22jan22 FINAL DAY REPORT

Firstly congratulations to our two winners good stuff!

5 winners and more last day movement on the leader board than usual.  Clearly Martin Long's 20-1 winner in the final race of the comp was the most noticeable lifting him to a £100 prize and he backed it, that winner pushed Gary Dighton out of the cash and Tom McGarrity's 13-8 winner did the same to Sonya Paige a debutant.  Stuart Bentham rounded off a pretty stunning performance in the plate by bringing up an 8 timer and a 275 point total.  38 winners from 61 bets and only 3 selections out of 61 that didn't make the frame.  There were final day winners for Chris Pascoe who only had his first winner of the comp with just 15 bets to go and then banged in 9 from those last 15.  The other winner was Mark Lowry who correctly deduced that any sort of winner even the 2-5 one he picked would keep him in a cash position which is exactly what Jonbon did for him.

21jan22 LAST DAY UPON US

 No outright winners at all for the first time this comp but Steve Taylor in the last race at Newcastle scored a dead heat at 11-2.  The paucity of winners a combination of non runners after MR was abandoned and people searching for the "Hail Mary" winner.  

See you at Ascot tomorrow - maybe?

20jan22 SOME CHANGE

Gary Dighton catches a 17-2 winner to move up 6 places to 5th spot so with Mark Lowry's 10-11 winner that shuffles the minor places and Tom McGarrity falls down to the bubble, but comforted by the fact that today he secured 3rd spot in the plate!  The only other winner was the leader Chris Pascoe 10-11 as well to set Kevin a bit of a task in the final two days, looks like he will need at least a 10-1 winner to catch him if Chris carries on banging in these odds on favourites.   

19jan22 COME CATCH ME!

The leader, Chris Pascoe, is banging in short price winners (5 from the last 6) and that's what he is saying!  His winner today was 5-6, others were Stuart Bentham also 5-6, Sonya Paige, taking a leaf out of the leaders book and staying 5th with her 2-5 winner.  Finally a nice 7-1 winner for Paul Berg (leader fell at the last) but probably too little too late but anyway now he is £15 behind a cash paying spot.

18jan22 NO CHANGE AT THE TOP

Winners for Mark Lowry & Stuart Bentham 2-5 and Sonya Paige 4-6 so clearly no major changes.  Impressive finish to the comp by Stuart today's winner brought up a 6 timer and was his 36th winner a hit rate of 61%

17jan22 WINNER

Congratulations to Stuart Bentham the confirmed now as the winner of the plate 52 points clear Vince only has 4 bets left.  Winners today were Stuart Bentham & Chris Pascoe both 30-100 and Ben Cheetham 11-8.  

16jan22 NO CHANGE

No change in the order on either leader board, the only winner in the main comp that impacted was Chris Pascoe whose consolidating short price winners tactic is working, 1-2 today to now sit £5.39 ahead.  Five winners today in total best was Dave Brammer 8-1 to move him to about £16 off a cash paying spot.  Helen Fahey 1-2 brought up a double she now sits about £11 off a cash paying place.  Stuart Bentham 2-5 again and, but that Vince sat out, would have been confirmed as the winner Vince has 5 bets left and is 47 behind.  Final winner was for me 11-8 and 10 points so maybe I spoke to soon yesterday conceding to Tom McGarrity for that 3rd spot in the plate, 2 bets in hand 19 points behind back in the game!

15jan22 GOT SIDETRACKED

By excessive drinking after the football (Cheltenham v Charlton) so apologies for another late one. 5 Winners including an 8-13 winner for the leader Chris Pascoe so gaining £1.62 on 2nd placed Kevin Dighton.  Other were Helen Fahey 100-30, Mark Lowry 4-5, to push Sonya Paige out of the cash spots, Stuart Bentham, of course, 2-5 and for 10 points and almost certainly 3rd and final cash spot in the plate 9-4 for Tom McGarrity that also pushed him into a cash spot in the main comp.

14jan22 THE PLATE

Firstly the plate which is now effectively over for 1st and 2nd place with Stuart 39 points clear with 6 bets remining.  so to give Stuart something else to aim for below are the top 10 best ever plate scores, shouldn't be too difficult to get into the top 10 and maybe even the top 5.

So for the proper competition we had 6 winners Kevin Dighton popped in a nice 11-4 winner to take the lead for a moment but Chris Pascoe retaliated with his own 2-1 winner to stay just ahead although a little closer.  Other winners were Stuart & Mark Lowry both 6-4 and Jason McConkey & Tom McGarrity both 10-11.  Tom looking odds on for the final paying position in the plate now after i failed to score twice in a row.

13jan21 LATE

Thursday result not worth the wait 1-2 winner from Stuart Bentham at the top of the plate and a 9-4 winner for Mark Lowry was all there was to report

12jan22 SLIGHTLY BETTER

4 winners today including me 6-5, Andy Stevens 17-2, Richard Pascoe 2-1 & Helen Fahey 2-7.  The only real change there was for Richard who moved up a couple of spots on the leader board.  A sign of the paucity of winners between us in this comp is the fact that only the top 7 (which are the cash paying positions) are above break even, mostly the positive totals stretch way past that!

11jan21 JUST TWO

Two winners today Kevin Wood brought up a double with a 5-1 shot to follow his winner yesterday and Richard Pascoe 9-4 which was enough to get him on the foot of the leader board but only because I kindly extended it for him!.  In the plate looks like Stuart has an unassailable lead now after a 5 point 2nd to Vince's 0 points.  

10jan21 USUAL POOR QUALITY MONDAY

Three winners Stuart Bentham extended his lead in the plate to 26 points with a 5-6 winner - can he be caught?  Best of the day from Ian Carpenter who has had a quiet comp this time but picked up a 10-1 winner, a couple more of them and who knows!  Finally Kevin Wood 4-1.  The leader's run finished so as Kevin Dighton sat out the gap narrowed a £1.

A few comments supporting the proposal for a gap of about 5 weeks before the 49th event targeting a finish at an evening jumps meeting at Stratford on a Friday night - see if we can get a big turn out for that one (27th May 2022, which this year is not the bank holiday weekend)

09jan21 AND AGAIN

leader correctly changes tactics and picks his 2nd winner this time a 3-1 fav to extend the lead at the top.  Three other winners Pete Long 11-10 and Colin Warmington & Gary Dighton both on the same 11-2 winner which lifts Gary onto the leader board in 7th the last cash paying position

08jan21 WOW ROLE OF HONOUR WINNER

Chris Pascoe live from Slovakia picks the second highest SP winner in the history of the comp at 80-1 and unbelievably that was his first winner of the comp and moved him from 41st and last to leading by just over £4.  All this after a 2nd at 80-1 yesterday as well and after he has recorded 25 forced losers, he went dormy in November, there is hope for us languishing at the foot of the table still!

GREAT STUFF

So other than that Sonya Page consolidated in 6th with a 6-4 winner and that just leaves one other winner Helen Fahey at 2-5.  In the plate Tom McGarrity, obviously worried that I may catch him for 3rd and £50, picked the 1-4 favourite in the only 16+ runner race of the day as a protective measure in case I had, which I had, so that worked and it was also exactly what Stuart and Vince have been doing for ages and did again today.

Another day with only 2 winners Andy Warmington 9-2 and Gary Dighton joining his brother, the leader, on the leader board with a 9-2 winner of his own!

06Jan22 DOUBLE

 Just two winners today Steve Taylor a first time this comp welcome to the leader board (just) after the best of the day 9-2 winner and joining him in the winners enclosure was Jimmy McGarrity 9-4.  

05jan21 SINGLE

 A single winner that's all today Colin Warmington 6-1!

04jan22 LAST GASP DUAL WINNER

Other than Tom McGarrity's 11-8 winner I thought that was it for the day but surprisingly Gary Dighton & Steve Taylor popped up in the last with a 20-1 outsider that just held on to beat the evens favourite.    

VERY SAD NEWS

I was contacted today by Christine Brown to tell me that Rod sadly and most unexpectedly died yesterday of a massive heart attack.  

Rod joined through Steve Walton, he was a client of Steve's for many years and, of course, more recently Vince.  Rod was player #34 and his first comp was in 2006, his only win was at his second attempt in 2007.  Since that date he never missed a comp and was very regular attendee at the end of comp trips to various courses.  He will be sadly missed, and all of our condolences go to Christine and the rest of Rod's family.

Vince and I will plan to send some flowers or make a suitable donation on behalf of all of us naps compers when Christine sends us the details.

03jan22 HOLS FINI

That's it holidays all over just 2 winners for us today a nice consolidating 51 winner for Robert Dudley in 4th, he has 10 more bets to have than the leader so if he can find a few more like that who knows!  The other winner was Stuart Bentham at the top of the plate 4-9 and 5 points so 22 ahead, Vince has 2 bets in hand.  

02jan22 PLATE IN PLAY

Four players looking for a short priced winner for 10 points which duly obliged at evens obviously Stuart & Vince but also Frank Tubman and me in my bid to catch Tom McGarrity in 3rd for a money pay out now 5 games in hand 21 points behind.  The other winners were Chris Martin 2nd 11-4 winner in as many days to go 14th and only £2.50 down & Tom Jones 3-1, he's languishing down near me so miles away!

01jan22 2 NICE WINNERS

Pete Long 12-1 and Spenser Mills 10-1, to move 5th, were those two stand out results.   The other four were the Vince/Stuart combo both picking the same horse again at 2-9, Chris Martin 11-4 & Frank Tubman 7-4 on the very impressive L'Homme Presse at Chelters.
