31mar13 another toughie

Only 3 winners today from 40 bets and the best was Kevin Wood with a nice 4-1 10 pointer over in Ireland, other winners were Steve Walton 2-1 and Pete Long got off the mark with an 11-8 winner looks like game on then!

So in the plate Kevin Wood's winner improved things for him at bit in 3rd spot as everyone else came 2nd and only scored 2 points except for Ian Carpenter who had a NR.

Excel on its way

30mar13 Lousy Lincoln

Sorry for the delay out last night running charity quiz!

What I mean by lousy was that we had about 16 bets selected in the Lincoln on 9 different horses and best we managed was one 3rd!  Overall obviously a tough day only 4 winners on two different horses they were 5-2 for Roger Dore & Mark Sharman (nicely consolidated in 4th now) and Vince Paige & Justin Sercombe on the same 11-10 winner.

In the plate Kevin Wood & I missed out while Justin & Vince picked up 5 points each

Friday 29 March 2013

29mar13 blank day

Actually why is there no racing?  However a nice easy update just need to report the 6 people who have now gone dormy because of the blank day today they are:

Lee Constable
Joanne Hutson
Jon Curtis
Paul Creed
Kevin Dighton
Jake Fifield

Total of 14 players now dormy

28mar13 new faces

Hopeful that we will be getting the start of a whole new section of racing guys joining us for the next comp I have been asked if some folks from the Wincanton/Somerset area who are retired if they can join.  They are being bought an entry as presents from loving children!  A policy many of us are keen to be adopted by our own offspring :-).  Actually what a great fathers day present this would be - spread the word!

Following on from yesterday (and Pete has thrown down the challenge) try, zippo, failed to trouble the scorers, the big goose egg, left at the gate, shutout - Oh that will do!

So Thursday's racing just 3 winners best was, rather ominously, Paul Berg who moves into 7th with a 7-1 winner, not sure we will be able to cope with him winning a 3rd time especially as he is on the Punchestown trip. Other winners were Alan Mabb 3-1 and a nice 100-30 for Bert Peart who has changed tactics now he is near the top and is consolidating nicely, that winner moves him 2nd.

In the plate three bets and no-one scored even a point as all the selections failed to finish

Wednesday 27 March 2013

27mar13 1-1 what a joke

5 winners today to bring up the cumulative 400th winner of the comp, the headline billing goes to Roger Dore at 5-1, closely followed by Mark Nutting at 9-2, which takes him to +£2.00 and 15th place.  Others were me at 11-8, the new leader, Ian Carpenter, at 10-11 and Jo Hutson with a very significant winner on 2 counts firstly the lowest price for a very long time 1-20 but also much more amusingly that winner means that Peter Long :-) is now the only player without a win.  Yep zero, nul pointe, zilch, bugger all, not a sausage - I'll think up some more for tomorrow! Lets hope he keeps that up until the Punchestown trip I'm sure we won't mention it much if that were to happen

In the plate I was the only winner but no change in the order.

Tuesday 26 March 2013

26mar13 England

Missing the game to do this update! 10 winners and a new leader.  In fact all of the top four had winners today but Lee Constable's 5-2 winner was not enough to cope with the 20-1 winner found by Ian Carpenter to take over at the top.  Other highlights were the 9-2 winner from Jimmy McGarrity (now on the bubble in 13th) and Wayne Morton and also Annette Berg went positive on +21p in 18th after her 9-4 winner.  A total of 10 winners in total from 40 bets.

Still not much action from the Plate boys except for Justin's small winner and 5 points took him 2nd.

Monday 25 March 2013

25mar13 come on spring

28 bets and just 3 winners and two of them on the leader board or well they are now! Martin Sharman hits a 20-1 winner at the sole meeting today and leaps up to 7th place, Colin Warmington arrests the slide at last to stay on the foot of the leader board with a 6-4 winner and Jed Parramore also 6-4.

In the plate the only player again today on the leader board to have a bet was was Ian Carpenter who crept 1 point closer to his century.

Wayne Morton went dormy today and the following three are effectively dormy now when we use up their last spare day on Good Friday, they are the leader Lee Constable, Paul Creed, & Kevin Dighton.

Sunday 24 March 2013

24mar13 in between the snow

Much better performance by us all today 10 winners in total too many to mention them all so best were the 10-1 winner of the Irish Lincoln selected by Gary Pascoe and Celeste Beaty, closely followed by the 7-1 winner for Jimmy McGarrity.

In the plate Vince kept up the pace with a 5 point winner after sitting out all week also selected by Barry Pemble and Justin Sercombe, while Kevin Wood and I brought up last and 3rd last in the Lincoln so failed to score - obviously!

Excel will be sent shortly - Daniel Billingham and Ken Jones both went dormy today.

Saturday 23 March 2013

23mar13 just me then

Just one winner and it was me 6-4 and 3 points.  So no changes on the leader boards of any significance other than it looks like I will have to accept missing the cash in the plate and finishing on the bubble, not quite given up but looks pretty inevitable.

Below is a list of players close to dormy with number of spare bets left after today - but remember Good Friday has no racing so everyone needs a spare day for that.

(already dormy Colin Warmington, Mark Dighton, Val Impey, Johnny Lynch, Alan Daniels)

Lee Constable (2)
Jon Curtis (3)
Annette Berg (4)
Daniel Billingham (1)
Ken Jones (1)
Rod Brown (2)
Wayne Morton (2)
Paul Creed (1)
Kevin Dighton (2)
Joanne Hutson (2)

If you are not on this list then you have at least 6 spare days left

22mar13 late

Sorry late but went out and my nap didn't run until 8.30pm.  Anyway just two winners Bert Peart 6-1 to go 2nd and Barry Pemble 6-4 to go 11th.

Not much more to say

Still easy to update today (Saturday) with only 7 races to choose from :-)

Thursday 21 March 2013

21mar13 what rubbish

Is this a poor weeks racing or what? still today we got a little better with 7 winners from 35 bets.  Best of the day billing goes to Mark Nutting for the second time in a week with a 13-2 winner to lift him into a profit and 17th place but only £3.50 from the leader board.  Other were Wayne Morton & Julian Ciampioli 4-1, Gareth Chapman & Roger Dore 5-2, Adam Slater 10-11 and making sure of a winner Justin Sercombe 2-11.

In the plate Justin's 2-11 winner was the only winner among the leading 5 as everyone else sat out. For a 2-11 shot it only just made it and as one was withdrawn at the start ended up with only 7 runners!

Wednesday 20 March 2013

20mar13 short lived

The better performance that is only 2 winners today from 35 bets they were Paul Berg 14-1 to just make it onto the leader board for the first time this comp in 11th.  Other winner was 6-4 for Celeste Beaty.

In the plate all but Barry Pemble sat out again Barry scored 2 points in a competitive race.

Tuesday 19 March 2013

19mar13 that's better

8 winners today from 29 bets so obviously an easier day! Stand out performance was Mark Sharman 12-1 to zoom up the leader board to go 2nd and just £4.75 behind the leader.  But although Lee Constable has that £4.75 cushion he is hard up against dormy territory with only 3 spare bets and needs to have 11 more than Mark, so for me Mark is probably in the better position.  Gary Dighton scored a 6-1 winner but still sits just off the bottom, Mark Quinn 4-1 and he is down there with Gary just one place above him in 51st.  Other winners were Kevin Hall 9-4, Scott Bennett 2-1, Ian Carpenter & Martin Long 1-2, and finally, clearly very keen to bring up his treble, was Stuart Bennett with a 2-11 winner.

In the plate everyone on the leader board sat out apart from Ian Carpenter who scored 3 points for his winner.

Alan Daniels had his first forced loser today after going dormy yesterday

Monday 18 March 2013

18mar13 Rio its over!

Another low scorer we haven't got above 3 winners for the last 5 days!  Today top was 7-1 for Mark Dighton closely followed by Kevin Wood's nice 10 point 6-1 winner, that takes them both to the same position give or take at £3.00 down.  The other winner was Stuart Bentham who is starting to rise up both tables now sits just 12p down.

In the plate clearly a great day for Kevin as he moved 2nd all the rest scored a single point after favourites got turned over at Navan.

Punchestown Festival Races

Check out the link from Vince below for the race order at Punchestown

Sunday 17 March 2013

17mar13 slow v slow

Stuart Bentham 3-1 and Bert Peart 2-1 were the only winners from a very low 19 runners today. So Bert's winner helped his cause a bit in 2nd closing the gap to less than £10.00.

In the plate the current top 4 all did the same horse that finished 2nd for 5 points, each enabling Barry Pemble to regain 4th from me after mine fell at the last when leading earlier at Wexford :-(

Mark Dighton went dormy after yesterday and so had his first loser today, joining Val Impey & Johnny Lynch.

Excel update on its way

16mar13 Disaster in Cardiff

What else is there to say I have never seen a team I'm supporting play as bad.

Very quite day only 28 bets and just 3 winners Alan Slater did best with a 9-4 winner and Vince Paige & Kevin Wood both got the same 4-5 winner

In the plate Justin Sercombe and I both scored 5 point second so with Vince & Kevin both also scoring 5 point for their winner not much change except for Barry Pemble who's 3rd place 1 pointer cost him 4th.

Friday 15 March 2013

15mar13 Best of the week

I think the general view was that we saw the best performance of the week today when Our Conor won the Triumph Hurdle, spectacular, and he is now 2nd favourite at only 5-1 (Bet 365) for 2014 Champion Hurdle!!

Another very sparse day only 3 winners Ted Veale for Mark Nutting at 10-1 and Annette Berg & I both on Bob's Worth at 11-4 was all there was. Interesting (mainly for me) that I was the only person to have two winning naps at Cheltenham mildly pleasing!

In the plate everyone sat out apart from me so I gained 5 points on those above me.  An amusing pass time for those of us uninvolved watching the sitting out tactics of the plate big guns, I offered Vince 2-5 (now 30-100) that he wouldn't win and judging by how determined the three below him sound that might be very tight!!

Thursday 14 March 2013

14mar13 only one

Well two winners in total today but only one at Cheltenham, that was Gareth Chapman with 16-1 winner Same Difference, the other was over at Towcester at 8-11 for Jed Parramore.  So apart from Gareth rising up to 7th almost everybody else has dropped £2.00 over the last two days as there were only 4 winners yesterday and again only one person, Martin Long, managed a winner at Cheltenham this time 7-2.

In the plate no-one has scored and so Justin has banked a couple of bets in hand as he has been sitting out.

Wednesday 13 March 2013

Day 2 Cheltenham Selections

Only showing those with more than 1

4 - Pont Alexandre (2.05)

3- Saphir Du Rheu (4.40)
3- Chatterbox (2.05)

2- Ericht, Master of the Sea (4.00)
2- Bordoni (4.40)
2- Sgt Reckless (5.15)

Must be hard today!

Tuesday 12 March 2013

12mar13 plenty of losers

Didn't really see a great day for the naps comp as you can tell by the selections in the post below.  However the leader had a good one picking (as did Paul Creed) the best winner of the day at 5-1.  there were 9 winners in all but as 5 of them were Quevega at 8-11 no great movements on the leader board.  As if you couldn't basically guess the 5 picking the 8-11 10 point cert were Barry Pemble, Justin Sercombe, Kevin Wood, Chris Pascoe & Vince Paige.  Other winners were me 8-15 Ian Carpenter 2-1 to move 7p above me!

So in the plate the top 4 have opened a small gap from me in 5th (the bubble) as i only collected 3 points and they all banked 10.

Day 1 Cheltenham Selections

Only showing those with more than 1

5- Quevega (4.40)

4 - Shangani (5.15),
4 - Merry King (2.40)

3 - Hazy Tom (5.15)

2 - Pete the Feat, & Loch Ba (2.40)
2 - Champagne Fever, Puffin Billy, & Dodging Bullets (1.30),
2 - Zarkandar (3.20)

Monday 11 March 2013

11mar13 here we go

Definite lull before the storm today only Ian Carpenter and Dave Kingsbury on either leader board even had a bet!  Overall just 5 winners from 27 bets the Bergs finished one and two today Annette with her 7-2 winner and Paul starting his Cheltenham week with an 11-4 winner.  Val Impey (Sara) picked her 2nd winner in a row at 9-4, Paul Creed 6-4 and Ian Carpenter 1-7 finish the list.

All quiet on the plate front

Sunday 10 March 2013

10mar13 a tough one

Only 24 players today and 5 winners, clear top billing was Stuart Bentham with a 10-1 winner to move from 43rd to 20th Rod Brown 7-1, and Terry Mathews 13-2 also registered good progress, Justin Sercombe and Barry Pemble picked up nice 10 point 5-4 winner each.

So all change in the top 6 of the plate another minor setback with the leader as Justin & Barry both gained 8 points.

Johnny Lynch went dormy today

Saturday 9 March 2013

09mar13 two days

Friday very quiet just two winners Adam Slatter 13-8 and Val Impey 2-9 to get off the mark at last.

A bit more action today, Saturday, 7 winners and close for best billing Colin Warmington scrapes it with a 17-2 winner from Dave Kingsbury 8-1 they both return to the leader board that order.  Other winners were Me and Justin Sercombe 7-2, Jed Parramore 100-30, Michael Brook 5-2 & last and least Gary Cawsey 7-4.  So I think that is losers all the way over the past 4 days for the top 4 on the leader board giving us a chance to bring them back to the field.

In the plate a minor slip for the leader Vince Paige as his 5-4 bumper horse at Gowran got pipped into 2nd so that allowed Justin and I to edge closer with our 10 pointer in the pack behind him, all is not lost.

Thursday 7 March 2013

07feb13 Dynaste Turned Over

Still practicing for next week!

Just 5 winners today from 38 bets and very little to write home about apart from Martin Sharman's 6-1 winner the other 4 were Dave Kingsbury and Stuart Bentham at 5-4 and the dynamic duo Paige & Pemble with the same 1-2 winner.

So a change in the plate as that 5 point winner for Barry Pemble finally got him past Justin Sercombe but only on count back Vince Paige moves back out to 30 clear with a game in hand, nothing to worry about jockey has lost control and the horse has bolted :-)

Wednesday 6 March 2013

06mar13 Simonsig wins easily

Just practicing headlines for next week :-)

The undoubted winner today was Daniel Billingham with a very nice 14-1 winner to scrape back onto the foot of the leader board. He was one of 8 winners from 35 bets today.  Others were the 4 on Billy Twyford that won at 9-2 they were Annette Berg, Alan Mabb, Dave Barker & Gary Cawsey, nice winner. Leaving just 3 more to mention Barry Pemble 1-2, Mark Nutting 7-2 & Steve Walton 6-5.

In the plate Barry used up a game in hand on the leader but scored 5 points, Ian Carpenter was the only other scorer in the top 6, 1 point for a 3rd as his winning streak came to an end.

Tuesday 5 March 2013

05mar13 Cuneyt Cakir

Of course I couldn't resist it my new hero from Turkey - what a shame :-)

Of equal import is the double whammy today in the comp just when Mark Sharman was settling down to bask in the glory of top spot for the day and the possibility of being leader after his 22-1 winner (in fact only enough for 4th place) along comes Tom Elliston with his 33-1 winner to leapfrog him both on the leader board and in the top of the day billing!  Bert Peart with his 5-1 winner managed to resist both of them and hold on to 2nd.  So that's 3 of the 7 winners the others were Mark Dighton 7-2 and two guys on Southfield Theatre at 4-9 they were the usual culprits Barry Pemble, Vince Paige and finally a 17th winner for Ian Carpenter at 11-4 to go 5th and bring up his 6 timer - nice work.

In the plate just the two 5 pointers scored with Ian Carpenter retaking 6th spot

Monday 4 March 2013

04mar13 one week to go

36 bets today and 6 winners, Lee Constable our esteemed leader had another winner 9-4 to move further ahead, other winners were Kevin Wood & Rod Brown also 9-4 but a 10 pointer, Jimmy McGarrity 3-1, Tom Feeney top spot today with 100-30, and finally and least! Mark Nutting 7-4.

In the plate the 10 points for Kevin Wood took him 2nd above me and Justin Sercombe's 5 point 2nd in the same race closed him right up.  Probably still a reasonable day for the plate leader as he remains 22 clear with a game in hand.

Sunday 3 March 2013

03mar13 only two

Star billing today goes to Lee constable with a very nice 9-1 winner to go £8.50 clear of the field, the only other winner today was Jimmy McGarrity with an 11-4 to take him to just 12p down that was from a total of 28 bets so what looked like a tough day was!

In the plate I used up my game in hand on the leader without scoring and the best anyone else did among the leaders was 2 points, so a good day for Vince Paige again :-)

Excel updated on its way

Saturday 2 March 2013

02mar13 low scoring today

A fair few winners 9 from 36 but Dave Barker secured the best priced of those with just a 15-8 winner! Loads of people on Mad Brian at Navan that duly obliged at a very good 9-10.

In the plate Vince went up against Mad Brian so lost 5 points to the field but he can afford it still 31 points clear

01mar13 can't jump!

Just 6 winners Friday from 40 selections, best was Jake Fifield with a nice 8-1 winner to move 7th, others were Steve Walton evens, Wayne Morton & Tom Feeney both 13-8, Martin Sharman 9-4 and Ian Carpenter brought up a 4 timer with a 5-4 winner and that takes him to 15 winners and the most of anyone.

In the plate leader missed with just 2 points for a 3rd place but didn't lose any ground in fact extending his lead to a commanding 36 points.  Kevin Wood broke into 3 figures with a 5 point 2nd and all the rest failed to score or sat out.  Much discussion today when I offered Vince 2-5 that he wouldn't win the plate he turned it down - offer has now lapsed.  Is Vince really putting in the sort of performance that Make a Stand did the the 1997 Champion hurdle is the key question - no pressure Vince :-)

Have a funeral tomorrow afternoon Saturday update may be Sunday morning

Friday 1 March 2013

28feb13 Another big'un

Pat Quinn Snr at 14-1 took today's honours, Vince Paige also worthy of note 5-1 and 10 points 3 got the 13-2 winner Ballyoliver Alan Mabb, Roger Dore & Kevin Hall to scrape into the last cash position.  There were 11 winners in total so 6 others :-)

Plate Vince forges on!
