Plans for Punchestown

Text of email sent out below

******************************************************

Let’s do it again was the cry at the Naps Comp Towcester Let’s go to Punchestown again So here is the idea for a trip to sync with the end the next comp Punchestown at the end of April 15.  The last trip worked pretty well and so let’s basically repeat that was the thinking.  We have checked the more organized tours that are based in Dublin but basically they sort of double the price, OK we are in Dublin and get a hotel room etc. but we are thinking that’s not the way to go.  There is also a panoramic restaurant package adds about £200 to the entrance for the two days on top of the £65 below, that’s still a decision to make maybe.

I’m using Euro 1.25 = £1.00 all numbers are per person

Thursday 30apr15 Flights from Bristol to Dublin depart 4.20pm arrive Dublin 5.30pm (Ryanair) assumes hand luggage only & inc £6 admin fee
Return Sunday 03may15 at 2.50pm arrive Bristol 4.00pm total return costs £70    (this was the price looked up on 18dec14 so might change as we get nearer)

Transfer from Dublin to accommodation by minibus (assumes 6 passengers) £15 - guess

2 houses for 6 in each (each has 2 rooms with double beds and 1 twin and 3 baths) €450 each for Thursday, Friday, Saturday so assuming full say £65

Badges - group package rate cost includes entrance for both Friday & Saturday, Reserved Enclosure admission, Race card, €5 bet voucher, €5 drink voucher, total for both days £60

Transfer from accommodation to Dublin by minibus (assumes 6 passengers) £15 - guess

Accommodation is at www.avonri.com spoke to them 18dec14 filling up but still plenty available – 2 coaches to course and back each day Avon have bar, entertainment, fine dining, spa & gym suite (breakfast only included)

So total costs pre food drink and betting looks like £225 per head – say £240 (reduce by £100 if travelling separately).

This is really just a heads up to allow you to think about it and decide if it is for you not asking for cash now just trying to get an idea of interest and possible numbers.  Vince & I would intend to try and get this sorted by mid-January and so if I was booking your flights for you I would need the £240 in cash into the naps comp account by then - if you were booking you own flights then just £140.

WARNING – above prices are based on either 6 or 12 of us going if we were in between that we would see a lift in the accommodation costs per head so say there were 9 of us we would be saying an extra £20 each to cover the under occupancy.  Remember there is a risk of sharing bedrooms!!

Vince & I would collect the cash sort the purchases and return the small amount of change over there or we may need that for tips.

We are not restricted to 12 no probs with 18!!

We will contact you again first week of Jan for final decisions and cash if we have sufficient numbers to run the trip

29nov14 Brilliant

Great turn out and a great day to finish the comp and remember Steve he would have loved it.

Just 3 winners but WOW what excitement as Roger Dore's 14-1 winner stormed up the stand rail at 14-1 to win and lift Roger into first place.  Heart wrenching for Chris Pascoe the long time leader but well done Roger and thanks for the kind round of drinks he bought for everyone despite not being there!

For the record the other winners were Annette Berg 2-1 that's 13 for Annette and just 7 for Paul :-) and Jason McConkey 8-1 to finish 14th on his first venture into the naps comp world.  Special mention for our youngest ever player Annabelle Carpenter 19th in the main comp and 11th in the plate that means 32 players below her and she is only 12!!

Plate was sown up ages ago but last day change as Justin managed to over haul Stuart to take 3rd.

Friday 28 November 2014

28nov14 ONE TO GO

Sorry for the delay had to wait for runners at Wolverhampton tonight

Only 2 winners today Martin Long 6-1 took the honours moved up to 5th place in a very congested 3rd through 9th part of the table, the other winner was David Sharman 4-1 needed to be 40-1!! List over shows all the leader board down to everyone within 25-1 of cash!

In the plate still two issues to be decided Justin can still catch Stuart for 3rd (2 points for Justin would still leave him behind on winners count back) and Jed can knock Chris out of the cash if he can gain 7 points (Chris would win on winners count back if they are level).

See loads of you tomorrow, cup will be there and on display

Thursday 27 November 2014

27nov14 double

Just two winners Vince picked up a 13-8 winner and closed in on cash and Martin Long for the side bet but still needs at least a 6-4 winner to overtake him. Best of the day goes to Kevin Wood 12-1 but that still only takes him 18th.

In the plate Barry is definitely 2nd, but Jed can still knock Chris Pascoe out of the cash if he finishes strongly

Wednesday 26 November 2014

26nov14 famous five

Well for a today anyway, best of the day was Dave Kingsbury who followed up his 5-1 shot yesterday with a 10-1 winner today to zoom up to 7th and into the cash, Mark Sharman finally hit a winner to nudge up to 4th, Roger kept ahead of him in 3rd with his 4-5 winner, Gary Pascoe and Annette Berg were the other winners also 4-5.  Providing Annette with more ammo in the Berg household as she now sits £4.96 ahead of Paul :-)  Probably best not to mention that on Saturday!

25nov14 sorry for delay

6 winners and a joint best of the day for Annette Berg and Carl Dean both 8-1 neither are challenging although that does move Carl into the top 20.  The leader unwound his extra bet to good effect a nice 5-6 winner to open up a small gap.  Other winners were Martin Long 6-4 handy consolidates his position in the cash but also moves him clear of Vince in their side bet Vince now has to find at least one more winner and it must be above 3-1 to catch him.  Dave Kingsbury's 5-1 winner moved him 11th and in striking distance & Roger Dore's 5-4 winner took him up a place into 3rd.

Monday 24 November 2014

24nov14 Vince wins plate

Not really news but now mathematically certain 48 points clear only 4 bets left, that was after Vince, Justin Sercombe and Martin Long all picked the same 1-2 10 point winner and Barry could only manage 2 points after his 2-9 selection got beaten.  The only other winner was 9-2 for Mark Quinn and this really tightens things up at the top of the leader board Mark still second but if Chris doesn't convert his game in hand that would put them just 18p apart.  There is a £625.00 difference between 1st & 2nd place!

Places pay down to 5th in the plate and 9th in the main comp

Sunday 23 November 2014

23nov14 biggest ever number of winners

14 winners today a total considerably assisted by the fact that every on of the top 6 in the plate did the same 2-11 winner!  But that still leaves another 8 Ian Carpenter claimed best of the day at 6-1 and 4 others all had 4-1 winners, they were Tim Catlin (moved 3rd), Gary Pascoe (moved 5th), Pat Quinn Snr (moved 13th), Paul Berg.  Martin Long & Roger Dore helped their leader board causes with 8-11 winners and finally Neil Harrison 5-6.

Clearly nothing resolved in the plate other than Vince just needs to score one more 10 point winner to be certain of at least a share of top place but Barry would have to straight the final 5 bets and all at 10 points.

22nov14 Sidetracked

By the rugby and drinking so sorry for the late update!

All four of the plate picked the 1-5 10 point winner in the early race at Gowran which probably means they are all now safe for cash and the only question other than their order of finishing is whether Jed Parramore or Chris Pascoe will finish 5th the last cash spot.

7 winners in total so the other 3 were best of the day 9-1 for Dave Barker which was very timely and lifts him to 6th but only 89p off 3rd with 2 games in hand, Neil Harrison &  Jason McConkey both 100-30.

Friday 21 November 2014

21nov14 getting close now

The climax to the comp I mean, will try and start to put up the selections at lunchtime for this last 8 days to add to the thrills :-)

Today saw 6 winners top dog was Carl Dean again too little too late the 12 forced losers really hurting him now hard to win cash giving the field 12 bet start.  Annette Berg and I both had a 9-4 winner and what a winner Niceonefrankie couldn't have won easier today nice horse.  Barry Pemble & Justin Sercombe both had 5-4 5 pointers which moved Justin up a spot to 4th in the plate, and finally Tim Catlin popped in with a late evening 11-10 shot to move up a spot on the main leader board.

20nov14 easy update

Loads chasing long shots coupled with the 2-9 'cert' at Thurles getting turned over means we have just a solitary winner Kevin Dighton 9-4

That's it folks!

Wednesday 19 November 2014

19nov14 Roadchef!!

9 winners today 6 of them were a 10 point special for the plate boys so Barry Pemble, Stuart Bentham, me, Vince Paige, George Casserly & Justin Sercombe all 2-11!  The other 3 were Richard Pascoe 6-1, Carl Dean 10-1 and best of the day, Pat Quinn Snr 4-1,

Tuesday 18 November 2014

18nov14 No girls

Annabelle's flirtation with the leader board only lasted one day as Dave Kingsbury moved 12th with his 9-1 winner.  He was joined on best of the day by both Jimmy McGarrity and Richard Pascoe with the same 9-1 winner.  There were four other winners Chris Pascoe, Barry Pemble and Stuart Bentham all 2-9, and George Casserly  evens.

Monday 17 November 2014

17nov14 The Carpenters

6 Winners Ian Carpenter took top spot 17-2 and Annabelle Carpenter was next best on the day at 11-2 and that meant she has joined the boys on the leader board, OK a fair way of 9th and cash but good stuff.  Vince Paige snapped up a 1-5 shot to extend his lead in the plate after all the others picked the 2-13 shot that got turned over and only scored 1 point.  The other winners were Dave Kingsbury and Kevin Wood both at 7-4 and Gary Pascoe 5-6.

Sunday 16 November 2014

16nov14 Open over

7 winners and the big news is another big best of the day winner for Jon Curtis 10-1 zooms him up to 4th just 1p behind Roger Dore in 3rd level bets that was in fact only joint best of the day as Wayne Morton also captured the same winner.  The 5 other winners were Barry Pemble 2-11 for 5 points and a slight closing of the gap to Vince the leader, Justin Sercombe and Stuart Bentham both 1-6 with Paul Stobbart & Jimmy McGarrity both on 15-8 winners.

Just two weeks left excel on its way

Saturday 15 November 2014

15nov14 hope you were on Sam!

Just 5 winners today and best of thee day was Pete Long indeed on Sam Winner at 15-2, the other 4 were Stuart Bentham 5-6, Roger Dore 5-2, Gary Pascoe 4-6, Chris Pascoe 10-11,

Friday 14 November 2014

Saturday Selections

Just for the visitor looking for some guidance on a tough day at Cheltenham on Saturday or for us oldies Mackeson Gold Cup Day!

12.40 - I quite like Golden Jubilee not run at anything like this level before but shown good form and micro weight probably 10-1 so some room for each way betting

1.15 - no value

1.50 - Sam Winner likes it here and has some good festival form 7-1 so tight for each way for me although if you must do each way then you will still make money

2.30 - The big one, I like John's Spirit another 7-1 shot and ground a bit of a worry but loads of course form and by now you have loads of bookies cash so go for it :-)

FYI each way treble would work nicely 703-1 for the win

14nov14 another just two

Leader pops in a 4-7 winner and Kevin Dighton 7-2 and that was it

Thursday 13 November 2014

13NOV14 JUST TWO

Only 2 winners today from 40 bets best of the day Pat Quinn Jnr 9-2 and Barry Pemble 1-4 5 points in the plate but that's probably simply not enough to claw back a 49 point deficit with only 2 bets in hand now and only 15 to go.

12nov14 late again

10 winners today and just a couple that weren't short priced consolidating/plate winners.  They were best of the day 11-2 for Tim Catlin to go 4th and a 4-1 winner for me that still leaves me outside the top 20 despite 3 from the last 4! & Annette Berg 100-30

Tuesday 11 November 2014

11nov14 busy tonight

so no poncing about 12 winners best of the day and the only one worthy of much comment was 16-1 winner recorded by Jon Curtis to move back onto the leader board in 8th.

Monday 10 November 2014

10nov14 Correction & results

Firstly apologies missed an important winner yesterday for Mark Sharman, proof of the value of reading this - I suppose preaching to the converted if you're reading this :-).  He had an 11-2 winner which is of some significance as it takes him 3rd - sorry

So to today 7 winners - no monsters and mainly the usuals! Annabelle Carpenter 5-4, Barry Pemble, Justin Sercombe, Richard Pascoe & Jed Parramore all 10-11, Chris Pascoe 4-9 and best of the day for Roger Dore at only 6-4 but enough to move him 4th.

Sunday 9 November 2014

09nov14 Another Big Haul

11 winners today and guess who was best of the day for the first time in years me with an 8-1 winner which rushes me up to 29th place :-).  Here goes with the other 10, Paul Berg & Chris Pascoe 100-30 which took Chris to just 8p behind the leader but as he has had 3 extra bets must hold the whip hand.  Gary Pascoe evens, George Casserly 13-8, Jimmy McGarrity 11-4, Jed Parramore & roger Dore 11-8, Martin Long & Mark Quinn 4-5, & finally Pat Quinn Jnr 7-2.

Barry used up one of his in hand bets today and only picked up 1 point looking really tough to get to Vince now.

Excel update on its way

Saturday 8 November 2014

08nov14 what price we would win 5-0!

Sorry Roger (Swindon fan) I did warn you we can get an occasional good performance!

A very good haul today 10 winners in total, best was Dave Kingsbury at 10-1 to go just 27p down and close to the leader board in 13th.  Joint 2nd best were Tim Catlin & Ian Carpenter at 15-2 that took Tim 4th and Ian 42nd :-). Three people picked The Young Master at Wincanton much talk in the media of whether that result would stand as the horse was not qualified to run.  Our rules state that result on the day stands so if it is turned over by the stewards today then Mark Sharman, Richard & Chris Pascoe will all lose their 13-2 winners otherwise it will stand so I have included it as a winner.  There were 4 other winners Vince Paige 11-10,  Stuart Bentham 3-1, Jed Parramore 6-1, and Annette Berg 4-1.

Looks like Vince's 10 point winner and Barry Pemble only managing a 2 point 2nd might mean that's it for the top spot in the plate unless we can talk Vince into messing about trying to win the main comp and that opens the door for Barry - I'll do my best :-)

07nov14 Friday winners

Sorry but another late Friday selection held up blog, but understand you have to pick what you have to pick it was me on Thursday night!

Just 6 winners usual suspects Barry Pemble, Vince Paige, Justin Sercombe and I suppose we should add Annabelle Carpenter to that group as she brings up a 6 timer and 9 from the last 11, so 4-7, 4-7, 4-7 & 2-5 respectively.  Gary Pascoe took the day's honours and 3rd place with his 7-2 winner and that just leaves Martin Long's 9-5 winner good enough to take him to treble figures in the plate and 4th spot in the main

Friday 7 November 2014

06nov14 late night

10 winners so here they all are best of the day to Paul Berg at 10-1 but he still needs a few more like that to trouble the leader board.  Gary Pascoe moved through to 4th with a 7-1 winner and John Heneghan moved 9th with a 9-1 winner, 3 at 11-10 Annabelle Carpenter, Barry Pemble & Justin Sercombe, 2 at 2-5 Kevin Dighton & Stuart Bentham,  final 2 were Vince Paige 6-4 and Wayne Morton 9-4.

All quiet in the plate as they pretty much are all getting winners most of the time

Wednesday 5 November 2014

05nov14 Boom Boom

Lots of winners so just a mention for some nice performers Mark Sharman an early leader finally stops the rot with the best of the day 14-1.  Vince Paige & Annabelle Carpenter both scored 10 points with there 9-4 winner that took Vince nearly 50 points clear and gave Annabelle a 4 timer and 7 from the last 9

Tuesday 4 November 2014

04nov14 slow one

4 just winners today Annabelle Carpenter again at 8-15, Jason McConkey 7-2, Jed Parramore 3-1, & Michael Brook 15-8

Monday 3 November 2014

03nov14 usual Monday

8 winners today Barry Pemble, 1-4 Justin Sercombe 2-7 & Stuart Bentham 2-7 all collected 5 points to reel in Vince a bit in the plate but doesn't look like he has much to worry about.  Annabelle Carpenter kept up her good form 4 from the last 5 but she still sits back down in 24th so plenty still to do.  Other winners were Pat Quinn Snr also in a good patch of form with 4 from the last 6 and sufficient to get him onto the foot of the leader board.  Martin Long followed up with a consolidating 2-7 winner and Roger Dore secured best of the day with just a 7-2 winner but he sits 3rd so the right tactics.  Tim Catlin 11-4 improved his spot with an 11-4 winner

Sunday 2 November 2014

02nov14 Ballyoliver scores for 3

A brand new leader as Mark Quinn, Martin Long, & Terry Matthews all select a 14-1 winner, that brings up a fabulous treble and a commanding lead for Mark Quinn 20-1, 6-1, & 14-1 - hope he has been backing them!  4 people also picked a 1-4 winner they were Vince Paige, Annabelle Carpenter, Jed Parramore & Stuart Bentham, Andy Pitter 100-30 & Gary Pascoe 5-2 were the other winners today.

So the worst the new leader can end up at now is +18.88 probably a bit short of a winning total but nailed on to at least cash.

Saturday 1 November 2014

01nov14 Happy Birthday Me!

Couldn't even celebrate with a winner :-(

In fact not many could as there were only 3 Mark Quinn went 2nd with a 6-1 winner Pat Quinn Snr 11-2 & Rod Brown 9-2 were the others

Friday 31 October 2014

31oct14 Spooky!

Just waiting for Justin who's runs in the last of the day so without him we have 8 winners and a big one!!

Mark Quinn pops in a 20-1 winner to leap up to 4th spot, other winners were me, Barry Pemble & Stuart Bentham all at the princely price of 30-100!! Jed Parramore 8-11, Dave Barker 9-2 to go 3rd, Andy Pitter 3-1 and Annabelle Carpenter 5-6 that brought a double up for them both.

Thursday 30 October 2014

30oct14 ten up

10 winners today three usual suspects on the 2-7 winner namely Vince Paige, Stuart Bentham & Barry Pemble.  Four managed to pick the 11-4 winner Royale Knight they were Gary Pascoe, Pat Quinn Snr, Andy Pitter & Danny Beaman, two picked a 5-4 winner they were Annabelle Carpenter and Jed Parramore and finally there was the best of the day for Terry Matthews at 8-1 only his 2nd winner so still well adrift but a good start.

29oct14 slow

Yesterday's late results now updated and just 4 winners in total, Richard Pascoe was top with his 5-1 winner others were Gary Pascoe & Pat Quinn Snr both 5-4, Jon Curtis 4-1

Tuesday 28 October 2014

28oct14 'arry gets off the mark

8 winners today nothing as meaningful as yesterday though.

Best of the day was recorded by Jon Curtis at 5-1 that took him back to the leader board in 7th, Carl Dean brought up a double with a 7-4 winner, Dave Kingsbury & George Casserly both scored with 2-1 winners, Jason McConkey & Michael Brook both had 11-4 and Stuart Bentham & Martin Long both at 10-11 were the final two winners.

27oct14 best day

Well joint best day of the comp 13 winners that included best of the day 12-1 for Paul Stobbart, 13-2 for Dave Barker & Neil Harrison, the rest were all pretty small odds.

Monday 27 October 2014

26oct14 Massive winner

Roger Dore soared up to 2nd place from 29th after picking a 33-1 winner - nice one

There were 8 other winners so as the excel is just about to be sent out, easiest to let you look it up for yourselves!!

Saturday 25 October 2014

25oct14 big winner

George Casserly topped the poll today with a nice 14-1 winner to move onto the leader board in 11th.  There were 4 other winners Stuart Bentham & Annabelle Carpenter both 13-8 Neil Harrison 7-2 to move him to 10th and finally our leader brought up a 4 timer with a nice 4-7 10 point winner.

24oct14 Chris is back

Chris Pascoe goes back top thanks to his father's horse winning yesterday but canny dad left his own winner alone and picked up the best of the day in the last at Wolverhampton last night and the 8-1 winner lifted him 6 places into 6th.  There were some other winners as well :-)

Wednesday 22 October 2014

22oct14 new leader

Tim Catlin back after a few days of no bets bangs a very nice 15-2 winner in to swap places with Chris Pascoe in first & 2nd.  There were 5 other winners 3 had the 4-9 winner Chris Pascoe, Barry Pemble & Justin Sercombe, Mark Quinn at 11-8 & Annabelle at evens were the others

21oct14 Just Two

On what seemed like a reasonable day it turn out to be very tough 7 guys went down on the same 10-11 favourite at Exeter that got turned over which pretty much left both leader boards unchanged.  The two winners were George Casserly the best of the day 3-1 and Dave Kingsbury 11-4.

Monday 20 October 2014

20oct14 Go Baggies

7 winners today 4 at the same 5-2 price they were Justin Sercombe, Maurice Edgington, Kevin wood, & Jason McConkey, best of the day prize was captured by Gary Pascoe at 7-1 sufficient to bring him back onto the leader board in 10th, and the final two were Jed Parramore 2-5 & Annabelle Carpenter 7-2.

So almost completely static in the plate as the top two sat out

Sunday 19 October 2014

19oct14 The beat goes on

6 winners and we have some very impressive sequences being set by the 'plate boys' 6 winners today and we saw Barry Pemble pick up an 2-11 winner to bring up an 8 timer and 12 from the last 13, Stuart Bentham the same 2-11 winner to bring up a 9 timer, Vince Paige 10 points & 15-8 for his 5 timer and Justin Sercombe also 15-8 for 4 from 6 and arrives in 4th on the plate leader board.   The other two winners were Michael Brook 100-30, and to get off the mark with the best of the day was Kevin Dighton 7-2!

Saturday 18 October 2014

18oct14 Nice day at a warm Cheltenham

8 winners today the 4 usual suspects all picked the 10 point even money winner at Cork they were Vince Paige, Justin Sercombe, Stuart Bentham & Barry Pemble.  The real winners were Jimmy McGarrity & Mark Sharman both nice 6-1 winners, Pat Quinn 5-1, and Annette Berg 15-8.  So on the busiest day so far where all but 4 had a bet honours go to Mark Sharman who rose to 3=.

For info evidence of a flat sport bias was confirmed as the naps were 20 at Ascot & 17 at Cheltenham!

Friday 17 October 2014

17oct14 NH has started!

And with a bang with 3 people all napping the 10-1 winner that was Dave Barker to go 2nd, Mark Quinn to go 7th & Kevin wood who really needed it! 6 other winners Stuart Bentham evens for a 7 timer, Vince Paige and Barry Pemble kept pace with each other with 4-9 winners Andy Pitter 7-2, Danny Beaman 6-4 & the leader also 6-4 to keep up the pressure on the whole field.

Thursday 16 October 2014

160ct14 loads of winners

13 to be precise from 43 bets, so just concentrating on the top ones, best of the day was John Heneghan 10-1 to go joint 2nd with Tim Catlin who along with Pat Quinn Snr both grabbed a 7-1 winner.  The only other worthy of mention was Mark Quinn 9-1 to put him back mid table.

Barry Pemble kept up his record & brought up a 5 timer and Stuart Bentham a 6 timer

Wednesday 15 October 2014

15oct14 double day

One bet to go Martin Long late tonight, so tables over are before that, basically loads of winners Tuesday 11, and today 9 so far. Picking out some highlights Stuart Bentham picked a double to bring up a 5 timer, Gareth Chapman back after a string of forced losers also picked two winners, 11-10 & 3-1.  Other doubles were recorded by Dave Kingsbury, Danny Beaman & Barry Pemble who now has recorded 8 from his nine last bets.

Best odds were Tuesday 6-1 Danny Beaman, 15-2 Mark Quinn & Wednesday 4-1 Danny Beaman again! But best of all was Pete Long who got off the mark with a 8-1 winner

Tuesday Delayed

Sorry everyone left my laptop at my final meeting yesterday and had to go back and get it :-(

Will do a double day tonight - I hope

Monday 13 October 2014

13oct14 leader wins big

Just 6 winners today but joint best at 8-1, was Chris Pascoe and Kevin Roberts which saw Kevin move 3rd & 6th and Chris extend his lead and go 2nd that's in the main and plate respectively.  The other four were Stuart Bentham Rod Brown, Robert Baker & Justin Sercombe

Sunday 12 October 2014

12oct14 Go Lewis & England

Just 5 winners today from 42 bets so the tough times continue.  Best of the day was Wayne Morton with a nice 6-1 winner, followed closely by Neil Harrison and Dave Kingsbury at 9-2 who spotted that Aiyana was the only horse in the jump jockeys flat race who was ridden by a flat jockey and that must have been a big help on a tough track like Goodwood.  The final two were Barry Pemble 6-4 who finished off a pretty good week for him getting 6 from 7 and scoring 40 points, & Chris Pascoe 1-2 a nice consolidating bet for the leader.

Saturday 11 October 2014

11oct14 last bet of the day shoots in

Spenser Mills the last nap of the day picks a 10-1 winner to move up to 6th on what up to that point had been a pretty ordinary day with only 6 winners from 43 bets.  The other 5 were Barry Pemble, Gary Pascoe & Stuart Bentham all 7-4, with Ken Jones & Pat Quinn Snr both 2-1.

A few points scraped up among the leaders of the plate Barry closed the gap by another few points with his 5 points.

Friday 10 October 2014

10oct14 Just 4

Very tough day if you use our performance as a guide only 4 from 43 they were best of the day John Heneghan 7-1 to move 5th, Andy Stevens rose back onto the leader board in 11th with a 4-1 winner.  Richard Pascoe 100-30 & Stuart Bentham 8-15 were the only other 2.

What happened at York my nap Bogart Jockey somehow allowed the horse to get its head in the stall next door and when they let them go horse couldn't move finally got head out horse shot off and she fell off meanwhile field is at the 2 pole! just about sums up my performance in the comp

Thursday 9 October 2014

09oct14 Impressive day

Joint best of the day for two guys who also got off the mark and in some style with 14-1 winners and who were they Roger Dore & David Sharman who both move from joint nearly last to 19th=.  Mark Sharman returned to 2nd place with an 8-1 winner just 26p off the lead.  Other winners were Barry Pemble & Justin Sercombe both now in the grove for the plate 5 point 1-3 winners, Neil Harrison 7-2 to move 21st, Ken Jones 11-4, & Gary Pascoe 11-10.

Barry moves above me into 5th in the plate and sits 49 points behind the leader with 7 bets in hand

Wednesday 8 October 2014

08oct14 the last two days

In summary:
Tuesday 31 bets 10 winners - best Jed Parramore & Gary Pascoe 3-1
Wednesday 38 bets 6 winners - best Jimmy McGarrity 13-2

Overall highlights were Vince Paige, Barry Pemble & Jed Parramore all had 2 from 2 with Vince's bringing up a 5 timer 4 of them 10 pointers, hence his massive lead in the Plate, but notice the defending champ Barry Pemble first appearance in the top 6.

07oct14 delayed update

Sorry away in London yesterday it will be a double update tonight

Monday 6 October 2014

06oct14 big winner

But very little else Tim Catlin popped up with a 20-1 winner today to move 2nd and the only others were Chris Pascoe 4-5 and Barry Pemble 5-1.

Vince sat out in the plate so Martin's loser made things better anyway

Sunday 5 October 2014

05oct14 Fantastic Treve

What a horse after all the problem this year.  But meanwhile back at Kelso and Huntingdon we managed 7 winners on a slightly slow day.  Chris Pascoe the leader is obviously in consolidation mode now as he picked a 2-11 winner! Jason McConkey & Rod Brown scored with 2-1 winners, Jed Parramore & Robert Baker both 8-13, Vince Paige 5-6, so that leaves Spenser Mills as best of the day with a nice 7-1 winner to sit 13th, one off the leader board, on +3.53.

Vince moved to a full 20 points clear in the plate and Gareth Chapman on the leader board is making it tough for himself to stay there as he joined Lee Constable as being dormy today.

Saturday 4 October 2014

04oct14 Quality days racing

And we managed 9 winners between us, best of the day was Tim Catlin 13-2 others were Annette Berg & Dave Kingsbury both 7-4, 4 selected the racing post trophy winner 10 points and 6-5 they were Vince Paige, Chris Pascoe, Justin Sercombe & Paul Stobbart, Dave Barker moved up a spot or two with a 7-2 winner.  Kevin Roberts 5-2 was the final winner to move 4th.

With all those 10 point winners 3 new appearances on the leader board in the plate and Vince moved further clear.

03oct14 usual Friday night delay!

All ready to upload the results after the afternoons racing and we have two people with late evening runners - clearly not going to ponce around doing the blog on a Friday night and miss important drinking time so expect morning updates when people do that :-)

Anyway a very tough day only 3 winners (but we did get 11 seconds) from a total of 39 selections.  Joint best of the day was Vince Paige with a sparkling, if lucky, 10 point 9-2 winner and Andy Stevens also 9-2 the only other winner was Jason McConkey 13-8.

So with 10 points for Vince and Martin's UR at Wolverhampton on the flat! Vince storms clear at the top.

Friday 3 October 2014

02oct14 Well Done Gary

Gary Pascoe's horse scored a resounding win today in the handicap chase at Warwick - Gary any chance you could get that entered for a race at Towcester when we are all there?  Anyway 3 people napped it Chris Pascoe, Spenser Mills & Michael Brook and Gary didn't but he still had a winner at 2-1.  There were 5 other winners all at pretty short prices they were, Annette Berg & Dave Kingsbury both at 13-8, Annabelle Carpenter 3-1, Jed Parramore 1-4, & Stuart Bentham 4-6.

Wednesday 1 October 2014

01oct14 Nice One Dave

Joint best of the day today 5-1 for Chris Pascoe to go 3rd and Gareth Chapman to go 10th and that's 3 for 4 for Gareth his only problem is his lack of bets he is almost dormy already with only 2 spare left.  These two were closely followed by me with a rare 4-1 winner and Jason McConkey 11-4, in addition there were 5 others all short priced, Andy Stevens and George Casserly 4-6, ken Jones, Robert Baker, & Wayne Morton all 4-9.

In the plate the leaders both missed out except for the odd single point for Martin and I moved 3rd in a very tight scrap for the minor places.

Tuesday 30 September 2014

30sep14 little ordinary day

6 winners Annabelle Carpenter 6-4, Danny Beaman best of the day 4-1, Martin Long 11-4, Neil Harrison 4-5 & Paul Berg 6-4 with the very impressive Creepy looks like a chaser to follow.

In the plate Vince managed to not lose ground as he picked up a 5 point 2nd as the top two surge clear

Monday 29 September 2014

29sep14 Monday

A very respectable 11 winners so just the highlights which were Andy Pitter & Jimmy McGarrity 3-1, best of the day 7-1 for John Heneghan to go 5th, and Kevin Roberts brought up a 5 timer with his even money winner.

In the plate both leaders had a winner but Vince's was 5 points so he gained a couple

Sunday 28 September 2014

28sep14 how bad were the USA!

5 winners from 30 bets today three people nabbed the same 10 point 2-1 winner Vince Paige, Martin Long & Justin Sercombe, best of the day was Mark Sharman 13-2 to take over at the top and finally Kevin Roberts 7-2 to bring up a very impressive 4 timer and to take him 4th.

In the plate with the top two both scoring 10 points there is a bit of a gap opening up from the rest of the field

Saturday 27 September 2014

27sep14 tough day

Illustrating this perfectly is the performance of the 8 different horses napped in the Cambridgeshire today at Newmarket, best was 5th then 13th, 17th, 23rd, 25th, 26th, 27th, 31st & last, call ourselves followers :-).

However some did find a winner but the best of the day was only 7-2 from Dave Barker but enough for him to just get above Jon Curtis and snatch top slot.  Kevin Roberts also rose a place with his 6-4 winner the same winner as Barry Pemble, Jason McConkey picked an 11-4 winner to move level and back into the top half and finally Carl Dean 15-8 jut not quite enough to bring him back to the leader board.

All the above is before John Heneghan's late runner at Wolverhampton tonight.

26sep14 nice couple

Sorry for the delay big event in London last night

8 winners from 39 bets on Friday best of the day for new boy Kevin Roberts at 12-1 that rocketed him up to 7th,  Danny Beaman 7-1 was a nice start as he got off the mark.   Dave Kingsbury 9-2 to go positive, 4 others picked Lucida the even money winner they were Gareth Chapman (to maintain his 100% record and sit 2 for 2), Ian Carpenter, Jed Parramore, & Robert Baker.  finally Wayne Morton got off the mark with a 2-1 winner.

In the plate all a bit static again except for Robert Baker's appearance in 3rd

Thursday 25 September 2014

25sep14 new leader

Jon Curtis tops the best of the day and also the main leader board, after a very nice 12-1 winner, Joanne Hutson's 8-1 winner took her onto the bubble in 10th, and Andy Pitter picked up a nice 6-1 winner that took him nearly level.  Terry Matthews got off the mark with a 3-1 winner and the final 3 winners of the 7 recorded today were all on the same 11-8 winner, and they were Chris Pascoe, Paul Stobbart, & Robert Baker who brought up a nice 4 timer.

In the plate little action to report other than Paul Stobbart taking over in 3rd from me

Wednesday 24 September 2014

24sep14 bumper numbers

12 winners in total with just one late evening bet to come Gareth Chapman but given his position and the number of runners he can't change either leader board.   Best of the day by miles was Paul Stobbart with his 9-1 winner that took him from the foot of the leader board this morning to 3rd.  Gary Pascoe and Pat Quinn Jnr both picked up a 4-1 winner and basically all the rest were small prices with 6 of us all on the same 4-5 winner Grandeur at Goodwood.

In the plate I scrapped 3rd place from Dave Barker on count back and Barry Pemble the defending champion got off the mark with his first winner to move into the top half.

Tuesday 23 September 2014

23sep14 a fair few

9 winners today from 39 bets three of us picked 5-6 winner Andy Stevens, me & Robert Baker, and another three picked a 13-8 winner Richard Pascoe, Neil Harrison,& Gareth Chapman.  Pat Quinn Snr's 9-2 winner took him onto the leader board, Mark Quinn got off the mark with a 4-1 winner and best of the day was 8-1 Michael Brook who moved up to 8th.

Monday 22 September 2014

22sep14 new leader

6 winners today with Pat Quinn Snr at 7-2 taking the honours.  Martin Long & Neil Harrison both 11-10, Paul Berg & new boy Jason McConkey both with a 9-4 winner and finally Dave Barker whose 15-8 winner was enough to bring him top spot on the main leader board.

In the plate a few scored but no alteration in the positions of the top 6

Sunday 21 September 2014

21sep14 first week done

7 winners again today for the fourth day in a row! Joint best of the day was a lowly 5-2 for Ian Carpenter and Tim Catlin as they both got off the mark.  Others were Maurice Edgington (me), Spenser Mills & Paul Stobbart all 11-8, Robert Baker evens, & Vince Paige 8-13.  So all that left the leader boards pretty unaltered.

Vince's 10 point winner enabled him to close the gap right down on Martin Long who could only finish 5th

Wigmore Hall

Risking controversy can I make some comments:

If you don't want pictures of horses with a gun held to their head being taken and published then stop going around racecourse with guns doing that.  Remove the horse in the ambulance and deal with it with some privacy and after some reflection not in the heat of the moment.

The sport we love does not exist in a bubble and it has to be prepared to modify its behaviour to what society regards as the current norms of decency and care for the animals it races.  It is simply not good enough to say we look after thousands of horses to the very highest standard and be seen to be dealing with a difficult problem like this.

The fact that we look after them to the highest standard must and should be a given and should not be trotted out as some sort of justification for this.

I'm not suggesting there are not circumstances where animals need to be put down but having seen the pictures I'm pretty convinced that isn't how to do it, but even if I was the point is that society isn't so changes need to be made.

Saturday 20 September 2014

20sep14 Gordon please shut up!

7 winners from 41 bets today best of the day trophy goes to Dave Barker with his silver cup winner 9-1 that shoots him up to 2nd place in the main comp and 3rd in the plate - nice one.  Others recording winners were Annabelle Carpenter 13-8, Jed Parramore 13-8, Michael Brook off the mark with a 7-2 shot, Martin Long again! 11-4, Paul Stobbart brings up an 11-4 double and finally Vince Paige 9-4 to move him 2nd in the plate.

Just one person left to have a bet Gareth Chapman so when he does we can confirm prizes

Friday 19 September 2014

19sep14 Big Double

Joint top best of the day for Chris Pascoe & John Heneghan at 14-1 which of course took them both to the up echelons of the leader board.  Carl Dean 5-6, Jon Curtis & Mark Sharman both 3-1,  Robert Baker 30-100 and finally 5-4 for Martin Long to bring up his 5th winner.

In the plate Martin forged a bit further clear on 27 points 11 clear.

Thursday 18 September 2014

18sep14 could be a famous day

34 bets and 7 winners best of the day for Jon Curtis who had his first winner at 8-1 and it was the first 10 pointer of the comp so it took him up on to both leader boards.  Three picked the 9-10 winner at Listowel Vince Paige, Spenser Mills & Jed Parramore.   Annabelle Carpenter got off the mark with a 2-1 winner as did Andy Stevens at the first time of asking with his even money shot.  Kevin wood's 9-2 winner also took him onto both leader boards.

Martin Long slipped up for the first time only recording a 2 point second but remains 9 points clear.

29nov Towcester trip update

End of comp trip to Towcester on 29th November is a definite, deposits paid, and we are above minimum numbers.  We are intending to sponsor a race in Steve Walton's name (probably the bumper) and award a trophy to the winning connections and the best turned out and hopefully invite them up to our box for a drink or two to celebrate their win.

Still spaces available if you are interested just contact Vince or me, we will be able to amend the numbers probably up to the end of next month, but there is a maximum of around 50.

Gary, think you should buy a nice little French import 3yo so we have a runner!!

17sep14 Bye Bye have a good one!

New Leader & a smaller nation!  Mark Sharman takes over at the top with a nice 13-2 winner best of the five winners today.  Martin Long 11-8 kept up his 100% record and now is 4 from 4 Spenser Mills got off the mark and made it straight onto the leader board with his 7-4 winner, Colin Warmington 2-1 and Dave Barker 7-4 were the other two winners.

Martin striking out manfully at the early stages of the plate!

Tuesday 16 September 2014

16sep14 First Proper Day

30 bets and 10 winners joint best of the day were Mark Sharman & Dave Barker at 8-1, Martin Long kept up his 100% record going 3 for 3, Vince Paige, Kevin Wood & Gary Pascoe all picked the same 10-11 winner as him.  Others recording wins were Jo Hutson 2-1 to go back to level, Paul Stobbart got off the mark with a 11-4 winner as did Paul Berg with his 100-30 winner, finally Mark Quinn joined the party with his 6-4 winner.

We now have 49 players enrolled 3 left to pay with 3 more to chase so won't be far short of last comp so expect similar prizes which will be confirmed when the last of the cash arrives.  Still 9 left to have their first bet.

Monday 15 September 2014

15sep14 Slow

Just 22 bets and 2 winners Martin Long went top in the plate with his 2nd winner at 1-2 and Lee Constable got off the mark with an 11-4 winner.

Sunday 14 September 2014

14sep14 Quiet Day

Watch out guys many fewer spare days in this comp to allow for then special finishing day at Towcester on 29th November.  So you only have 17 spare days in total and there are still 20 out of 48 players yet to have a bet so they are already down to just 15 spares left.

Today just 19 bets and a very reasonable return of 7 winners pretty much because of one horse Customary Glance that won the Group 1 at the Curragh at 11-8 for 5 of us that is, Martin Long, Kevin Wood, Jimmy McGarrity, Maurice Edgington, & Stuart Bentham.  Other winners were Carl Dean best of the day and 2 from 2 with a 11-4 winner and Vince also got off the mark with a 1-3 shot.

13sep14 First Day Winner

24 bets on the opening day and 3 winners Pete Feeney the star with 14-1 winner George Casserly an old naps comp friend returned to the fold and went 2nd with his 4-1 winner and lastly Carl Dean 3-1.

Obviously those three top the plate!

Saturday 13 September 2014

FIRST NAP WAS

Mark Sharman took the honour of the opening nap to be received Snow Sky in the Ledger at Donny today

Unfortunately for him Romsdal will win that!!

Friday 12 September 2014

WERE OFF - COMP STARTS TOMORROW

We are starting the 37th comp tomorrow we have 44 confirmed so far so a little bit down on last time so far but Vince & I will be doing a final chase around this weekend so see if we can get it up to 50.

If you know anyone then now is the time to get them across the line.

Good luck everyone - will send first update week Sunday

Sunday 24 August 2014

Steve

As I'm sure you are all now aware Steve Walton very sadly passed away recently, a great mate and one of the 3 Naps Comp founders!

His funeral is this Friday and I think we all need a little time to pass before starting the next comp, please bare with us we will pick things up again in September.

No doubt many of us will be there on Friday so we can reminisce and remember our fond memories of Steve together then.

FUTURE COMP DATES

General thought process is like this:

Want to end a comp at Punchestown Festival 2015 so if we pick the Friday of that meeting which is 01may15 that gives us a start date of 31jan15.   As we want to have a break now across the summer holiday period we will only be able to fit in one more comp in 2014.  So picking the Hennessy at end of November as the finishing venue means we need to start next comp at the end of August.  Summary is:

#37 start 31aug14 to Saturday 29nov14 (Hennessy Day - Newbury)
#38 start 31jan15 to Friday 01may15 (Irish Champion Hurdle Day - Punchestown)

Get these dates in the diary!!

Napscomps racing tours will swing into action and begin planning the Punchestown trip in the Autumn you will all get details of the options for a group trip then.

09jun14 FINAL DAY REVIEW

Firstly Congratulations to Pat Quinn Jnr imperious in the main comp and a very worthy winner & to Barry Pemble fantastic run in 12 winners from his last 14 bets, Vince did well to even take it down to the last day with form like that.

A lot of winners for the last day 8 in total including both winners above and Tim Catlin & Dave Barker both 4-1 sufficient for them both to move past Gary Pascoe who shot for the stars and missed! The other 4 winners were Tom Feeney 4-1, Stuart Bentham 10-11, Justin Sercombe 13-8, & 2nd place Dave Kingsbury 7-4.  Need to mention John Hall in dispatches here who's 50-1 selection finished 3/4l away in 2nd and we all thought the jockey just hadn't gone through with it in the last 75 yards!

Good turn out for the final day bash at Windsor last night many pictures to follow but here is Mark Quinn Accepting the cup, from last times winner Jimmy McGarrity, on behalf of his brother Pat Quinn Jnr who couldn't be with us - sheltering from the downpour that started at the just before the end of the festivities

Mention for Steve Walton who missed his first end of comp bash as he is ill in hospital - you were missed & get well soon from us all.

08jun14 penultimate day

Just 2 winners today and not often the best of the day is odds on but Gary Pascoe's 9-10 dead heat winner and 10 points was enough to win him the 5th spot in the plate from me and also to move 4th in the main comp.  The other winner was Stuart Bentham 4-5.

So in the plate Barry needs just a single point from his last bet to be sure of top spot after Vince failed to score and exactly the same applies to Martin long in the battle for 3rd spot with Justin.

The top 3 in the main comp are fairly spread out so most of the tactics will be for the boys in 4th through 6th, unless like most of us they look for a 66-1 winner!

07jun14 Aussie Rules

Just two winners today and they were Barry Pemble & me, we both picked Australia 11-8 and 10 points.  That was enough to lift Barry one place in the main comp and as disaster struck for Vince at Limerick his horse was a late non-runner Barry also went 7 clear in the plate.  Gary Pascoe missed and so my 10 points brought me to within 4 of him with just the final 2 bets to go - all to play for.

06jun14 Majestic

You heard it here first in April that Taghrooda would win the Oaks and she did handsomely for me today at 5-1 and (10-1 ante post) for me to claim the best of the day.  There were only four other winners Tim Catlin brought up his treble with a 2-1 winner not enough to catch Gary Pascoe because he captured a 5-2 winner to go tied 4th with Dave Barker (remember no tie breaker prizes are split).  The other two winners were Barry Pemble with a cert 5 point winner at 1-4 to make sure he asks the questions of Vince who answered with aplomb with a 10 point winner to go top

Windsor final day

Don't forget final day at Windsor on Monday, time of first race of the 6 race card is at 6.20pm and there are a fair few of us going we should be easy to spot - check out photo gallery on the right!  If you haven't already spoken with Vince or me let us know if you intend coming.

We will leave the cut off for selections on the final day at 1.30pm and I will upload everyone's selections on the blog before I leave for the course.  We will update the table in real time on course - with a pen :-)

This is the scene in August 2002 of the famous 66-1 winner Sea Danzig selected by Steve Walton to steal the win on the last day so don't give up hope!

Remember you can't nap in any race that starts after the last at Windsor (that means no naps in the last races at both Pontefract & Roscommon) - that is so we can award the cup while we are on course.

Pat - bring plenty of cash for the celebrations :-)

05jun14 no news

Not much to say really only 2 winners mainly a factor of loads of players going for last minute long shots.  Tim Catlin did best with a 4-1 winner to steal 6th place from Martin Long and the only other winner was Carl Dean 8-11.

Very cagey in the plate as all the top three sat out and went dormy at least that tactic is out the was it is a straight shoot off each day - may the best man win eh Barry!

Wednesday 4 June 2014

04jun14 he's fallible!

10 winners today Pete Long takes the best of the day award with a 9-1 winner still needs a few more of those!  Tim Catlin probably has the best result however with a 9-2 winner to move back up to 7th.  Four guys had the 4-6 winner in the bumper at Punchestown at 4-6 and 10 points they were (as if you couldn't guess) Barry, Vince, Justin, and Gary Pascoe.  That leaves just 4 others Chris Pascoe brought up a treble with an 8-11 winner, Dave Kingsbury closed the gap on the leader a touch with his 5-2 winner, Ian Carpenter 9-2 too little too late, and finally Rod Brown 9-2 moving into the top half.

I think Gary Pascoe can consider he has wrapped up the final cash spot (5th) with his 10 points to my 2 and he now sits 14 clear level bets, but as I have the winner of both of the weekend's classics Fascinating Rock and Taghrooda (got 10-1 ante post in April) I'm not giving up :-)

03jun14 no superlatives left

For Pat Quinn Jnr of course, best of the day winner at 11-4 is just taking the piss! 8 winners in a row and 9 from the last 10. There were 7 other winning bets and 5 of them involved the main comp leader board but no-one changed position! We had Barry Pemble 8-11, Chris Pascoe 8-13, Martin Long 11-8, Tom Feeney 5-4 and Gary Pascoe 5-4, the others were Stuart Bentham 8-11 and Annette Berg 5-2 closing in on Paul!

In the plate Vince sat out and allowed Barry to catch up his bet in hand, Barry duly obliged with a 5 pointer to move 2 clear at the top.  I did the same to get Gary to do the same and he score a vital 3 points and now sits 6 clear of me level bets. All to play for that's if Pat stops winning at some point of course, or we will both miss out!

02jun14 top stuff in the plate

8 winners today 4 of them were the same horse 6-4 10 pointer for me, Barry, Vince & Justin, so that really put the pressure on Gary who went for another 10 pointer in a much tougher race and pulled it off great tipping 5-1 winner to move up 2 spots and I expect pleasingly now above Martin Long!  There were 3 other winners Chris Pascoe 1-2 but made him a place, Jed Parramore 7-4 that also made him a place and finally Stuart Bentham 100-30 who has got going a bit of late but too late.

01jun14 quiet day

5 winners today Martin Long of most significance his 9-4 winner lifted him a couple of places into 5th, best of the day was Richard Pascoe 8-1 but he is still well down as that was only his 3rd winner, Ina Carpenter 4-11, and the boys got back on track (Vince & Barry) both picked the same horse that won at 1-3.

31may14 go George

Well Pat didn't have a winner - he sat out!!  6 did though and they were Dave Kingsbury in 2nd 3-1 to just about secure 2nd in ordinary circumstances, best of the day by miles for Pete Feeney 12-1 in the York Scoop6 sprint a v tough race.  Other were Jimmy McGarrity 6-1, Terry Matthews 11-10, Jed Parramore & Ian Carpenter both 7-2.

In the plate Barry & Vince picked different horses and unusually they both pulled up LoL. Gary pulled a point further clear of me as we went head to head so neither of us closed the gap on Pat Quinn Jnr :-(
