Early ideas and dates for next Comp

As usual need a short gap before starting again!

Working backwards from a nice evening meeting at Windsor on Monday 11th July means a start on Tuesday 12th April, get that final day in the diary let's see if we can get critical mass to occupy the whole of the Champagne and Seafood bar again :-)

Details will follow in a few weeks and Vince will do the honours on the prize distribution next week

Already got new players - welcome to Adrian Hunt a well known racing journalist who paid me today and is already in!  And it looks like Steve Carter and Tom Feeney partners' have accepted the challenge to play next comp having stated that this looks easy - fighting talk!

Ascot final day

Didn't present the cup - I left it in the car miles away and it was raining! - We are going to meet up again to do that shortly.

20feb16 What a great final day

Congratulations to Andy Stevens who smashed in a 33-1 winner to snatch top from Kevin Roberts who's stay at the top was remarkably short lived, a tough loss to get over although sitting  at -£8 only two bets ago sure he would have settled for 2nd!

But 4 other very nice winners Pete Long 12-1 to go 4th, Mark Sharman to go 7th, another hard luck story this time Andy Grinter who napped Stan Moore's runner at Lingfield and it won at 14-1 to take him to the bubble - hope he backed it.  Finally Rod Brown 10-1 but that still left him in the bottom half.

A very nice piece of laying by Nigel who worried about the possibility of Andy's horse winning backed it enough to cover what he lost in prize money.

Stuart Bentham topped the winners chart with 40 out of 61 bets but still didn't make it into the cash in the main comp - for once no-one got cash from both supporting the contention that you can;t win the main comp and do well in the plate

19feb16 ready for tomorrow

For those going to Ascot tomorrow I'm aiming to be on course by around noon first race is 1.15.

So obviously only one story (see below) but I just checked back and Kev has napped that horse twice before in January both times it was hopeless so a little more easy to understand, unfortunately he's working tomorrow so won't be with us.  Nigel Clifford, the leader coming into today, picked a 5-2 winner very honourably not selecting the 1-33 fav in the two horse race.  Pete Long was the only other winner with a consolidating bet to keep him in the cash - smart move given how tight it is from 6th to 10th.

Plate is finished no changes in the order can happen tomorrow

Kev's response!

Just spoke with Kev he's more shocked than us - he only picked it because he has spent time in Brazil and knew what it mean't!

See never give up

Main update will follow much later some late runners at Dundalk involving leader board people

19feb16 UNBELIEVABLE!

Last update of the day and Kevin Roberts pops up with a 66-1 winner - the image of his very early text this morning from this morning is below!

So the tense and exciting finish for tomorrow has been ruined but fair play if you pick long shots then so be it

18feb16 Vince Wins

Vince's 5 point winner today secures the Plate title for him again Stuart & Chris both made him work for it just left to see if he can tie the world record number of points which is 309 with his last bet on Saturday.

So in the main comp just left to see what Nigel selects tomorrow if he missed Andy Stevens will go into the final day 50p up and with Steve Carter and Dave Klein also less than £5 behind the big prize is very much left to play for.

17feb16 just one

Richard Pascoe was the only winner yesterday at 7-2 as loads of us went hunting for the 33-1 super winner and clearly all missed!

In the plate everyone failed to score so that continues to play into Vince's hand with his 12 point lead

16feb16 high drama at the top

Just two winners today best was Andy Stevens 156-2 to go just 50p off the lead but Nigel has one extra bet to have - looks like that might have to be Annie tomorrow at 1-80!  So very exciting stuff hopefully both will be at Ascot.

In the plate Vince Paige secured the only other winner of the day 5 points and 11-8 so that might just about wrap up that he has a healthy 12 point lead 3 bets to go, his to throw away unless Chris can hit a 10 pointer on his extra bet then that will pressure him a little more.

15feb16 surely not!

Pete Long picks up another winner 5-1 using the trusted name of my children selection technique :-) still hammering me sitting 5th and in the cash so who's laughing!  Just 3 other winners Annette Berg creeps into double figures with her 10th winner at 9-4 and Vince Paige & Chris Pascoe both had the same 11-10 winner to put the pressure on Stuart at the top of the plate.  Barry can't now be caught so he collects the £50, 5th place prize in the plate.

14feb16 ILY winners

7 of them today with Pete Long getting another best of the day courtesy of a Mullins long shot winning at 12-1 enough to return him to 9th and a cash spot.  Jason McConkey & Tom McGarrity both had the same 7-2 winner which pushed Jason up a couple of places.  Stan Moore cemented his grip on the last cash spot with an 11-4 winner there is now a nice gap between 10th and the rest.  Dave Barker & Tom Feeney both had a nice 7-1 winner but in both cases probably too little too late, which just leaves Justin Sercombe 2-7 as the final winner.

In the plate the top 3 could only manage places today and that mean't Stuart & Chris both gained a point on Vince, not much impact really.  The top 4 are now secure in the top 4 spots just the order to sort out.

13feb16 Chocs ready!

just 4 winners the top three in the plate all shot priced stuff at least they weren't all on the same horse for once!.  But best of the day was 5-1 for Andy Stevens to put him right in the mix in 4th spot with every chance of a win.

12feb14 just a treble

Just 3 they were best of the day 10-1 for Andy Stevens to go 4th, Stan Moore 7-1 to move 9th and Barry Pemble 11-4.

In the plate the leading 3 all picked the same horse again and scored 2 points that makes the world record a lot tougher now!

11feb16 toughie

Just 6 winners today which considering 3 of them were the plate top 3 all on the same 1-5 shot not much of a return for 43 bets!  Best of the day was Terry Matthews at 7-1 which as that was only his 2nd winner didn't really do all that much for him unless he backed it of course! The other two winners were Helen Fahey 9-2 and Tom Feeney 15-8 which was enough to lift him a couple of places up to 5th.

The world record points total currently held by Vince is 309 and with varying degrees of likelihood all of the top 3 in the plate could still exceed that, Vince must be favourite but one dodgy jump over the last few fences on the run in and he's there for the taking!

10feb16 what a crap day

Another completely rubbish day's racing but 4 people managed to find winners the joint best of the day at 14-1 were Martin Long and Stan Moore which was enough to put Stan back on the leader board.  The other two were Tom Feeney at 11-8 & Dave Barker 5-4.

Monday, 8 February 2016

08feb16 some nice winners

10 winners in total and Carl Dean 12-1 scooped the best of the day but he is still well down, Andy Grinter returned to the leader board with his 11-1 winner, Martin Long 6-1 was the other decent price.  Dave Barker 1-2, Maurice Edgington 1-3, avoided joining the plate crowd and their 30-100 winner those guys were Chris Pascoe, Barry Pemble, Vince Paige, Stuart Bentham & Justin Sercombe

Sunday, 7 February 2016

07feb16 Same old thing

7 winners today best was 11-2 for Kevin wood and then joint 2nd best were 6 all on the Mullins 5-4 winner at Naas - do I really need to say who!

Saturday, 6 February 2016

06feb16 new leader

9 winners today and 4 of them were the same 5-1 winner those players were Kevin Roberts, Mark Sharman, Nigel Clifford & Steve Carter, 3 had La Reve at 4-1 Annette Berg, Jason McConkey Jimmy McGarrity.  Dave Kingsbury & Richard Pascoe both at 6-4 were the other two winners

05feb16 double day

Finally found a wifi link!

Thursday 7 winners best of the day a fluke 12-1 winner from Pete Long to go back into the cash, Vince Paige 9-2 & 10 points was a pretty significant winner for him in the plate now looks favourite and sits on the main leader board.  I managed a 4-1 winner and 10 points just a sniff of catching Kevin Wood and even Barry Pemble now long shot though.  The other 4 winners included a nice 6-1 winner for Dave Klein to go back top, 9-4 Mark Sharman to nudge up a spot or two, 15-8 Natasha Tizzano and finally a rare winner for Paul Berg at 100-30 but it does take him above Annette.

Only 4 winners on Friday Annette Berg 7-4 hitting back immediately Ben Cheetham 8-11, Richard Pascoe 9-4 and a best of the day for Tim Catlin 6-1 to move nicely into contention and cash.

03feb17 Big Winner

Tom Feeney storms up to 4th place with a smashing 20-1 winner today and there were others who impressed.  Jo Hutson and Kev Roberts both picked the same 9-1 winner Jo is now 19th less than £5 off the leader board.  There were a total of 7 winners in the day the other 4 were all the same horse at 1-4 can;t be bothered to write out the same old names yet again tonight :-)

02feb16 Bumper Day

13 winners and a few nice ones best of the day was Pat Quinn Jnr 10-1 and he needed it! Joint second best were Tim Catlin 8-1 to go to the foot of the table and Andy Stevens to zoom up to 4th.  Also with a nice winner was Jason McConkey 11-4 to move 5th.  Loads of other mainly for all the top of the plate.  Also earning a mention are both Gary Dighton & Rod Brown who both hit the same 6-1 winner but are both still miles behind!

So the only interesting move in the plate is the fact that Justin Sercombe, the defending champion, went dormy today.  He is still really in the hunt, 5 bets in hand and only 25 points behind, could this be a canny wait for some nice 10 pointers or could it backfire and he end up with a couple of forced losers!

Monday, 1 February 2016

01feb16 slow day

Plenty sat out and I think that was a wise move just 5 winners today and the best of those was Dave Kingsbury 11-2, Barry Pemble & Ian Carpenter 10-11, Helen Fahey 9-4, & Justin Sercombe 2-1 were the others.
