

05nov11 bang flash

Nothing - not a sausage from 41 bets today

What more can I say

Friday, 4 November 2011

next best in Breeders Cup

Look out for Plum Pretty in 11.30 (GMT) tonight I think 5-2 is a great price for her in the 3yo fillies dirt

04nov11 1 for 1 in Breeders

10 wins from 42 bets but five of them were the same 4-5 winner at Down Royal and just like yesterday the top four in the plate all picked it along with me!

All the others were pretty short as well apart from Gary Cawsey who sneaked in a 4-1 winner seems like going dormy has galvanized him a bit!

I got evens on the banker of the of the whole Breeders Cup meeting Secret Circle this morning and that has just popped in at 2-5!!

03nov11 symmetry

7 from 45 today but nothing spectacular for the main comp - very strange in the plate all of the top 4 picked the same horse running at Thurles in a big handicap there, it won at 1-2 so they all scored 10 points and left the rest of us even further behind!

Paul berg recorded a double but still sits well back at -£8.25 which is 24th=

Noticed a fair few very large odds as selections recently 100-1 and 80-1 please note that the limit of 33-1 maximum odds applies until bet number 40 i.e. with 21 to go (rule #25) so watch out.

Poker Bad Beat story

Hey Kevin

So in UKOPS 210 runner NLHE
<60 left I'm about 25th
I have JJ in the hole from UTG - standard raise x3
SB flat calls
Flop 3 rags unsuited - SB bets 4xBB
I put him all in he he calls with A6off
Turn he hits 6
River hits another 6
Not out but left with <10 BB so out effectively which was the case next hand!
Sky poker BS eh?

02nov11 Papandreou

Papandreou go go go - tell them to get stuffed what's the point of accepting a generation of poverty and only getting a 50% write off how much worse can it get what else can they do to you guys - just default and call their bluff.

Enough politics

Early update because playing in this Sky TV covered online tourney in 30 mins.  Good luck to those of the napscomp clan currently in USA for the Breeders Cup, Gary Pascoe at least, anyone else? Well that's a guess really but he is having a lot of forced losers.  Unlucky today Gary with your horse didn't feature.

A miserly 2 winners today from 37 bets so star billing for both Paul Berg with 13-2 winner and Roger 'purple patch' Dore who is now 5 from 6 and today brought up a 4 timer to go positive and 13th.  Amusingly relegating Vince Paige to 14th - well and truly lost his bragging rights now!

Martin Long picked up a 5 point 2nd in the plate to swap plates with Alan Mabb and move into 4th, the last cash spot.

01nov11 birthday boy

Hi - blog delayed my birthday yesterday and not delaying it just because Gary Dighton pick a runner in the last!!

Anyway 5 winners from 41 bets but some of significance.  Ben Callaghan 14-1 to go 3rd on +£21.50 and Mark Quinn with a 20-1 winner to go 2nd on +£30.00 and only £11.11 behind the leader, Kevin Dighton - i can imagine the worry as he sees the pack catching up!

Other winners were Stuart Bentham, Kevin Hall and Roger Dore who brought up a treble with a 7-2 winner and is now getting closer to even and into the fray.

Plate leaders Justin Sercombe 35 bets with 143 points and Stuart Bentham 136 points from 36 bets.

31oct11 spooky

8 winners from 46 bets highlights among those were 4th winner from 6 bets for Steve Walton to storm up into 9th place the last cash paying position on +£3.58.  Best price was Tom Feeney with a 9-2 winner but he is well off the pace down near me!

Stuart Bentham picked up a small winner to level the number bets up at the top of the plate but he still sits on only 115 points 28 points behind Justin Sercombe the leader.

Sunday, 30 October 2011

30oct11 one hour

5 winners from 34 bets, best or at least most significant was Justin Sercombe's 10 point winner to really turn the screw in the Plate.

Steve Walton, a founder member, has picked up three winners now in the past 5 bets and that means he has moved into positive +25p still only 14th but in the mix.  Special mention for Joanne Hutson whose 66-1 short was beaten into 2nd by a short head by another 66-1 shot!

Four more join the list of dormy players, Mark Dighton, Gary Pascoe, Barry James, and Trevor James

29oct11 two days

Sorry for delayed update been away on a course in Scunthorpe!

Friday 43 bets 5 winners and Saturday only 27 bets and just 2 winners.  The only one that really needs highlighting for the main comp is Lee Constable who hit an 12-1 winner not on the heels of an 11-1 winner a 2 or 3 bets ago to storm into the cash on  +£10.73 and 7th place.  A result that pushes Vince Paige out of the cash  :-).

In the plate Justin Sercombe drew a blank on Friday while Stuart Bentham sat out and they both rested Saturday, so changes at all!

Thursday, 27 October 2011

27oct11 Scunthorpe rules

8 winners from 44 bets again too many to mention all of them the best was Dave Fifield at 7-1 but the most impressive was the 100-30, 10 point winner for Justin Sercombe in an eighteen runner race in Eire that brought up a treble and took him 21 points clear of Stuart Bentham with a bet in hand.

The rot has well and truly set in for Stuart Bentham now with a second bet in 3 days that has missed the frame!

Wednesday, 26 October 2011

26oct11 biggie again

New to the major headlines we have Ben Callaghan with a 25-1 winner today.  which, of course, rockets him up the table into =5th place - well done yet another player zipping past me :-(

Overall 6 winners from a very busy 44 bets today other winners were Steve Walton 7-1, Kevin Hall, Howard Kelly, the two leaders in the plate both of whom shot over to Eire and collected 10 point winners.

The gap between these two leaders in the plate, Justin Sercombe (123 points), and Stuart Bentham (112 points) and the rest is now vast 5th placed Wayne Morton is only on 55 points and has had more bets than both of them - still will be interesting to watch these two battle it out for the rest of the comp.  I suppose Kevin Wood may have something to say about that he sits 3rd on 78 points but has 9 bets in hand but have they slipped the field?

25oct11 results delayed

Problem with detailed results at Catterick, they were unavailable so update delayed.  I know all the winners so nothing dramatic missing.  There were 43 bets and 5 winners Rod Brown who has now had 4 winners in the past 8 bets to draw level, Robert Baker 4-1, Justin Sercombe, Dave Fifield & Adam Slater.

Justin Sercombe's winner took him 11 points clear 1 bet in hand in the plate.

Massive drama with Stuart Bentham for the first time in his 32 bets so far his horse failed to finish in teh fiorst 4 and he lost his 100% record.

Paul Pritchard went dormy today

Monday, 24 October 2011

24oct11 winner for leader

Kevin Dighton strikes again - this time 14-1 to go to +£47.11 and a full £25+ clear of everyone, that has the look of a killer blow unless we can find some massive winners when the 33-1 restriction is lifted (last 21 bets - so quite a while yet).  But well done anyway this is turning out to be one of the definitive performances ever.

Overall 4 winners from 34 bets, the other 3 winners were Alan Mabb, John Collins & Jed Parramore.

Very few points gained by the leaders in the plate so no changes there.

Gary Cawsey went dormy today to join Mark Orlando, Barry Pemble, Dan Burgess & Alan spark as the five players with no spare bets left.  Paul Pritchard only has one spare left and Barry James and Mark Dighton only two.

23oct11 wow 6-1

Brilliant match too far away to see Sir Alex's face - what a shame.  The City fans were brilliant.  All my bets won as well!

Slow day in the comp only 24 bets and just two winners - 22 of the bets were at Aintree so a good job we didn't go there as the best we did was Tom Feeney's 4-1 shot the other one was Barry Pemble with a 2-1 winner. Both of those were well down the pack so no changes in the leaders.

23oct11 united v city

Off to the match tomorrow

City are 11-4 to win and as Steve O'Hare from Atlanta emailed me to say this has to be the best chance they have had for a generation to win at Old Trafford might be just that he is a devoted Liverpool fan and its really wishful thinking!  So taking Advantage of Bet365 offer of a free bet in running the same as any bet placed on the match before the start I have backed them at 11-4 and can hedge out for nil if they are losing or double up.

Might even correct score it at 1-3 my favorite score after backing Cheltenham to beat Crawley Town 3-1 at 28-1!  Those interested 1-3 is currently 25-1 with Bet365

22oct11 CTFC in 3rd

4 wins from 35 bets today, they were Lee Constable 11-1 to shoot up to +£0.73p and 11th, James Foley 5-2 and other two were Rod Brown and Vince Paige both with the same 9-4 winner.  That was not enough to move Vince Paige up from his 7th position he now sits on +£8.57.  The leader, Kevin Dighton, is +£34.11, £12.29 clear of Dave Kingsbury in 2nd and £13.48 ahead of Wayne Morton in 3rd.

The top 3 in the plate all picked the same 4-6 shot from Eire that got beaten into 2nd so they all had to settle for 5 points each.

Today saw us pass through the 200th winner but from 1320 bets that's a strike rate of only 15% less than one in six!

21oct11 paultry

Just 2 winners from 41 bets - what's going on! The winners were Kevin Wood 13-8 and 10 points and John Roach 8-13.  So all we saw was Kevin Wood leap over Martin Long (urghh!) into 3rd in the plate.

Top of the plate is as follows:

Justin Sercombe 102 from 28 bets
Stuart Bentham 95 (29)
Kevin Wood 72 (22)
Martin Long 63 (23)
and on the bubble is Wayne Morton 55 (31)

20oct11 big winner

Congratulations are due to Dave Kingsbury for a very nice 25-1 winner the rockets him up to 2nd place on +£22.82 just £13.29 behind our leader Kevin Dighton. 6 winners in total yesterday from 40 bets.

3 of the 4 leaders in the plate all picked the same horse that finished 2nd in a big race in Thurles so no changes at the top of the plate

Wednesday, 19 October 2011

19oct11 plate boys r back

41 bets today and just 4 winners usual culprits and all short prices so no action at the top of the main comp apart from Martin Long sneaking into the cash in 8th on +£4.01.

So we have the big 4 at the top of the plate and a new leader Justin Sercombe, 2nd Stuart Bentham, 3rd Martin Long, and 4th Kevin Wood - OK everyone else let's concentrate on the real money :-).

Well done for the two players who both spotted that I had missed losing bets (this can happen when people use other phones) and got me to correct them even though this was to their disadvantage - good sportsmanship thanks.

Two more gone dormy today Mark Orlando & Dan Burgess - at least they get a mention!!

18oct11 2 penalties!

Kevin Dighton strikes again - is this the same man we know and love? - I demand a DNA test

6 winners from 36 bets the best was Kevin Dighton's 8-1 winner to stretch his lead to back out to £15.48. He also becomes the first runner to be more up than remaining bets so he now is certain to finish positive pretty impressive this early. Adam Slater had a 7-2 winner Mark Nutting 2-1 the rest were small.

Again very quiet at the top of the plate so no changes there

Monday, 17 October 2011

17oct11 tipple

Just three winners Steve Walton, Rod Brown and the most important Wayne Morton who brings up a double with his 10th winner of the comp and moves into 2nd and now only £6.48 behind Kevin Dighton but he had had more bets than anyone else so is 7 ahead of Kevin Dighton - a case can be made for Wayne looking like the leader on that basis.

Wayne Morton now also site 4th and in the cash in the plate the only player at the top of that leader board to have a bet today.

16oct11 octopus

busy weekend so light on updates - sorry

Great day out at Ascot for the new big showpiece event - brilliant racing and got four winners from the 5 races we saw, of course the one loser was my nap!

Kevin Dighton had a quiet weekend so as those around him lost he has extended his lead a bit. Wayne Morton is probably the biggest mover over the last few days along with Martin Long who hit a treble on Sunday to go 3rd in the plate and 10th in the main comp (which is the bubble)

130ct11 best day

10 winners, the best of the comp so far, from 40 bets. Too many winners to mention them all so just the best one which was Maurice Edgington (me!), 9-1 OK a couple of others then, Dave Fifield got off the mark with a nice 8-1 winner (that's actually pretty early in the comp for a first winner for Dave!), Wayne Morton continued his good progress moving into 4th and Jimmy McGarrity, the defending champion, also went positive after picking up a 9-2 winner in Eire and moved into about 8th place now.

All quiet in the plate a smattering of points among the same old leaders

12oct11 correction

Billy Bray winner is no more!

Billy Bray sent in Mark Dighton's nap for him - I didn't notice and allocated it to him no great shakes as it was only a 4-5 shot.

Wednesday, 12 October 2011

12oct11 another biggie

3 people affected by the void race leaving 6 winners from 43 bets. The winners were Billy Bray, Dave Palmer, Kevin Wood, Pat Quinn Snr, and both Barry Pemble & Tom Feeney get off the mark. Billy brought up a quick fire double and Pat Quinn hit a 20-1 winner to get back in the hunt.

Again not much action at the top of the plate

VOID RACE RULING

3.25 at Wetherby was declared void today.

New circumstance for the comp so the decision is that all selections in that race will be entered as 'no bet'. Clearly some bookies used this opportunity for some favourable PR and refunded losing bets and paid out on the 'winner'. That probably has more to do with the fact that the price was only 7-2 and how much money they would likely have at risk on a poxy race at Wetherby in mid week.

I'll now go and check if that affects anyone

Tuesday, 11 October 2011

11oct11 better

What a strange day to be the busiest day so far with 44 bets and that's after a few non runners. Six winners in total and by far the best was Billy Bray with a fine 12-1 winner but that still didn't lift him positive but a good start. Also worthy of mention is Mark Kelly with 9-2 to lift him to 5th on +11.50, 4 bets more than 4th and only 57p behind.

None of the big players in the plate hit a winner so not much change there

Monday, 10 October 2011

10oct11 Tuilagi

4 winners from 30 bets today, 3 all picked the same 7-2 winner Paul Berg, Robert Baler and Shaun Johnson, the other was a little 5-4 winner for Wayne Morton. So no change at the business end of the main comp

With only Justin of the leading 4 runners in the plate playing today it was all pretty quiet there as well.

It's a rugby tour for God's sake, we need players not afraid to get out there, to take chances and become winners - Go Tui he was/is our best player

09oct10 Wales France :-(

Just 2 winners today from a pretty healthy 27 bets for a Sunday and rubbish winners for that 5-4 and 4-6 for Alan Mabb & Stuart Bentham respectively.

So after yesterday's big winner the top of the table is:

1st - Kevin Dighton +35.11 (from 17 bets)
2nd - Mark Quinn +24.00 (18)
3rd - Alan Mabb +18.48 (21)
4th - Vince Paige +13.07 (17)
5th - Wayne Morton +10.88 (21)

Stuart Bentham is 4 points clear of Justin Sercombe at the top of the plate having had one more bet

All details in excel that's on its way

08oct11 big winner

Quick update as I missed Saturday Mark Quinn bangs in a 25-1 winner of the Cesarewitch to move to + 24.00 and 2nd place - nice one only 3 other winners Kevin Wood, Paul Evans and Gary Cawsey.

More to come after Sunday update

07oct11 TFI Friday

Well if you guys are thinking I'm waiting for selections running though to 9.15 at Wolverhampton before updating - dream on, its a Friday night!

So with 3 bets to still run so far only 3 winners from the 31 bets. They are Vince Paige 7-2, George Casserley 7-2 and Pete Long 9-4. So that lifts Vince Paige to 3rd overall.

It's OK for you lot you don't have him ringing you to relive the nap every time he hits a winner - well maybe some sympathy for Kevin Dighton here think he gets the same :-)

Plate pretty quiet

Thursday, 6 October 2011

06oct11 wine please

Surprisingly good number of mainly moderately priced winners today given that Ayr was abandoned causing a few no bets, 8 in total from the remaining 30 bets. Best was Alan Mabb to surge clear of the group sitting in 2nd through 5th with his 11-2 winner. He is now only 17.88 behind and has had 3 more bets than leader Kevin Dighton. Who I understand is unhappy with the Eire racing rule and Vince Paige unhappy with the points system in the plate - no pleasing some eh! Either of them can swap with me any day and I expect Stuart Bentham the leader of the plate would say the same :-). Other winners were all 11-4 or worse Kevin Hall got off the mark with one of the 2 11-4 winners Steve Walton recorded the other.

In the plate Stuart failed to get a winner only recording a 1 point 2nd but as Justin Sercombe sat out he retained the yellow jersey.

Cup was couriered to Jimmy McGarrity this week expecting to see a photo of it in prime position in his office for publication any day soon

Wednesday, 5 October 2011

05sep11 Go Dave

30 bets 7 winners , nothing massive so no real movers. In the plate all three of the big players picked the same 10 point winner at Navan. So 1st place Stuart Bentham & 2nd place Justin Sercombe moved to 68 & 63 respectively and Martin Long, a long time plate player, moved up to joint 3rd with Alan Mabb both on 36.

Tuesday, 4 October 2011

04oct11 and again

31 bets and a very poor 3 winners, who were Vince Paige, Billy Bray and Justin Sercombe.

Vince Paige and Justin Sercombe both scored a 10 point winner so that moves Justin to with 3 points of the leader in the plate.

So the England to win by 6-10 points bet is on at 9-2. Also a Saturday special for the three games I will be watching Wales to beat Ireland, England to beat France, and Cheltenham to beat Dagenham & Redbridge (football) odds for the treble are 6.76-1 that bet is also on

Monday, 3 October 2011

03oct11 meeserly

27 bets just 3 winners 2@ 7-4 and one 5-6 so not much action in either leader board. Winners were James Foley & Wayne Morton (who brought up a treble) and Billy Bray got off the mark with the odds on shot.

Anyway who cares what the Rugby lads get up to just keep winning!

Sunday, 2 October 2011

02oct11 too sunny

smallest day of the comp only 16 bets but a good strike rate of 25%. The 4 winners were Alan Mabb, Gary Pascoe, John Roach & Ian Walters, the last two getting off the mark. So Alan Mabb got a little bit closer to the leader as he moved back into 2nd place only 23.38 behind Kevin Dighton.

No change on the plate Alan Mabb's winner was only a 3 pointer so he remains 3rd there.

Excel on its way

01oct11 leader wins

Yes Kevin has done it again 17-2 to go substantially clear of the field on +£37.11 that's £24 clear so looks like we could be playing for the second prize now :-(

Still he could have a run of 46 losers for his remaining bets which wouldn't exactly be out of character

Other winners were Bert Peart, Martin Long, Ken Jones & Justin Sercombe, don't panic Stuart Bentham didn't miss out he had a rest day

That moves Justin Sercombe into a clear 2nd place after his second 10 point winner in 2 days, now 12 points behind Stuart Bentham.

Saturday, 1 October 2011

30sep11 France next

33 bets and just 3 winners Wayne Morton brings up his treble with the best of the day 3-1 and the same old culprits Justin Sercombe and Stuart Bentham both picked the same 7-4 and 10 point winner in Eire.

So not much change in the main comp Wayne Morton edges into 3rd above Alan Mabb but in the plate Stuart Bentham moves on to 55 points 22 points clear of the 2 guys in joint 2nd Alan Mabb & Justin Sercombe. Alan Mabb retains 2nd by virtue of one more winner

Go England Go - bring on France Hey we could win this thing :-)

Bet went down start again with the France game

Friday, 30 September 2011

29sep11 one more

Improved again 8 winners from 33 bets today. Best was Tom Collins with a 9-1 winner to lift him into the cash +5.17 and 7th place. Wayne Morton consolidated in 5th with a 4-1 winner and a double.

Plate the leaders, Stuart Bentham and Alan Mabb both had 3 point winners so unchanged at the top.

England to win by 16-20 points 11-2, France to lose in QF is 4-5, Wales to lose in SF is 16-5 and England v NZ final is 3-1 that is 195.5 -1 Of course you can't actually place that bet because the results are linked. So first bet has just been placed at 11-2 for £60 I will have to do the bet as we go so if this wins it is £390 to win on England to beat France by 6-10 points expect that to be about the same price

Wednesday, 28 September 2011

28sep11 much better

Well that's a bit more like it 7 winners from 30 bets with John Collins 7-1 and Wayne Morton 9-1 and the others were mostly 2-1 & 7-2 so as a bunch we actually made a profit today!

Mark Kelly closed the gap a little in 2nd on Kevin Dighton, the leader, and is now just 14.61 behind, Wayne Morton moved into the money on +5.88 and 6th place, John Collins moves to +2.00 and 12th.

Not much change in the plate Stuart Bentham remains 13 points clear of Alan Mabb with Howard Kelly now a clear 3rd on 28 points after recording his 3 winner in 4 days , he is 1 behind Alan Mabb.

27sep11 Tevez!

What a spoilt child

Back to the big league - 34 bets 5 winners all the usual culprits and all short priced so no real changes in main comp

Stuart extends his lead to 42 points 13 clear of 2nd still has 100% record for selections finishing in the first 4

England 31 Scotland 13, then England 19 France 10, then England 28 Wales 21, then all to NZ for the final - what price the above?

26sep11 urrgh!

All quiet 2 winners from 25 bets Justin Sercombe 9-4 and Robert Baker 11-4

Sunday, 25 September 2011

25sep11 slow

Only 21 bets today with 5 winners Kevin Dighton scored again with a 15-8 winner, other winners were Pat Quinn Snr, James Foley, Dave Palmer & Howard Kelly. So Kevin Dighton's lead stretches to 17.61

In the plate there was no change at the top

Excel will be sent later - if you can't open it and need an old 2007 excel version email Vince Paige he is also miles behind on the technology front as well!

24sep11 oh no!

What odds would I have got that Kevin Dighton & Vince Paige would be leading the comp by Saturday night - but that's what has happened Vince Paige with a 20-1 winner and Kevin Dighton got the winner of the Cambridgeshire at 40-1. Unfortunately for him the maximum odds rule applies so he only gets 33-1 - well I say only!! Other winners were Dave Kingsbury 5-1, and James Foley 9-4.

So obviously big changes at the top Kevin Dighton leads on +29.73 with Vince Paige and Mark Kelly in joint 2nd +14.00, with Alan Mabb just 59p behind them on +13.41.

In the plate Stuart Bentham leads on 32, Alan Mabb 2nd 29, and Dave Kingsbury 3rd on 19.

Use comments function and let us have the story of the bets guys

Saturday, 24 September 2011

23sep11 double

Thursday and Friday update:

Thursday 4 winners from 38 bets
Friday 9 winners from 36 bets

No massive odds best was 11-2 for Michael Brook to push him up to only 50p down. Maurice Edgington (me) was the only person to have two winners and that pushes me to 11th rather annoyingly still one place behind Peter Long (or is that Pete/Vince combo - what an unpleasant thought, sorry Pete). Mark Kelly retains the main comp yellow jersey but only 59p ahead of Alan Mabb in 2nd, Jed Parramore is 3rd 5.00 behind the leader.

In the plate Stuart Bentham has nudged into 1st place on 30 points, he is now 5 winners from 9 selections Alan Mabb is 2nd on 29.

21sep11 England

6 winners from 38 bets, Alan Mabb keeps up his good start with another winner, his 3rd, 7-2 and moves into 3rd in the main comp just 5.59 behind Mark Kelly. Jed Parramore sits 2nd between them.

So of course Alan Mabb also remains top of the plate on 24 points 5 clear of Stuart but he has had 2 more bets.

Well I was shocked, team of Rugby lads going out and having a drink - who either gives a shit or didn't think they were doing that anyway, just smash through Scotland and we will be happy even if they are playing pissed.

PRIZES CONFIRMED

Busier day biggest so far with 42 bets and 6 winners Mark Kelly scored another pretty useful 9-1 winner to go to +17.00 5.00 clear of Jed Parramore in 2nd. Other winners were Paul Evans, Stuart Bentham, Mark Dighton with his first bet, Justin Sercombe & Dave Kingsbury.

Alan Mabb maintained his lead in the plate with a 2 point 2nd.

Everyone has bet see next blog for prize structure

19sep11 not much faster

5 winners from 31 bets today - again nothing special, George Casserley picked his 3rd winner at 9-2 to go 6th in the main comp and 2nd in the plate

Big change of tack from Kevin Dighton, our sponsor, he selected a 2-5 winner today the shortest ever I think for him!

Still waiting for Barry Pemble (new boy) Mark Dighton and Steve Walton to have their first bets although as both Steve and Mark have already paid so they are certain (no refunds) so we all don't care if they are not betting.

Someone give Barry Pemble a reminder as we are 9 days in now

Sunday, 18 September 2011

18sep11 slow

Slow Sunday as usual 20 bets and just one 5-2 winner for Paul Pritchard.

Alan Mabb went clear in the plate with a 2 point 2nd

excel will be issued by Vince later

Saturday, 17 September 2011

17sep11 all the 2s

2 winners today and 2 new leaders

Winners both very nice from 31 bets today were Alan Mabb 12-1 to go 4th and Jed Parramore 14-1 to go top by 2.00, from Mark Quinn 2nd and Mark Kelly 3rd.

Alan by virtue of his 10 point winner takes over from Kevin Wood who failed to pick up a point, they are both on 15.

5 left to start

Friday, 16 September 2011

16sep11 steady

6 winners from 29 bets - nothing to write home about today Stuart Bentham moved into 2nd in the plate after he picked up his 3rd winner from 4 bets. No change in the leaders both had losers

Ayr Gold Cup Saturday - pick the winner of that for a double whammy mega cash collect and leader here - good luck

Down to just 6 runners left to play so will be able to announce prizes soon - got to wait for Steve Walton to get back from yet another foreign holiday :-)

Thursday, 15 September 2011

15sep11 Marks

29 bets 3 winners with Mark Kelly grabbing a 14-1 winner to join Mark Quinn as joint leader both on +12.00. Paul Berg sits 3rd on +5.00 after his 6-1 winner yesterday

Early days in the plate clearly as I'm still 4th but Stuart Bentham leaps into 2nd with his 2nd winner today on 10 points behind Kevin Wood still on 15

10 players still to have their first bet

Tuesday, 13 September 2011

13sep11 slow

Still 23 from the 58 players to have their first bet - when we know everyone has then we will confirm prizes

4 winners yesterday and 6 today nothing startling best today was 5-1 for Dave Palmer

Plate sees Kevin Wood still on 10 from 1 bet with Maurice Edgington (me) 2nd on 6 points from 3 bets - this might be my only time near the lead so have to give myself a mention :-)

Let's GO GO GO lads

12sep11 early leader

Hi

Sorry very stuttering start on this - Admin secretary been crap on phone numbers etc. so haven't been able to update!

All I can say is that Mark Quinn started Sunday with a very nice 14-1 winner to bolt out of the starting gate while most of us were still trying to remember how to text!

Kevin Wood g0t straight back in the saddle in the Plate picking a 10 point winner.

Vince went straight to the bottom on alphabetical order :-)

09sep11 - WE ARE BACK

The heat is on!

New comp starts Sunday, Kevin Dighton had a winner this week (nice collect Kev) so he now thinks he is favourite for this comp :-)

Take a look at his recent results - enough said

May the best man/lady win as long as its not Pete or Vince

NEW OPEN BET!

oops he missed the cut!

So new 70-1 bet before 3rd round starts that's Ricky Fowler sitting at level and playing with Rory
(7-2 to finish in the top 10 so had that as a saver)

Thursday, 14 July 2011

GOLF - OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

80-1 Ross Fisher (1/4 the first 6) looked like a good bet before this kicked off so I ventured a small each way bet

He carded a 71 which is +1 today, so as they always say you can't win it on the first day but you can lose it - and he didn't!

Remember I was the guy who backed Stuart Cink at 70-1 in 2009!!

Sunday, 10 July 2011

POKER RESULT

Collect was GBP 520.00 - so not bad

Had to go all in in the last 5 minutes of play on Saturday night as I wasn't going to come back home and back to London for the final play down when sitting as small stack and with only 7BB!

2 Ken Jones +23.17
3 Jed Parramore +18.59
4 Trevor James +13.00
5 Pete Long +11.50
6 Pat Quinn Jnr +8.86

Plate

1 Justin Sercombe 211
2 Martin Long 202
3 Kevin Wood 185

Special mention for Justin who had the only winner on the last day and starts the next comp going for a 10 timer.

Probably going to hold out until September for the next comp unless there is an tsunami of objections!

Have a brilliant Summer everyone - happy betting/holidays/BBQs

Friday, 3 June 2011

03jun11 I don't believe it

Pete Long has had another winner 7-1!! it really is like he knows what he is doing :-)

5 winners from 39 bets including Pete's above that took him back into the cash in 5th other winners were 7-1 for Tim Catlin and Trevor James 8-1 that also moved him back into the cash in 4th. Kevin Hall recorded a 11-8 winner and in the plate Justin Sercombe brought up his 8 timer and moved into 1st place 4 points ahead of Martin Long with just tomorrow to go.

Fantastic performance by Justin to catch Martin - exciting last day to come.

02jun11 blank, zero

No winners from 41 bets including 13 forced losers. Best result was me, Maurice Edgington, and this is the first time i have got to report on me all comp with an unlucky 50-1 2nd.

Only other result of significance was Martin Long used up his bet in hand and scored 1 point to go back to the top on 202 points to Justin Sercombe's 201 level bets.

2 days to go Jimmy McGarrity remains 7.62 ahead of Ken Jones in 2nd, Jed Parramore 3rd 12.20 behind the leader, Pat Quinn Jnr 4th 22.93 behind the leader, Pat Quinn Snr 5th 24.06 behind leader and Martin Long 6th 26.53 behind leader.

7th is Trevor James 26p behind 6th 8th Pete Long 50p behind 7th & 9th Wayne Morton 1.02 behind 8th.

Excel is being sent

Thursday, 2 June 2011

01jun11 Barcalona

5 winners from 36 bets winners were Jed Parramore, Justin Sercombe (7 timer), Kevin Hall, Kevin Wood, & Vernon Tremble. Jed's 9-1 winner was the only decent price and pretty much secured his 3rd place moving him 10.00 clear of 4th. None of the other winners were of any significance price wise.

Continued high drama in the plate Kevin Wood & Justin Sercombe both picked the same Tipperary winner to gain 10 points but Martin Long could only manage a 5 point 2nd and so relinquished the lead for the first time in ages but only on count back of of number of winners. Martin still has one bet in hand.

Wednesday, 1 June 2011

31may11 solo

Just one winner from 37 bets, Justin Sercombe completed a very impressive 6 consecutive winners in a row. That moved him to just 5 points behind Martin Long in the plate but Martin has one more bet remaining.

Obviously no major change in the leaderboard

Tuesday, 31 May 2011

30may11 Ibiza

39 bets 5 winners Jimmy McGarrity had a consolidating winner at 8-15 to nudge a little further clear now 6.62 ahead. Trevor James picked the best of the day (dead heat) at 10-1 and lifting him into the last cash position 6th. The three big guns in the plate all pick the same 6-5 winner in the evening meeting at Ballinrobe! for 10 points each.

These continual winners are starting to impact on the main comp as well Martin Long moved into the cash in 5th and i expect that will be particularly sweet as it means Pete Long moves back out of the cash - nothing like sibling rivalry. Pete is now 76p behind him they are both dormy.

Monday, 30 May 2011

28may11 new leader

Problem on login to this site now sorted so late report on Saturday's change of leader.

39 bets 7 winners Ken Jones kept up the pressure on the field in top place with a 2-1 winner but Jimmy McGarrity trumped that with a 8-1 winner to go 4.09 ahead on +34.26 also having had 2 more bets than Ken. Pat Quinn Jnr had a 6-1 winner to take over in 5th place from Pat Quinn Snr, Wayne Morton kept up his late run with a 9-4 winner to sit in 7th and only 25p behind 6th the first cash place. Other winners were Tim Catlin, Lee Constable and Pete Long his 17-2 winner enough to lift him back into the cash in 4th place

Very tight at the top of the plate Martin Long 179 from 54 bets, Justin Sercombe 176 points from 56.

Tuesday, 24 May 2011

23may11 dandylion

37 bets 8 winners all the usual plate boys had winners Martin Long, Justin Sercombe, Stuart Bentham, Kevin Wood, - so no change at all at the top as they were all 5 point winners!

In the main comp the leader Ken Jones slotted home a nice consolidating 5-2 winner to move back to +30.17 and 3.91 ahead of Jimmy McGarrity who sat out. Wayne Morton has had 2 winners in the past 3 days and has now moved into the cash in 5th. Jed Parramore and Vernon Tremble were the other winners.

Martin Long has now moved 8.91 ahead of Vince Paige in their side bet for who finishes higher looking grim for Vince.

Couple more gone dormy Barry James today and Danny Beaman yesterday

Monday, 23 May 2011

22may11 Rod's didn't win

Sunday saw 37 bets and 6 winners - the most significant was Jimmy McGarrity who popped in a 3-1 winner and Ken Jones missed out and so Jimmy pulled to within 1.41 of the lead, exciting stuff.

Martin Long pulled out another great winner over in Eire finding a 4-7 winner of a 18 runner race to secure 10 points and become almost certain to win the plate - well a few too many bets to really say that with 10 points on offer.

Kevin Dighton hit another winner to complete a double over the weekend - don't get to write that very often!

Crap bet of the day was me managed to pick the horse that finished 30th out of 30 at the Curragh - I think that just about sums up my efforts in this comp

Saturday, 21 May 2011

21may11 one to go

Still waiting for Rod Brown's late runner so excluding that we have 6 winners from 39 bets. Better mention Kevin Dighton, our esteemed sponsor, as he had a 20-1 winner today obviously even with that miles away from troubling the leaders! at least he backed it and picked up a monkey.

Other winners included Martin Long to extend his lead to 9 points in the plate. But in the main comp Jimmy McGarrity collected a small 2-1 winner to catch up 3.00 on the leader he now sits just 5.41 behind and Ken Jones has 2 more bets to have - all to play for boys.

20may11 potato

40 bets and just 2 winners Stuart Bentham & Martin Long both with the same 11-8 winner. So no action at all on the main leader board. Well apart from Martin is now 2.48 ahead of Vince Paige in their 'who finishes higher' side bet.

Martin Long moved 1 point further ahead to +9 with his 3 point winner to Justin Sercombe's 2 point 2nd

Friday, 20 May 2011

19may11 fluke again

yes we are talking Pete Long again - another horse vaguely associated with a name in the Long family won at 12-1 so he is back in the cash 5th on +10.00. Only 2 other winner Kevin Wood 2-13! and Paul Berg 11-2 so that moves Paul back into striking range on +8.45 in the cash and in 6th.

Leader has a 7.41 lead and sits on +29.67

Plate still an 8 point gap at the top but Kevin Wood appears to be chasing them down a bit with a last minute surge and is only 9 behind Justin Sercombe and with a bet in hand

Thursday, 19 May 2011

18may11 leader

Main news from the last two days is the double from Ken Jones, the leader who has now gone 8.41 clear of Jimmy McGarrity in 2nd. Other notable mover is Danny Beaman who has gone into 3rd on +17.38 just 13.29 behind the leader

Plate sees Justin Sercombe trim Martin Long's lead to just 8 points but Martin has 4 bets in hand

Monday, 16 May 2011

15may11 you lookin at me

Sorry for the missing days - excel has been sent so that should bring you all up to date some highlights have been Adam slater 14-1 to lift him into the top half and nearly even but the star at the weekend was Jimmy McGarrity with a 9-2 winner followed up with a 14-1 winner Sunday to leap to +24.26 only 2.16 behind the leader and he has had 3 more bets so probably leads.

In the plate the leaders have been finding some impressive winners in Eire at short prices but in big fields and that is certainly a tactic paying off for Kevin Wood who has surged to 118 points and back in 3rd place 14 points clear of Stuart Bentham in 4th despite having had 13 fewer winners only 8 to Stuart's 21!!

Thursday, 12 May 2011

11may11 busy

Sorry pretty busy here in 92 degree Atlanta so will do 11th & 12th as a single update tonight

10may11 nice one

10 winners today from 40 bets most impressive were Roger Dore and Alan Mabb who both picked the same 12-1 winner Roger was pretty near the bottom but Alan now leaps to +6.75 in 7th just one place out of the cash. Pat Quinn Snr also picked up a nice 7-1 winner to go 2nd on +13.73 and 14.02 behind Ken Jones.

In the plate both Martin Long and Justin Sercombe had 5 point winners to remain 12 points apart in 1st & 2nd respectively.

Still waiting for the wording for the proposed rule clarification from Vince Paige & Steve Walton

Tuesday, 10 May 2011

09may11 book'em

35 bets and 6 winners and some nice movers on the leader board today. Danny Beaman with a 14-1 winner shoots in 2nd on +12.38 but still 16.37 behind our leader Ken Jones who also had a 6-4 winner. Other winners were Alan Mabb 6-4, Stuart Bentham 4-6, Rod Brown 7-2, and John Hannigan 6-1.

No change at the top of the plate Martin Long remains on top 12 points clear 2 bets in hand.

Rule clarification relating to people selecting horses for other players, there may have been some issues here give us a day or two

Monday, 9 May 2011

08may11 its late

7 winners from 37 bets - nothing brilliant and no real changes at the top of either leader board.

Excel has been sent

Sunday, 8 May 2011

07may11 LHR

Just 3 winners from 41 bets on a tricky Saturday with loads of us napping in the 28 runner handicap!!

Winners were Wayne Morton 8-11, Jed Parramore 8-11, and Bert Peart with a very lucky 9-2 winner. My horse came alongside in the straight at Ascot looking sure to win, jockey was driving with whip in right hand and horse veered violently to the left blowing it's chance and handing the race to Bert - cost me a GBP550 collect :-(

Not much action in plate Kevin Wood in 3rd is now only 8 points behind Justin on level bets.

someone find Martin Broderick and get him to have a bet - can't have someone with zero points

Come on wolves 2-0 up as I write - lets see Chelsea do that as well for a great day

Saturday, 7 May 2011

06may11 leader wins again

41 bets 6 winners and that brings up the 300th winner of the comp. Ken Jones improved his lead with a nice 9-2 winner to go 16.30 clear. Other winners were Pat Quinn Snr. Stuart Bentham with a three timer, Kevin Hall, Jimmy McGarrity, Gary Pascoe.

Th big mover in the plate is Jimmy McGarrity who is now sitting 6th although had a few more bets than those above him. Martin Long is 17 points clear and with 3 bets in hand.

Joanne Hutson went dormy today

Thursday, 5 May 2011

05may11 ineffective

43 bets today and only 3 winners Pat Quinn Snr 12-1, & Jnr 8-11, and Kevin Hall 5-1, so the 12-1 winner basically took Pat to around level.

Just a single point for Martin long to nudge into a 18 point lead after Justin missed for teh 3rd day in a row

Royal Wedding Tribute

04may11 big one

46 bets today but a pretty low win count only 7 and none of real note. Ken Jones remains in the lead by 10.80 from Paul Berg 2nd, Barry James is 13.00 behind the leader in 3rd, Pete Long after his 5-1 winner rises to 4th 13.75 behind the leader. Trevor James 5th and Vince Paige 6th.

Probably need to mention lucky winner of the whole comp on 03may11 for Pete Long - Outlaw Pete running in 5th/6th behind, the leader slips up and the next 3 all run out :-) and his nap goes on to win!

Justin Sercombe failed to score with his two bets in the past two days so Martin Long's one bet one winner pushes him 17 clear with 2 bets in hand - will anyone ever catch him now?

Someone please stop Ferguson it will be too much to bear

DORMY UPDATE

Following 12 players are all now dormy:

Pete Feeney, Martin Broderick, Ian Carpenter, Roger Dore, Mark Dighton, Joanne O'Brien, Mark Nutting, Lee Constable, Mark Orlando, Adam Slater, Gary Pascoe, Peter Long.

The list is in reverse order from the leader board - i.e. Pete Long is best placed

02may11 SEAL it!

37 bets today and 5 winners biggest was Tom Feeney at 14-1 but as he was pretty nearly bottom he remains -8.25 even after that. Perhaps the most significant was Ken Jones' winner at 5-2 that just sees him ease back out to an approximate 10.00 lead again, nice tactic. Other winners were Vince Paige, Daniel Beaman and a newly focused Adam Slater who since going dormy a week ago has picked 3 from 7.

Plate saw Martin Long fail to score so the 5 point 2nd that Justin Sercombe picked pulled him back to 12 points behind and brought up his century.

01may11 LOL

So in the 1000g we had between us 17 naps and this is what we managed to achieve from an 18 runner field:-

5th - 1
6th - 3
7th - 1
15th - 3
16th - 1
17th - 1
18th - 7

Pathetic and enough said on a day with no winners

Saturday, 30 April 2011

30apr11 ice Berg

Paul Berg bangs in a 18-1 winner to storm into 2nd and only 6.30 behind our leader Ken Jones. Overall only 3 winners from 38 bets other two were Pat Quinn Snr 13-2 and Barry James 9-2.

Biggest surprise was not one single nap for Frankel - what a performance

28apr11 wedding's over

mid ceremony and the sermon was boring so here we are!

Yesterday loads of winners 12 from 35 bets nothing super stunning price wise but a good team performance. Leader is still Ken Jones but drifting back a bit to the pack only 13.00 clear of Barry James in 2nd and Trevor James in 3rd.

In the plate Martin Long now 18 points clear on level bets with the 2nd &3rd place guys Justin Sercombe 93 points and Kevin Wood 73 points.

Back to the wedding - just got Adam Slater, Tim Catlin & Rod Brown's naps for today glad to see there are some of us getting our priorities right :-)

26apr11 Chesney

Wayne Morton got the one and only winner today at 11-2, from a total of 31 bets. That pushes him up to +6.09 just over 2.00 behind Barry James in 6th, the first cash place.

In the plate 3 of the leading players spookily all picked the same 5 point 2nd from Fairyhouse so not much change their either

25apr11 we're safe

Cheltenham Town FC of course after an away win today.

Excel sent 34 bets 4 winners many attempts at the Irish National best we did was 3rd! Winners were Danny Beaman, Martin Long, Pat Quinn Snr & Stuart Bentham, 4-1, 4-6, 11-10, & 4-11 respectively, so no great movement on the boards. Clearly Martin Long consolidated top spot in the plate moving to 99 points and 13 clear of Justin Sercombe still with a bet in hand.

24apr11 eggs

28 bets and 4 winners Vince Paige & Martin Long both with 11-10 winners in Eire and Mark Dighton 5-2 and the best winner of the day went to James Foley at 5-1.

In the plate Martin Long's winner was a 10 pointer and so he surged clear and sits on a very impressive 96 points from just 26 bets

23apr11 happy easter

Friday 6 forced losers!

Saturday - 37 bets and 7 winners the highlights were Gary Pascoe 15-2, Ian Walters 12-1, Paul Berg 11-1. Despite those winners all three remain worse than even so leaders pretty much untroubled. Ken Jones hasn't had much of a mention recently, he remains clear on +28.25 with Trevor James 2nd +14.00, Rod Brown 3rd +12.58 and Pete Long 4th on +12.00. Although Pete has had far fewer bets than those above him because Vince has been on holiday and he has not had a bet for the past 7 days.

Plate see Martin Long and Justin Sercombe in joint first on 86 points each although Martin has 3 bets in hand.

20apr11 Will

sorry too busy to update will do a double day on Friday morning

19apr11 and

slow day just two winners, Gary Dighton and Mark Dighton so no real changes on the boards as they were 13-8 & 4-1 respectively.

18apr11 Kate

Ordinary day with 6 winners from 27 bets but including some very nice winers. Best was Vernon Tremble with 12-1 closely followed by John Hannigan with a nice 10-1 winner & Barry James with a 7-1 winner. Other winners were Gary Pascoe, Joanne O'Brien, Justin Sercombe.

That puts Vernon positive but still sitting just outside the top 10.

Saturday, 16 April 2011

16apr11 Balotelli

Just 3 from 28 today as most tried to pick the winer of the two big handicaps today Spring Cup & S Grand National, but with only one success and that was Rod Brown who had the 14-1 winner of the national to rocket him up to 3rd in the main comp and the plate. Other winners were Ken Jones, the leader, consolidating with a 5-4 winner and Mark Kelly creeping closer to the cash with a 5-4 shot.

15apr11 Man C 2 Man U 0

Friday saw 34 bets and 6 winners the best, by far, of which was Pete Long with an impressive 11-1 shot. It starting to look like last times winner wasn't as we all thought a complete and utter fluke as he sits a handy 3rd in this one! Other winners were Vince Paige, Steve Walton (don't say that much and he zooms up to 46th spot), Paul Berg, Kevin Hall & Tom Feeney.

Not much movement at the top of the plate with Justin Sercombe 5 points clear now on level bets with Martin Long in 2nd.

Thursday, 14 April 2011

14apr11 toothpick

Ordinary day 5 winners from 35 bets. Winners were Mark Orlando, Mark Quinn, Rod Brown, Pat Quinn Jr and Dave Fifield nothing spectacular price wise so leaders unaffected. Plate remained unaltered.

Wednesday, 13 April 2011

13apr11 Brill

34 bets and a stunning 14 winners nothing massive but loads of 4-1, 3-1, & 7-2 Tim Catlin a winner just two comps ago finally got off the mark today relegating another previous winner and stalwart of the naps comp into last place - no not me, Steve Walton :-)

Plate lead swapped over again Justin Sercombe pops into a 4 point lead on 75 from Martin Long on 71. Martin Broderick had his first forced loser today and still has to get his first point in the plate! - could be worse Steve!

Lee where's the photo, look we can cover over Kevin Dighton and Pete Long.

Go Man City go

Tuesday, 12 April 2011

12apr11 Go Chelsea

Still 0-0 as I write but I'm looking for a sweet 0-2 both scored by Malouda!

28 bets 6 winners they were, Barry James 6-1 to go +4.00 and into 7th just 1.93 from the cash, Lee Constable 6-1 to go positive for the first time this comp, Dave Kingsbury 9-1 to leap above Vince Paige into 5th +6.21, Mark Kelly 15-8 to also leap above Vince Paige into 4th on +6.88, Tom Feeney 2-1 but he is well off the pace, and finally, of course, Martin Long 4-6 to go back to the top of the plate by one point.

As expected Martin Broderick went dormy today and will be on forced losers from now on if he missed a day.

Monday, 11 April 2011

11apr11 Boo Hoo

30 bets and an impressive 9 winners at some decent prices 6-1 winners for Peter Long, Danny Beaman, James Foley, Pat Quinn Jr, with Niel Allen 4-1 and Trevor James with a best of the day 8-1. The usual culprits in the plate all had odds on winners as well.

So that takes Trevor James back into 2nd and trims Ken Jones' lead to "just" 20.00 with Pete Long joining Mark Kelly in joint 6th the last place in the cash.

FYI if any position finishes level in the cash there is a new rule, from now on the number of winners is used as a tie break otherwise cash is shared - do we do not count 2nd, 3rd places etc.

Plate remains action packed with all the leaders trading winners and pulling away from the rest of us

Sunday, 10 April 2011

10apr11 slow

Only a measly 17 bets today must be the sunshine. Just 3 winners and all odds on.

Excel just been sent Ken Jones still has a very healthy lead of 22.77 from Jed Parramore with Vince Paige in 3rd 4.05 behind Jed. The biggest mover of the week was Gary Cawsey who is just 4th after his national winner just 10p behind Vince.

All change again in the plate as Kevin Wood shoots off to Leopardstown to find a big runner race and then misses out, allowing Martin Long & Justin Sercombe to shoot past him with Justin taking over by virtue of his 5 pointer to Martin's 3.

First dormy warning of the comp now upon us - Martin Broderick only had 8 bets so far and just has 2 days spare.

Saturday, 9 April 2011

09apr11 National Day

Well done Gary Cawsey & Alan Mabb for picking the National winner at 14-1 hope you both backed it. There were three other winners on Saturday to give a total of 5 from the rather low 27 bets for such an important day in the racing calendar.

Exciting at the top of the plate with a new leader Kevin Wood with 61 points and Martin Long & Justin Sercombe just 1 point behind on 60. Kevin Wood's policy of picking naps in 16+ runners really paying off he has had 13 point scoring bets with 10 of them in 16+ races hence the reason he is top with only 4 winners and Stuart Bentham with 11 and Jed Parramore on 10 winners are both not in the cash!

Signing off from a very hot Atlanta 89!!

Thursday, 7 April 2011

07apr11 Aintree day 1

37 bets and 8 winners best was Danny Beaman who got of the mark with the 16-1 winner of the last - good pick in a very tough race 5 selections all picked Baby Run that won at 3-1 and a nice 10 points for the plate. Notwithstanding that Martin Long held on to the lead

Wednesday, 6 April 2011

05apr11 furniture

6 winners from 28 bets best were Mark Kelly & Mark Quinn who both had 9-1 winners and Rod Brown with a nice 5-1 winner. That was a treble for Mark Quinn to take him to just -1.00 in 16th and the double for Mark Kelly propels him to 3rd +8.00.

Martin Long hangs on to the lead in the plate but they are closing in

Monday, 4 April 2011

04apr11 brilliant

25 bets and 10 winners the first double digit score of the comp and plenty of 8-1, 6-1, 4-1 etc. winner - too many to list here.

Didn't affect the leader boards that much Martin Long had a winner so stays top. Ken Jones had a loser but 2nd placed Trevor James sat out and gained 1.00 but still sits 23.00 behind.

Looks like the box at Worcester is off through lack of an organizer unless anyone wants to step up - form an orderly queue :-) and speak to Vince.

Any of the Cheltenham based gang interested in filling a car- girls, booze and gambling all provided only need to stop at a KFC to fulfill all our needs :-)

Anyone know any girls?

03apr11 weekend

Sorry travelling over the weekend excel has been sent

Saturday and Sunday were a very sad set of results! 28 bets Saturday mostly at Donny and not a single winner between us and in total only 2 Niel Allen 2-1, and Justin Sercombe 4-6.

Sunday there was a bit of an improvement with 5 winners from 19 the best was horseradish at 5-1 that both Pat Quinn Snr and Rod Brown picked.

Plate Martin Long leading on 50 points from Kevin Wood on 47 and three all sitting 3rd on 42, Stuart Bentham, Jed Parramore, & Trevor James.

Friday, 1 April 2011

01apr11 fool

31 bets 5 winners with one bet to go - can't muck about waiting for the poxy 7.40 at Wolverhampton got better things to do on a Friday night. Trevor James popped in a very nice 6-1 winner (beat mine) to race back into 2nd 23.00 behind Ken Jones now on +35.00 after another looser today.

Very exciting at the top of the plate Martin Long just hanging on to 1st on 43 points in front of Stuart Bentham, Trevor James & Kevin Wood all on 42!

Next update not until late Sunday I'm away and travelling

31mar11 cactus

30 bets just 4 winners, Dave Kingsbury 11-4, James Foley 11-8, Mark Orlando 11-4, Jed Parramore 9-4.

Jed's winner pushes him to within 2 points of Martin Long the leader of the plate who sat out today and into 2nd in the main comp 25.88 behind Ken Jones. Dave Fifield falls to 3rd after sitting out.

For those of you using Vince Paige as a runner the idea isn't that you talk about all the runners then claim you napped it - but it is good fun for us winding you up about all the near misses :-)

Thursday, 31 March 2011

30mar11 go India go

29 bets 7 winners but best was only 11-4 Gary Cawsey. Dave Fifield is 2nd 27.50 behind Ken Jones, the leader, who sits clear of the field on +37.00. Slight sign we are getting our act together (royal we of course!), we have now got 13 players in profit.

Good news Pete Long has drifted out of the cash - unfortunately still miles ahead of me!

In the plate Martin Long is opening a slight lead 43 points to Stuart Bentham's 37 - level bets.

Monday, 28 March 2011

picture needed

Someone chase Lee Constable for the back of the bus picture and I'll upload it - it will get rid of Kevin and Pete so big incentive :-)

28mar11 steady

25 bets 5 winners nothing stunning

For those who don;t check their excel update the current leader is Ken Jones after he followed up a 22-1 winner Friday with a 16-1 winner Saturday. That puts him on +37.00 and 25.50 clear of Dave Fifield on +11.50, Trevor James 3rd +8.00 Jed Parramore 4th and, I'm guessing a very proud, Jimmy McGarrity on +7.87 in 5th. Joanne O'Brien is 6th and the last in the money but she has only had 4 bets - what's up Jo?

Leadership in the plate changes almost every day tonight Martin Long has regained top spot on 39 3 points clear of joint 2nd place Jed Parramore and Kevin Wood.

Bit light on the paying getting the cash in early gives us a little interest to cover costs of engraving and shipping - so hurry up!

28mar11 yes! yes! yes!

got it!!!!!!

After a complete reconstruction of the blog, install new Chrome browser, and spending hours Googling all sort of weird geek sites found the answer to the problem and we are back

OK better do the update then

Olympics thought (rant) of the day

I agree the athletes that win gold medals for GB are indeed inspirational but so are Ryan Giggs/Wayne Rooney etc. but we don't give them tax payers money!

You want to play games, pay for it yourself - like I have to

We are about to charge our surgeons of the future to study and make them pay it back from their earnings how does that compare with these guys who simply run around become millionaires if they win where is their repayment obligation.

£725.00 for a ticket - bollocks roll on 2013!

Maurice Edgington

21mar11 antelope

26 bets 4 winners Mark Nutting, Martin Long (takes him top of the plate), Rod Brown, Stuart Bentham.

Apart from that no changes

Sunday, 20 March 2011

20mar11 much better!

Very slow day only 19 bets but 10 winners! all resonably short priced, Mark Kelly's 5-1 winner was the best one that took him exactly even.

Good point scoring in the plate makes it pretty tight at the top there, with Trevor James just staying aheand of Kevin Wood and Martin Long in 3rd.

Excel has been sent.
