31jan13 massive month end

14 winners today from 36 bets nothing staggering but highlight was Scott Bennett with his 11-2 shot for his opening bet to leap into first place, Alan Mabb had the same 11-2 winner and now sits 2nd. Too many to list the other 12!

In the plate I returned to the top on 15 points on count back ahead of Kevin Wood; Vince Paige & Justin Sercombe who all picked the same horse again and this time a 10 pointer.

Gareth Chapman rejoined today to lift us to 55 players - with still just one to pay, come on Daniel "S*** or get of the pot"

Wednesday 30 January 2013

30jan13 tornado city here!

Getting busier again 27 bets and 6 winners they were best of the day 7-2 for Alan Daniels to bring up his double, 3-1 for both Martin Sharman (now also 2 from 2 ) and Roger Dore, 6-4 for Pat Quinn Snr. and Gary Pascoe and finally 10-11 for Annette Berg.

In the plate three of us now on 10 points I'm 3rd on winner count back.

Now up to 54 runners with 2 more added since yesterday.

Tuesday 29 January 2013

29jan13 bit busier

22 bets today but just 3 winners best was from new leader Jake Fifield at 6-1 with Alan Daniels & Alan Mabb both picking a 5-4 winner

In the plate I remain undisturbed in a glorious lead and long may it remain :-)

Just one left to pay (Daniel Billingham) and we now have 52 runners with Johnny Lynch joining today

Monday 28 January 2013

28jan13 day two

Even slower than yesterday but racing was v bad so only 14 players and a solitary winner for Mark Quinn at evens.  As a result hardly any changes to leader boards

Alan Daniels joined today so now have 51 runners

Sunday 27 January 2013

AND WE'RE OFF

So day one of our 33rd comp reads like this 15 bets from a possible 50 players (gained one more today).  Best of the day was Celeste Beaty who picked a 9-2 winner closely followed on the fresh leader board by me (hooray) with a 7-2 winner, new boy Martin Sharman & Tom Feeney both collected an 8-11 winner.

In the plate I'm top after my 10 pointer - enough said

Just two still to pay (Daniel Billingham & Gary Cawsey) so thanks everyone for making the effort on this certainly keeps the admin down on the chasing and stops Vince moaning at me all the time :-)

Lanzarote Hurdle Kempton 12jan13

A nice 18 runner field for tomorrow's big hurdle so 1/4 first 4 for the each way.  But that probably won't work for my selection as it is the favourite, Bear's Affair, currently around 5-1 but not much of a market around this early.  To my mind the favourite's main rival is his stable mate Oscara Dara got Geraghty riding so that's a plus but concerned about the rather odd foray into chasing last time (presumably he didn't take to it but only one try?) and also never raced over 17f and the Lanzarote is 21f - so that's enough doubts for me! Black Thunder pushing hard for favouritism but not for me because of the form of the November run at Haydock which doesn't look great in hindsight with Yesyoucan only 8th next time out.  Lamb or Cod & Captain sunshine look well held by the principals.

So Bear's Affair to win for me - can I go 3 for 3 since Christmas?

Update on entries for #33 Comp

So far we have about 36 confirmed players for the next comp but lots of regulars have yet to reply so we are expecting around 45.

Slightly disappointing turnout to what has traditionally been our most popular comp of the year - maybe it is the lack of promotion (nagging) from Vince that is the cause

Next Naps Comp 27jan13

Hi

Happy New Year to everyone

In exactly 9 weeks time, day one of the festival will be all over and Melodic Rendezvous will have won the Supreme Novices, Simonsig the Arkle, and Zarkander the Champion Hurdle for a great 210-1 treble!

But even more exciting is the news of the next naps comp:

Comp number 33 will start on Sunday 27th January and finish 91 days later with the final day being Saturday 27th April at Punchestown with 10 of us on the naps comp travel trip (Jimmy/Paul have you booked your flights yet?), with Kevin Wood already going and Gary Pascoe making his own way there we will have a good turnout for our first European adventure – 2014, Melbourne Cup here we come!

No changes to costs (still £50) or any other rules except, to reduce the admin, we are going to enforce the NO PAY NO PLAY rule completely so please let Vince or I know if you are going to join us again and we will set you up in all the records.  No bets will be accepted unless and until you paid – sorry guys.

So far we have 22 entries all of who have already paid so a good strong start, apologies if you have either already told us you are not joining us for this one or if you are one of the 22.

Goes without saying that we would welcome any new players and this email will auto post on the blog so refer new people there for rules etc.

The Tolworth Hurdle, Sandown 05jan13

Nice G1 race with some top novices presumably all looking to stake their claim for the Supreme at Cheltenham.

Clearly Poet couldn't have done any more last time out, a good flat horse with wins in listed company was very impressive at Newbury and looks to have a liking for soft going, and of course the winner of this is going to need to like it bottomless!  That said I'm only seeing Poet as a live danger and not the winner - I expect that both Royal Boy and Melodic Rendezvous to finish ahead of him!  Why? the form at Cheltenham in December when Melodic ran really well up the hill always holding Royal Boy a classic sign that he had a bit more to give.  The course is tougher than flat Newbury OK you could argue that the race at Cheltenham was not run at full pace but both of them were a decent way ahead of Eduard who bolted up in his race before.  Finally don't forget Melodic was 2nd in the Punchestown Festival bumper last year also quality form

So it's Melodic Rendezvous for me All three of them show at about 7-2 this evening but with only 7 runners at most each way not an option.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

May all your bets be prosperous ones - obviously except when they are against mine!

Vince & I will get the details of the next comp #33 out this weekend to give everyone the opportunity to join in good time.

As I think most should all be aware of by now, we are going to operate a "PAY BEFORE YOU PLAY" policy from now on to help reduce all the end of comp admin.
