29feb12 24 years ago

Yes 24 years ago just about to the minute Sue proposed to me - and what am I doing all these years on the napscomp update!

Some people had some winners and some didn't - Wine calling :-)

Can't leave out Terry Mathews moment of glory 14-1 winner today to go 38th and for the 3rd day in a row Julian Ciampioli was the only winner in the top 10 with 7-2 winner to bring up a five timer

Tuesday 28 February 2012

28feb12 you all ready girls?

10 winners from 49 bets, Julian Ciampioli keeps up the good work with a 11-4 winner once again the only one in the top 10 and rises up to 3rd.  Other winners today were Vince Paige also 11-4 (happy now), Gavin Bosse 7-2, Mark Dighton 7-2 to go to +£2.75 & 19th place, others all shorter.

The top 2 in the plate were the only players and both picked up 5 points so placings remain unaltered to coin a phrase.

Eamon Kelly went dormy today - notable as he is in the top 10

Monday 27 February 2012

27feb12 deja vue

8 winners from 42 bets and again the only winner from the top 10 was Julian Ciampioli 6-4 to move to 6th. Others included Kevin Hall 9-2,  Michael Brook & Rod Brown both 3-1 all the others were short odds.

In the plate only bet was from Justin Sercombe who unsuccessfully used up one of his bets in hand - failing to score at all, otherwise no change.

Sunday 26 February 2012

26feb12 at last Wales lost

But only just!

Overall today 10 winners from 52 bets but none were bigger than 15-8 so nothing much to write about.  Only winner in the top 10 was Julian Ciampioli but that didn't alter his 7th place.

A bit of a swap around among the top 5 in the plate as they start to open up a bit of a gap from me on the bubble in 6th!

Excel sent a while back.

Saturday 25 February 2012

25feb12 we was robbed

Lucky or what for Wales - best side lost!

9winners from 59 bets today, the only winner from the leaderboard was Julian Ciampioli with a 13-8 shot that mean't he rose one spot to 7th.  Tom Feeney had the best of the day at 17-2 and Michael Brook brought up a treble with a 9-2 winner that takes him to exactly level in 23rd place all the others were small prices.

In the plate Stuart Bentham took over again at the top after Barry Pemble could only manage a 2nd place 2 pointer.

Friday 24 February 2012

24feb12 TFI Friday

So if you pick runners in the late races on Friday your are going to have to wait for your result until Saturday! so assuming the 2 who have done that both have losers we are 9 winners from 62 bets today.  All the top 8 in the main comp had losers except Daniel Billingham who sat out.  So sneaking into 9th Was Kevin Wood after a nice 3-1 10 point winner & Robert Baker 10th after his 7-2 winner. Best of the day were Bert Peart and Michael Brook with 11-2 winners but both sit in the bottom half.

Barry Pemble took over at the top of the plate with his 5 pointer as Stuart Bentham sat out and Kevin Wood moved 4th relegating Justin Sercombe to 5th and knocking me out of the top 5.

Thursday 23 February 2012

23feb12 19 days to go

Well that must have been a tough one with only 4 winners from 55 bets!  Those winners were Robert Baker 5-2, Barry 7-1 to unseat Tim Catlin from from 3rd place,  James Foley 7-4, & Lee Constable  13-2.

In the plate a 5 point 2nd for Justin Sercombe saw him move into 4th while I only managed to hold onto a place on the leaderboard on count back with me and Kevin Wood tied on 121 points.

Jed Parramore went dormy today after his selection was a non runner

Wednesday 22 February 2012

22feb12 the way I write 'um

Star of the piece today was Tim Catlin with his 8-1 winner to go 3rd in the main comp and still not paid.  Overall a busy day with 52 bets and 8 winners, good to see a couple of dormy guys back, Kevin Findlay had a bet after 19 losers in a row and Andy Pitter back after 12.  Other winners were Trevor James who had a great result everyone else in the plate picked the favourite in a large field at Punchestown and he back the 6-1 shot that turned it over so moved into the top 20 and gained 10 on everyone at the top of the plate.  Annette Berg brought up a treble with a small 8-11 winner, Barry James rose to 6th place on the strength of a nice 9-2 winner.  Jed Parramore scored with a 4-1 winner and moved to +£6.54.  Martin Long got back on track having missed out yesterday with a 15-8 winner his inexorable climb continues.

Both Dan Beaman & Neil Allen went dormy today.

Tuesday 21 February 2012

21feb12 Italian Job

Julian Ciampioli storms up the leader board with a 12-1 winner that follows up his 6-1 & 9-2 winners in the past 4 bets, he now sits 7th on +£14.13.  Overall 9 winners from 52 bets.  Steve Walton had a nice 5-1 winner to begin to show some upward movement - at last! Three people picked the dead heat even money winner we've had about 8 or 10 dead heats this comp normally its one or two tops. Others were Annette Berg 6-4 to bring up a double but Paul still has the bragging rights in their house though! Also Gary Cawsey 6-4, Michael Brook 5-2.

The two leaders Stuart Bentham & Barry Pemble picked the same dead heat even money winner and as I sat out and the other leaders both failed to score a point a good day for me!

Whip Rules Rant

So here we are thinking the period of never ending changes to the whip rule is over and along comes another just in time to remind all of the non racing fans, who only catch the headlines about our sport, that the sport's administrators are indeed as bad as thought late last year.  I'm guessing but maybe just about at the point that this was about to be put behind us.

If Jade my 10 year old was as bad as this about organizing herself to go to Saturday morning Pony Club I would stop her going!

20feb12 big winner

46 bets and 8 winners including two double figures.  The big one was Jake Fifield 28-1 to zoom up to 7th on +£13.58 and Barry James 10-1 to move into 8th just 8p behind Jake Fifield.  Apart from that no other big movers.

All of the top 8 in the plate sat out today.

Sunday 19 February 2012

19feb12 bit quieter

45 bets today and 11 winners nothing massive, best of the day was 7-1 for Nick Bosse but he was well down and needed that!  13-2 for Jimmy McGarrity to move him back to +£7.00 and only £1.03 from a cash position , 6-1 for Julian Ciampioli to take him positive in 21st.  All the others were smaller

In the plate all the top 6 had a bet but I had the only winner but as it was only a 3 pointer it didn't make much difference. Martin Long continued his rise up the plate with another winner to bring him up to 11th and with a few bets in hand on the leaderboard - expect him to feature in the cash come the final run in.

Excel on its way.

Saturday 18 February 2012

18feb12 5-0 away we're back

But that's Cheltenham football, on one of the best days racing for a while saw 57 bets and 10 winners, of most note was another winner for Paul Berg at 9-2 who is having a brilliant comp and now must finish over £20 up brilliant at only half way stage.  The other 9-2 winner was for Martin long who moved into positive territory and that brings up his 8th winner in the last 10 - his bet against a despondent Vince Paige looks nailed on!

In the plate the leaders who have selected, by coincidence, the same horse on 21 occasions so far this comp! This time saw the short priced Gowran Park favourite turned over and didn't score.  My little foray into better priced horses away from Eire didn't get me into the top 10 of the main comp and allowed Justin Sercombe to shoot back into 3rd after a nice 10 pointer.  Looks like I'll have to give that up or slip out of the top 5.

Friday 17 February 2012

17feb12 half a great day

11 winners from the largest ever day in naps comp history 63 bets.  Highlights were the 6 who picked Zarkandar for 10 points and a generous 11-4 SP.  Billy Bray picked the best of the day at 5-1 and Julian Ciampioli not far behind with his 9-2 winner.

Both leaders in the plate picked a 5 point winner and I missed out by not selecting zarkander when those around me did.

One bet to go as I write this at 8.15 but can't wait for that!

Thursday 16 February 2012

16feb12 World Record 22

Yep! 22 winners today from a massive 59 bets.  Clearly not going through them all in this little missive.  Suffice to say Paul Berg went top again with a nice 5-1 winner and a number of of other top 10 movers Eamon Kelly rose to 4th after the same 5-1 winner and Tony Norton arrived in the cash for the first time in 10th after a  4-1 shot.

The total was significantly helped by all of the top 6 in the plate picking the same 2-7, 10 point winner (also Gary Pascoe in 9th) so 7 on the same 2-7 shot!

I hear some unrest about this and what's happening in the plate, but why would any guys going for the main prize be worried?  The plate boys effectively rule themselves out of any chance of the decent money in the main comp surely clearing they way for those who are targeting the big one. Remember 87% of the prize pool is for the main comp.

Wednesday 15 February 2012

15feb12 second half

We have today moved into the second half of the comp with 45 days to go.  We celebrated that fact by having the busiest day so far in the whole comp 55 bets and 10 winners.  The best was Gavin Bosse 9-1 to move him up from the depths to the top half (35th).  Other good winners were Shaun Johnson 13-2,  me 3-1! Luke Silk 7-2, Pat Quinn Jnr 7-2, and a host of shorter priced.

In the plate a bit of action but my 10 point winner made most difference as the only winner among the top 5 although everyone scored points.

Tuesday 14 February 2012

14feb12 I love you all

5 from 41 today - they were Stuart Bentham & Barry Pemble 30-100! Paul Berg 2-1 to close back up to just 15p behind the leader.  Also Martin Long who has clearly changed strategy and has now given up on the main comp and is now back on the plate recording his 6th short priced winner in 8 bets to move onto 42 points in 13th.  Finally Eamon Kelly 5-2 to move up a place to 6th.

In the plate the leaders were the only 2 to have a bet and both picked up 3 points which I'm not not completely sure wasn't almost good news for us pursuers as that was below their average.

Monday 13 February 2012

13feb12 Too late now

11 winners from 29 today so very well done most were short priced favourites except for Tim Catlin who found an 11-1 winner to move up to 5th - perhaps he can pay for his entry now as he sees Vince every week :-).  Mark Orlando & Robert Baker were the only other winners from the top 10 but too short to affect their places in 9th & 10th respectively.

In the plate I was the only top 6 player to have a bet and all I could manage was a miserly 1 point 3rd to effectively lose ground on the others who sat out.

Both John Roach & George Casserley went dormy today.

Sunday 12 February 2012

12feb12 ноль or Nul

Continuing the Russian theme zero from 34 bets so that doesn't give me loads to write about other than my regret at backing Wolves to beat WBA today - nice one!

All the top 5 in the plate at least scored but Trevor gained 3 points over the others with his 5 point 2nd against the same 2 point 3rd for the rest of us.

Mark Orlando went dormy today which is a bit significant as he sits 8th at the moment.

Excel going out in a minute

Saturday 11 February 2012

11feb12 back in the USSR

Well UK actually, but seems like the USSR temp wise!

47 bets and 7 winners, Tony Norton 2-1, Steve Walton 11-2 (he doesn't often get a mention this comp!), Martin Long 4-6, Michael Brook 13-2 the best of the day, Kevin Wood 7-2, Eamon Kelly 7-2 to rise a couple of places to 7th, & Annette Berg 2-1.  Leader sat out so extended his lead by £1.00.

In the plate the nice 10 point winner for Kevin wood, not only lifted him a place or two in the main leader board but saw him in go 4th in the plate, Trevor James managed a 5 point 2nd to move into 3rd.

Friday 10 February 2012

10feb12 new leader

Well not new but different from yesterday as Jon Curtis picks up a 7-2 winner and nips 15p ahead of Paul Berg.  Overall 5 winners from 39 bets as well as Jon Curtis, Danial Billingham brought up a treble today with a 100-30 winner to go 3rd others were Mark Nutting 2-1, Trevor James 7-2, Stuart Bentham 1-2.

In the plate Stuart Bentham took back over on top with his 5 point winner and Trevor James left back onto the leader board after his 10 point winner into 3rd.  So we are in a very rare moment here as Justin Sercombe doesn't show in the cash - not for long though :-)

Thursday 9 February 2012

09feb12 nice day

11 winners from 44 bets today as the racing improved, well in Eire anyway.  Top today was the same 12-1 winner for Jon Curtis, to really make a dent in Paul Berg's lead, and also Mark Kelly who jumped up to 4th.  Other winners of note were Daniel Billingham 5-1 to go 5th, and Pete Wilson 11-2.  Barry James also picked up a nice 10-1 winner to move into the top 20 - sorry Barry!

In the plate everyone had a bet today so there was a bit of movement as Justin Sercombe was the only one who failed to pick a winner and he slipped back to 5th on 2nd place count backs!

this is great

Capello and Terry both gone so just Ferdinand, Lampard & Gerrard to go and we will be shot of the "golden  era" so maybe now we can win something because the one thing we do know is those guys couldn't

Wednesday 8 February 2012

08feb12 can this get any worse

Lets have some decent racing somewhere!

3 winners today from a low 31 bets they were Daniel Billingham 15-8 to move him up to 6th, John Roach best of the day 3-1, so having only got off the mark on Monday this week he has recorded a treble but still sits 29th the final winner was the leader Paul Berg 11-10 to just keep us all on our toes.

No bets at all from the top 5 in the plate

Dave Palmer and Andy Wilson went dormy today

Tuesday 7 February 2012

07feb12 7 days 'til valentine!

44 bets and 9 winners best of these was Rod Brown at 12-1 that moves him to 19th and Gary Pascoe 10-1 to lift him to a plucky 27th.  Jon Curtis picked up an 11-2 winner to go back to 2nd but still £15.25 behind the leader.  Robert Baker's 9-2 shot pushed him onto the leader board in 8th.

No change at the top of the plate again

06feb12 happy birthday Jade

39 bets and 4 winners they were John Roach 3-1 who got off the mark, Jimmy McGarrity 1-2 the only winner even near the top 10 today that took him to 12th, Martin Long 6-4, & Pat Quinn Snr also 3-1.

None of the top 6 in the plate even had a bet, not all that surprising judging by the fare our sport manages to serve up on days like today - and Tuesday looks even worse!

Sunday 5 February 2012

05feb12 Eire to the rescue

A slow day of course but we still managed 5 winners from 29 bets.  Winners were Barry Pemble, Jed Parramore & Stuart Bentham, all with a DH winner @1-5! Me with a 4-9 shot and Martin Long with the best of the day 7-4.  Stuart Bentham's winner today made that 6 in a row cracking stuff even if the combined winnings from all 6 is only £4.73!

In the plate the top two matched each other again and are pulling away and I regained my 4th spot - well done me!

Excel update has been sent

Saturday 4 February 2012

04feb12 nice day

35 bets and 11 winners and a fair selection of nice ones!

Bets of the day was Tim Catlin 8-1 to move him onto the leader board in 9th.  I had a 7-1 winner to go 16th on +£6.66.  Barry James & Jimmy Mcgarrity both picked 11-2 winners lifting Jimmy Mcgarrity to 11th= on +£9.00.  Kevin Wood 6-1 lifted him to 6th & Pat Quinn Jnr 13-2 helped his cause a bit.

In the plate all the top 6 had winners but as mine was the only 5 pointer, all the others scored 10, I fell from the leader board as predicted yesterday!

Friday 3 February 2012

03feb12 5 timer for leader

Yes he has done it again OK this time only a even money shot but 5 in a row certainly looks good.  I suppose it actually gives us all hope if Paul Berg can do it then can't we all :-).

Overall 7 winners from 33 bets including 2 forced losers.  Best was 11-2 for Mark Dighton that lifted him back on to the leader board just.

In the plate Kevin Wood's determined bid to get on the leader board has worked and he replaces Trevor James in 5th place and look ominously like he will be capturing 4th from me pretty soon :-(

Thursday 2 February 2012

02feb12 nice warm day

10 winners from 41 bets today - not bad considering the standard of the racing.  Best winner was shared by Mark Orlando 6-1 to lift him from 10th to 6th and Kevin Wood who keeps up the pressure on Trevor James who also picked up a winner.

In the plate we have finally seen a movement in the leaderboard with Barry Pemble losing top spot to Stuart Bentham just 1 point in it both on level bets.

01feb12 Atlanta

6 winners from 37 bets - nothing very special and the leaderboard only changed because of the odd loser.  Winners were Wayne Morton, Stuart Bentham, Robert Baker, Luke Silk, Dave Barker and Jimmy McGarrity, best price was only 9-2.

Plate saw a few bets but no change in the order although Kevin Wood is gradually catching up in 6th and he sits on 55 points from 18

Val recorded the first forced loser of the comp today
