Challow Hurdle @ Newbury

Today's big race looks fairly open on the surface but for me the form of Taquin Du Seuil is the stand out form and he looks the one to beat.  His main rival Clondaw Kaempher previous wins, both when odds on, gives me a cause to doubt the strength of that form, can't deny that McCain is in good form 98 winners this season and 11 of them in past two weeks but is the win against Lienosus that great?  For me Paul Nicholls runner, Easter day, is a bigger danger but as he has never raced on heavy ground got to leave him alone meaning the selection is Taquin Du Seuil, 7-4 pretty much everywhere as I write.

4 fold on the football today Spurs, Nottingham Forest, Rotherham & Cheltenham 11-1

So make it a 5 fold all of the above for 32-1

Friday 28 December 2012

Cheltenham 01jan13

Phew that was unlucky and I got 20-1 in the morning still Bet365 paid 1/4 the odds so 5-1 for the each way made it a profitable day.

For those going to Cheltenham on New Years Day buy your tickets online and the cost is only £25 instead of £30 for walk up entry - this is available even on the morning of the meeting

Gates open 10.30 first race 12.15 last race 3.40 - see you there Happy New Year

Wednesday 26 December 2012

OK back to business

Long Run - for me poor value so I have to oppose him he is just not quite consistent enough for me to take 2-1.  Have to see evidence of Gran Crus recovery before I could back him and Cue Card will surely struggle over this trip in the heavy. Riverside Theatre is of some interest but beaten by Long Run in this two years ago and has been winning over 21f rather than 3m.  So for me that leaves an each way bet on Captain Chris 20-1 in a place (bet 365) likes going right handed much more than left so his runs at Cheltenham can be excused and was 3rd last year 4-1 to get in the frame sounds better value than 2-1 for the win.

Stand out best bet of the day for me is in the race before the King George - Countrywide Flame a solid 7-4

Ascot today - best bet

Hi

Not going having a weekend off!

However, my fancy today for Ascot is Lyvius in the Ladbroke at 3.10, currently 10-1 (bet365) and shows at 12-1 on Victor and the exchanges.  This is a dramatically open race but he can surely be forgiven for his run in the grade 1 at Aintree last season.  Slight concern that Geraghty rides Cash and Go but not sure how that works at the yard but the claimer takes 5 of the 8lb rise Lyvius picked up for the impressive win at Newbury at the end of last month and there was a suggestion in that run that he got a bit tired at the end so may come on for that as well.  Trainer is sure he likes the ground, a young horse that we may be catching on the way up, backable each way as well at 1/4 first 4

Happy Xmas all

Friday 14 December 2012

Cheltenham 14dec12

Today's best bet from me is Dark Lover in the 1.20 (currently 5-1) won at Chelters before this year and the drop back in class gives him a very live chance in an open race - double up with Bradley in the next?

Thursday 13 December 2012

Punchestown Update

Accommodation is booked and deposits paid for 2 x 3 bed houses, total cost E990

Check out at www.avonri.com

Transfer from airport - advice from Avonri is to use people carriers that wait at airport cost E65-70 and they carry 8 so that should work well as only 8 of us are flying together

Cheltenham Festival

Today 10dec12 is the last day for the discounted tickets for next years event you save £10.00 per day - just bought mine for Thursday & Friday

FYI full price for Gold Cup day (Friday) is now a whapping £85

Sunday 9 December 2012

08dec12 Final day

A big group turned up so good time all day in the champagne bar - remind me did Vince Paige move from the bar at all during the afternoon?

Paul Berg collected his winners prize £1,300 and the cup (pictures to follow) in fact there were no movements at all on either leader board on the last day.

There were 5 winners on the day me, Kevin Dighton, which secured his win in our side bet, Mark Quinn to secure 2nd place and Kevin Wood & Justin Sercombe who also selected the same horse and so that secured Justin's 2nd in the plate.

next comp will not start until towards the end of January ready for the final day at Punchestown in April - so have a good Christmas and New Year everybody

Will post the odd blog in the gap such as naps, Punchestown updates (we are now up to 9) and uploading pictures

Saturday 8 December 2012

08dec12 and the winner is

As expected and well deserved Paul Berg wins again - treated us all to copious amounts of champers at the end of the day - well done & thanks

Barry Pemble was already the confirmed winner of the Plate and 2nd/3rd remained unaltered as they both picked the same runner

Full update and final excel in the morning - back to the wine now the driving is over :-)

Friday 7 December 2012

07dec12 one to go

6 winners today that took us over the 600 winners cumulative!  They were best of the day Alan Daniels 3-1 to move him up to 12th just 33p off cash, Roger Dore & Paul Berg both 15-8 winners, Barry Pemble 2-1 to secure top spot in the plate, Justin Sercombe & Kevin Wood 4-6 to keep alive their rivalry for 2nd spot until the last day.

The 2nd & 3rd Spot is the only undecided position in the plate and well done to Barry Pemble again - showing us just how to win the plate.

If you are outside the top 17 shown on the leaderboard you are on a negative total

Hoping for a good turnout tomorrow lots have said they are going see you all there

06dec12 all very tense

7 winners today 5 of them the 1-8 winner at Clonmel which was all of the top 7 in the plate except Steve Walton & Vince Paige who sat out.  The other two winners were Gary Cawsey who brought up a treble with the best of the day 8-1 but all a bit late and finally Tom Feeney 6-4 which lifted him 3 places into 10th place.

The mathematical chance of me catching Vince Paige in the plate vanished as my winner fell from 10 points to 5 because of a non runner.

01nov11 CORRECTION

Justin Sercombe correctly queried a missed bet from 01nov11 (I keep all texts for everyone for the whole competition on my phone until the whole thing is over!!).

He rightly pointed out that i had missed a 5 point 2nd place runner on that day Stevie Thunder at Hereford, this is of some significance as it alters 2nd & 3rd place.

Apologies for the error to both Kevin Wood & Justin Sercombe - the table over reflects the correction

7 winners today they were me 13-8, Barry Pemble 4-11, Gary Cawsey 100-30, Julian Ciampioli 11-2 to move 2nd above Mark Quinn & Jake Fifield, Justin Sercombe 4-1, Neil Harrison 11-2, and Roger Dore evens to move above Martin Long.

In the plate Justin Sercombe's fine 10 point winner moved him to within 1 point of Kevin Wood in 2nd - level bets

o4dec12 good day to miss

Only 2 winners yesterday (Tuesday) Gary Cawsey 6-4 and Paul Berg, the leader, 4-7 presumably just making sure that the nearest behind him needed more than 16-1 to catch him - smart tactic

Top 5 in the plate looks settled now and so just the order to sort out

03dec12 CTFC called sorry

Had to go to the match last night to see if we can make it through to play Everton at Whaddon Road!! - We didn't but got a replay so not over yet

10 winners yesterday so not time to go through them all, the high points were Adam Slater 11-4 to get back onto the foot of the leader board, Ian Carpenter 20-1 but still only in 38th place! Jake Fifield 9-4 to put Mark Quinn in 2nd under a bit of pressure, Michael Brook 5-2 to move up into the cash in 9th.

In the plate the top 3 all had 5 point winners - the same one, and I unraveled one of my in hand bets against Vince Paige with a winner but he's too far away now with no 10 point races around!

Sunday 2 December 2012

02dec12 last week is here

What a shower! 2 meetings Leicester a farce with 5 fences taken out because of the sun and Kempton did there best to put something on - come on racing industry get a grip no wonder you have no cash.  Just compare with Eire brilliant day at Fairyhouse.

As we enter the last week clear leaders in both comps Paul Berg looks quite secure in the main one but maybe Barry Pemble is slightly more vulnerable only 20 ahead of Kevin Wood who has a bet in hand.  Today 6 winners the best was for Gary Dighton 5-1, Gary Pascoe & Vince Paige had a nice 4-1 winner in Eire others were Pat Quinn Jnr 7-4 to sit 10th, Grace Loder 4-6 & Barry Pemble evens.

In the plate Vince Paige's 4 timer (all impressively 10 pointers) pretty much secured his 5th place cash spot and he has a chance at 4th only 12 points behind Martin Long.

The late withdrawal of Top Wood at Leicester sent me, Roger Dore, & Tom Feeney all dormy as well as Neil Harrison who sat out.

8 winners from 61 bets 4 of them had Bobs Worth they were me, Annette Berg, Jimmy McGarrity, & Grace Loder.  The other 4 winners were Martin Long & Vince Paige both on an even winner at Fairyhouse, Celeste Beaty 4-1 to go back to 13th and one off of the leader board and finally the best of the day Roger Dore 8-1 to go back onto the leader board in 7th.

In the plate the top three all did the same odds on loser to pick up 5 points, and Vince Paige, me and Martin all scored 10 points with Julian Ciampioli & Steve Walton, missing out.

30nov12 Woe is me!

8 winners and one of them was Kevin Dighton 33-1, his first winner and a very nice one, enough to put him well ahead in our side bet - needs another one tomorrow if he is to trouble the leaders, as you can see from the today's naps post 5 of the top 6 in the plate all had short priced winners and the others were Wayne Morton 3-1, Roger Dore 7-2, Rod Brown 15-8.

As all of the plate basically scored 10 points apart from me & Julian not much change apart from my continued descent!

7 winners today and the stand out results were Mark Nutting 16-1 to zoom up to only -£2.50 and 21st place well in touch again, Michael Brook 8-1 to return to the leader board in 9th, Kevin Wood 4-1, Vince Paige & Justin Sercombe both 9-10, Annette Berg 7-2 and finally Eamon Kelly to bring up his four timer also at 7-2, that moves him to 15th and +£5.68.

In the plate Kevin Wood scored 10 points and moved 2nd and there was some temporary shuffling at the lower end of the leader board as Vince Paige grabbed 5th place classic gone for the line to early :-)

Scott Bennett and Gary Pascoe are now both dormy

28nov12 big winner II

Jed Parramore's turn today 20-1 to zoom back onto the leader board in 7th spot.  6 other winners Eamon Kelly is making nice upward progress after recording a treble today and is now in the top 20 on +£2.18, Dave Barker now +£9.24 after his 3-1 winner just £1.26 from cash, Julian Ciampioli 5-1 to consolidate in 4th, amazingly Kevin Wood recorded his first winner of November! Only 11-10, Martin Long 3-1 sits 6th, and finally Wayne Morton 6-1 to hold on to 5th.

In the plate Justin Sercombe's forced loser didn't help his cause as 2nd & 3rd both picked up 5 points and in the scramble for the last cash spot three of us had naps that failed to complete so that allowed Julian Ciampioli back into the picture overtaking Vince Paige and only behind me on 2nd place count backs!  Jed Parramore isn't completely our of it either having reached 100 points himself today.

Tuesday 27 November 2012

27nov12 big winner

Luckily it was Jimmy McGarrity so the 25-1 winner still leaves the leader board untroubled.  There were 8 other winners and we managed to hit the winners of 6 of the 7 races today, winners were Annette Berg, Alan Mabb, Danny Beaman, Eamon Kelly, Grace Loder, Neil Harrison, Pauling Giles, & Rob Brown.

Not much action in the plate as most sat out tactically which of course didn't work as most sat out :-)

Look guys there are still a few who haven't paid which is pretty annoying - this comp takes a fair bit of time and effort, which is fair enough, except where this is admin that is easily avoidable.  Loads of reminders etc. to collect cash 3 months after the comp has started is clearly in the avoidable camp.  We may have to consider some rule changes for the next one!

Monday 26 November 2012

26nov12 unstoppable

Paul Berg strikes again 11-2 to extend lead even further, expect he will be arranging with the Beds guys to spend it taking them all to Punchestown!  7 other winners Alan Mabb 11-4 to just make it back into a cash paying position, Eamon Kelly 4-1, Michael Brook 11-4 now 16th and just £4.50 from cash, Neil Harrison 11-4, Rod Brown 4-1, Roger Dore 6-4 to move up to the bubble, & finally Tim Catlin 3-1 unfortunately he needs more than that!

In the plate the 1-5 runner today that got turned over help those of us who sat out :-), with the fight for 2nd 3rd & 4th also looking 'exciting'

Sunday 25 November 2012

25nov12 Seb great stuff

As you can imagine decimated comp today with only 27 live bets (& 21 forced losers).  7 winners in total 4 of them for the same 30-100 winner for 4 of the top 6 in the plate also Steve Walton 5-4, Alan Daniels with a significant 5-1 winner to go 5th and best of the day 7-1 for Pat Quinn Jnr to move him back onto the leader board in 10th.

In the plate 5 points for everyone in the top 7 except Martin Long who had a 1 point 4th and Steve who saw his 5 point winner trimmed to 3 by two non runners!  All very tight for that last cash position.

Ian Carpenter & Pauling Giles both went dormy today - update excel on its way

24nov12 leader moves clear

Just 5 winners today from 62 bets so looks like it was tough.  Paul Berg stretched his lead with a 5-2 winner to £13.00 so must be odds on for the win.  The best of the day was Vince Paige who picked a well back 10-1 winner (16-1 in the morning) & for 10 points so a good day for him.  The other 3 winners were John Heneghan brought up a double with a 5-1 winner, Neil Harrison 7-4, and a rare winner this comp for Ian Carpenter at 6-1.

In the plate Barry Pemble sat out, Kevin Wood scraped 2 points for 3rd and so moved back above Martin Long & Justin Sercombe who both failed to score and the battle for the final cash place is getting very tight and is joined by Vince Paige after his 10 points

23nov12 action day

10 winners and wholesale change on both leader boards.  First the two 16-1 winners further evidence of the centre of gravity moving east, Alan Daniels and Kin Giles both move straight onto the leader board in 9th & 10th Respectively.  Two winners at 10-1 they were Dave Kingsbury and John Heneghan, 8-1 for Julian Ciampioli to go 4th and 5 others, one of the rare days that we made a profit on the day across us all.

In the plate Kevin Wood normally completely on the ball had a forced loser so allowing both Martin Long and Justin Sercombe to pass by with there 5 point winners.  Julian Ciampioli also scored 5 and drew level with me I only keep 6th on count back of 2nd places!

6 winners today with Annette Berg securing top billing with an 8-1 winner to move up to 39th!  Other winners were Gary Pascoe 11-4, John Roach 11-4, Martin Long 3-1 to move up one place in both the plate and the main comp, Roger Dore 7-1 to move back onto the leader board, and finally, the long time leader from the first half of the comp, Mark Quinn got back on track with an 11-4 winner to retain 3rd spot.

In the plate Martin Long's winner actually mean't we had a change on the order with him moving 3rd on number of winners count back, he will clearly struggle to keep that as Justin Sercombe has 4 bets in hand although Justin is now dormy!

In addition to Justin Sercombe also Tim Catlin, Kevin Wood & Ken Jones also are all now dormy

Wednesday 21 November 2012

21nov12 plate day

7 winners today and 6 of them were short priced 5 point winners for the plate leaders.  So Kevin Wood sat out but 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, & 8th (Vince Paige) all had winners. So the only non plate winner was Kevin Hall 13-2 but that still leaves him bottom half.

Adam Slater & Terry Mathews are now both dormy

Tuesday 20 November 2012

20nov12 all quiet

Paltry 3 winners on what can only be described as a crap day.  the winners were Martin Long 4-9, best of the day 7-1 for Annette Berg unfortunately still adrift, and Matt Harrison 7-2.

In the plate Martin's winner pretty much saw him cut adrift the also-rans scrabbling for 5th place.

Working on the Punchestown April13 trip idea, proposed costings and itinerary not far away

Monday 19 November 2012

19nov12 KP learn to play spin

5 winners today 3 of them the same 3-10 winner for Justin Sercombe, Vince Paige and Barry Pemble so in the main comp just one winner John Roach 9-2 to move to 12th and the bubble the only winner among the leaders.  The other winner was a best of the day for Scott Bennett 11-1 to move into the top 30 and just £4.62 down.

In the plate two of the top 3 picked up 5 pointers and Vince continues with his bid for cash, still looks a long shot as he sits 17 points behind Steve Walton with one less bet to go.

As we draw to the close and mass excitement i will start to post the naps at 1.30pm each day probably around Friday or Saturday this week.

Sunday 18 November 2012

18nov12 Beautiful Day

Classic winter's day - it is what NH racing was invented for

Another tough day by the look of things especially if you ignore the two naps on the 1-8 shot at Cork (Vince Paige & Martin Long).  So its all about Paul Berg, not with us on course today, but slots in a 14-1 winner to go £7.50 clear at the top.  The only other winners were Tom Feeney 5-4 & Dave Barker 7-2 that lifted him to 12th and back onto the leader board.

Martin Long's 10 pointer pushed him clear of me and Steve Walton and Vince Paige's 10 points lifted him to 9th and in sight of cash 17 points behind me with 1 bet in hand

17nov12 tough day

Well except for Michael Brook who banged in a 25-1 winner at Cheltenham his 2nd of the meeting and he now sits on the leader board in 9th.  There were only 3 other winners Barry Pemble (of course) 4-9, Alan Daniels 8-1 who did Al Ferof which I didn't despite tipping it :-( & Alan Mabb 11-4 to bring him back onto the leader board on the bubble.

In the plate all 6 on the leader board had a bet and only Barry Pemble collected points

A fairly big turnout from the napscomp team on course - and looks like an even bigger contingent may be at Sandown on 08dec12 - see you all there FYI advance tickets are £23.00 now and £30.00 on the day

Saturday 17 November 2012

Corrections!!

Sorry two errors

Tom Feeney had an 11-2 winner Thursday I missed it that lifts him to 4th will amend table tonight & George Casserley had a runner yesterday (lost) so is NOT dormy he has one spare bet left

Friday 16 November 2012

16nov12 Paddy One

8 winners the most significant and best was for Pat Quinn Jnr 10-1 to move him into the cash on 10th +£9.50 nice one.  Couple of 7-1 winners for Dave Fifield and Michael Brook which moves Dave up to +£5.75 nose bleed city for Dave over the past few years :-) looks like seeing his son top of the leader board is spurring him on!

In the plate Barry Pemble picked up a 10 pointer to move clear (as expected) and Steve's 5 point winner saw him take the last cash spot from me - well momentarily of course.

Three guys added to the dormy list over the last two days they are Alan Daniels, John Roach & George Casserley.

Looks like a fair few of us will be on course tomorrow we mostly watch from the flat either at win post or by letter M (reference spots marked on the main stand).  Going for pre-racing drinks with a friend and understand the Reynolds (Gran Crus owners) will be there, guess what they think he'll win :-).  Not completely sure but seriously thinking of Al Ferof big enough to back each way, as an alternative given the likely SP of Gran Crus.  Just wondering if 2m 4f is a bit far for him though but won here twice and a grade 1

15nov12 late sorry

6 winners top two worth a mention were Alan Mabb 11-2 to go to +6.50 and 15th place & Dave Fifield 13-2 to go to +6.75 and 13th place.  4 other winners were Barry Pemble, Paul Evans, Scott Bennett & Gary Cawsey.

In the plate a lot of zero points among the leaders except Barry Pemble who goes top on number of winners countback

Wednesday 14 November 2012

14nov12 loadsawinners

12 in total from 60 bets so too many to mention all of them best was Julian Micklethwaite 10-1 closely followed and of more significance by Paul Berg who moved to 2nd with an 8-1 winner.  As the leader is dormy and that is 8 bets behind Paul Berg and 14 bets behind Mark Quinn Jake's position could be a bit false when that unravels.   Roger Dore picked up a 9-2 winner to go to +£5.75 and 15th spot.

In the plate Steve Walton & I both picked up 5 point winners, places remain unaltered but we both slightly caught up Martin Long in 4th.

Kevin Dighton, Gary Cawsey & Dave Fifield all are now dormy

Tuesday 13 November 2012

13nov12 he does it again

The leader pops another one in well done Jake 11-10 today.  5 other winners the best of which was Dave Barker with 11-4 that moved him onto the foot of the leader board, Gary Cawsey had another winner 11-10 without such a bad start he would be pretty competitive on current form, Vince Paige 4-5, Tom Feeney 5-2 & Wayne Morton 2-9.

In the plate only Martin Long from the leader board had a bet and that picked up 2 points.  Vince Paige's target of overhauling me and playing among the big boys in the plate looked a little bit more achievable after his 5 point winner he sits 9th on 76 points so he is still 23 points away with one bet in hand

Monday 12 November 2012

12nov12 pulling away

The leader that is, as Jake Fifield bangs in another winner today at 6-1 the best of the day, going dormy last week has only galvanized him with 3 winner from the last 4 bets.   6 other winners today Wayne Morton & Adam Slater both with a 15-8 winner, and then 4 guys all with 7-2 winners, Martin Long, Pat Quinn Snr, Julian Ciampioli & Gareth Chapman.

Sunday 11 November 2012

11nov12 remember

6 winners today and some action at the top of the leader board as Paul Berg had a DH winner at 3-1 to go 3rd and Adam Slater had the other DH winner at 6-1 to go 4th, Steve Walton also had that 6-1 dead heat winner along with Barry Pemble 5-4, Martin Long 11-10, and John Roach with the best of the day 9-1 to replace Jed Parramore at the foot of the leader board.

In the plate the top 4 all scored 5 points I sat out so Steve Walton's 3 points saw him close up to the cash.

Saturday 10 November 2012

10nov12 New Leader

Yes after many weeks Mark Quinn has been unseated as leader after Jake Fifield selected a nice 5-1 winner on what seems to have been a difficult day.  Only 4 winners from 62 bets! The other winners were also all 5-1 although only Justin Sercombe was the same one, Scott Bennett and Pat Quinn Jnr made up that select group today.

So in the plate the 10 points from Justin Sercombe moved him into a secure 3rd everyone else only managed to scrape 3 points between them.

Daniel Billingham, & Danny Beaman both went dormy today

Friday 9 November 2012

09nov12 TFI Friday

7 winners today best was Roger Dore at 9-1 to move up to 16th and +£5.25 also making a bit of a move is Pat Quinn Snr who picked up a 6-1 winner the 3rd decent winner in the last 7 bets, he now sits mid table on -£5.84.  Other winners were Kevin Hall 4-1, Neil Harrison 6-4, Pete Long 5-2, Julian Ciampioli 11-4 to move up to 5th and finally Wayne Morton who's new strategy after his 25-1 winner on 01nov is paying off with a 6-5 winner and stays in touch with the leaders on +£19.74 in 3rd, that's 6 winners from the last 11 for him.

In the plate a couple of 2 pointers so no real change.

Robert Baker became the 15th person to be dormy from today

Thursday 8 November 2012

08nov12 tough out there

Revised blog:

Only 3 winners today from 54 bets the best was Dave Barker 5-1, but of more significance was the 4-1 winner for Jake Fifield to move move to within £3 of the long time leader.  Also Martin Long with his 100-30 10 point winner moved into 10th.

Martin Long was the only winner at the top of the plate, Barry Pemble missed out again failing to score, Kevin Wood and I both picked up a 5 point 2nd which took me past Steve Walton and into the cash and extended Kevin's lead to 7 points for 2 extra bets.

Wednesday 7 November 2012

07nov12 missed a few

Sorry for the gap I'm in the USA working and last night had to watch the election stuff

So assuming Rod Brown's late nap today loses the tables are as over, nothing earth shattering has happened since Sunday, Monday 8 winners, Tuesday 6 and today only 5.

Selecting a few a highlights George Casserley and Gary Dighton 11-2 yesterday to take Gary positive, Jed Parramore 15-2 to take him back to the leaderboard, Matt Harrison 11-4 today to go positive, Paul Berg 9-2 Monday to stay in contention at the top of the leader board.

In the plate Barry Pemble has used up two of his in hand bets on Kevin Woods and only picked up 4 points so things are now much tighter.

Jake Fifield went dormy yesterday and had a forced loser today in 2nd spot!

Monday 5 November 2012

04nov12 busy Sunday

9 winners today and rather pleasingly the best was me with 11-2 closely followed by Gary Dighton & Kim Giles on 5-1.  A 7-2 winner for Wayne Morton moved him up to 3rd and Daniel Billingham's 7-4 winner took him 5th.

In the plate the top 3 all did the same horse for a 5 point 2nd Martin Long's 10 pointer took him 4th and I returned to the leader board with my 10 pointer but only on count back.

Three people went dormy today Pete Long, Joanne Hutson & Annette Berg .

Saturday 3 November 2012

03nov12 day two in USA

Just 6 winners today on what looked like a fairly difficult day the best was 8-1 recorded by Mark Kelly and Pat Quinn Snr, others were Ian Carpenter 11-2, Julian Micklethwaite 9-2 with Barry Pemble and  Tom Feeney 13-8.

Most of the top 6 scored 5 points mostly from 2nds all except Steve Walton who is away on hols.

So Zagora won nicely last night and I got 14-1 my selections for day 2 are:

7.35 Groupie Doll 11-10
8.14 Emcee 7-2
10.18 Trailblazer 6-1
11.40 Wise Dan 11-4

Friday 2 November 2012

02nov12 day one in CA

Go lads go

10 winners today and a nice 9-1 winner for Jake Fifield to close to within £6 of Mark Quinn the very long time leader also with the same 9-1 winner were Alan Daniels & Mark Nutting closely followed, by Pete Feeney 17-2 & Martin Long 7-2, Tom Feeney has converted to odds on now he has picked up a couple of good winners and consolidated in 3rd with a 1-2 winner, nice tactic.  Big Al (Alan Mabb) scored with an 11-4 winner that lifted him back to +£9.00 just short of the leaderboard.

In the plate Martin Long closed up to the last cash spot with the only winner among the leaders.

In the cup take Chad Brown to train two consecutive winners in the 10.48 Zagora & Awesome Feather in the 11.30 that's 9-1 & 4-1 so a 49-1 double - that will do nicely

Thursday 1 November 2012

01nov12 big one

Wayne Morton pops in a 25-1 winner to move straight up to 3rd, 6 other winners best of the rest were Gary Cawsey & Kim Giles with the same 7-1 winner, others were Matt Harrison, George Casserley, Celeste Beaty and Adam Slater.

Kevin Woods 5 pointer 2nd moved him a little clear but Barry has 5 in hand

Wednesday 31 October 2012

31oct12 goodbye star nice one!

Just 5 winners today best was Mark Kelly 9-1 to go positive and into 26th, others were Vince Paige, Kevin Wood, Wayne Morton & Pete Long.

Only winner in the plate was Kevin Wood's 10 pointer to retake the lead again

Tuesday 30 October 2012

30oct12 back from 2 down

Swindon go go!

8 winners today from 52 bets Robert Baker 5-1 & Jed Parramore were the only 2 among the 8 that were odds against!  Get the impression that in general people are starting to take things a bit more seriously now (well other than Vince of course).

In the plate flip flop at the top as Barry Pemble takes over at the top again and Martin Long moves up a place into the cash.

Monday 29 October 2012

29oct12 big winner

12 winners from from a very busy Monday with 53 bets in total, the best was from a previous winner Tom Feeney at 25-1 to shoot him up the table and into 5th.  Others of note were Grace Loder 11-2, Alan Mabb 5-1, Kevin Wood an impressive 9-2 winner in the biggest race of the day so 10 points, Matt Harrison 5-1 to go back positive, and Wayne Morton 5-1.

In the plate all the top 4 had winners but Kevin Wood took back over on top with his 10 pointer.

Sunday 28 October 2012

28oct12 farce at Stamford Bridge

2 sent off what rubbish officials (OK one red was deserved) and an offside winner!!  Just review the play and get it right.

Only 5 winners today and that included Barry Pemble and my 1-6 winner in Eire! Best of the day was Kim Giles 11-2 and others were Gary Cawsey 3-1 and John Roach 13-8.

Sorry missed Gary Dighton who actually had the best of the day 13-2 to make up the 5 winners for the day!

In the plate Barry Pemble took over at the top as Kevin Wood sat out again - as a tactic he has to let Barry catch up on number of bets so this was inevitable.

Excel update on its way

RULE REMINDER

Hi don't forget with racing starting earlier after the clocks change entries must be in by either the earlier of 1.30 pm or at least 30 minutes before the start of the race.

Saturday 27 October 2012

27oct12 Go CTFC

Moderate 7 winners today from 53 bets the busiest day of the comp.  Best of the day was Tom Feeney 17-2, but that wasn't enough to even move him to the top half, Kim Giles 11-2 was next best and Bert Peart third with 9-2 and they were the only winners bigger than 11-8.  (those 4 were Barry Pemble, Martin Long, Jake Fifield, Gary Pascoe).

In the plate Martin Long made it to 6th with his 5 pointer and Barry made 2nd with his.

26oct12 triple whammy!

17 winners over the last 2 days so selecting the obvious highlights, Dave & Jake Fifield together with John Heneghan all picked the same 25-1 winner always a problem when a long shot with one of players names wins!! My Mate Jake :-) but well done and that lifts both the Fifield's onto the leaderboard.  John Curtis picked a 16-1 winner on Thursday to move 5th and the only person to pick 2 from 2 was Barry Pemble.

In the plate Kevin Wood crept a bit closer to three figures but both Justin Sercombe and Barry Pemble are fast catching him.  A suggestion that there is a bit of a gap opening between the big three and the rest of us.

Friday 26 October 2012

25oct12 delayed

Sorry Thursday's update delayed file updated then had a computer crash and lost the file had had to go back to the previous day to restore everything :-(

Expect two days in one this evening

Thursday 25 October 2012

24oct12 No Poppy, No!

9 naps on No Poppy today so definitely good for the other 60 of us that it could only manage a 4th.  Only 5 winners and a big one from Mark Nutting topped the pile at 20-1 but as that was only his 2nd winner then it only took him back to -£3.50 and 30th! Paul Berg popped in another decent priced winner at 7-1 to just scrape into 2nd place still £18 behind the leader and Jake Fifield at 12-1 rounded off a good day for long priced winners.  The other 2 winners were Jed Parramore 6-5 & Dave Kingsbury 3-1.

In the plate news flash - Barry Pemble failed to score good old No Poppy, most of the others on the leaderboard scrapped 2 points.

Tuesday 23 October 2012

24oct12 famous five

And the five were Julian Micklethwaite 11-4, Annette Berg 6-4, Bert Peart 3-1, George Casserley 3-1, and Julian Ciampioli 3-1. So all that didn't make much difference!

In the plate all the leaders scored some points but order remained unaffected.

Note the small side bet update text box - if there are any others happening let me know and I'll do the same for them.

Kev's bet is accepted

£100 bet who finishes higher between Maurice & Kev (Kev gets +£25.00)

And if Steve & I had had an invite from the lads to watch it at the club then we may not have had to troop all the way to Ascot without a badge - but hey we didn't :-(

Monday 22 October 2012

22oct12 just two left

Only Kevin Dighton our esteemed sponsor and Terry Mathews left to get off the mark after Ian Carpenter got off the mark with a 7-1 winner today.  A very creditable 9 winners today John Roach continued his purple patch with a 3rd winner in 4 days 9-1 to reach the leader board, Dave barker had the same 7-1 winner as Ian to move positive and loads of others!

Plate Julian Ciampioli's 5 pointer knocked me out 6th as my 3-1 favourite backed into 9-4 finished last 115 lengths behind the winner looks like Adrian Maguire's riding skills not transferred to training then!

Kevin as I can't get Vince to accept any bet as he is not good enough and is giving up how about a bet for next entry into the comp.  Best finishing position in main comp I'll give you +£20.00 on the handicap. That means you will start on +£1.00 against my -63p but you have had 8 fewer bets.

21oct12 no change

A few winners but not a single change of place at all on either leaderboard!

Winners of note were Pete Long 9-1 gallingly now a few pence above me after 2 winners in a row, Mark Kelly 7-1 to go back positive another taking a bit more interest now they are dormy.  Others were Jimmy McGarrity 4-1 his first winner for ages, Steve Walton & Barry Pemble both captured a 5-6 winner and Wayne Morton 7-1.

In the plate there are now 4 of us all on the same total of 55, Celeste Beaty, Rod Brown, Julian Ciampioli and me but I'm just hanging onto the glory of the leaderboard on count back!

Sunday 21 October 2012

bet of the day

Toulon  to beat Cardiff handicap -8 points at 10/11

20oct12 Frankel glory

Unfortunately without Steve & my attendance as I got caught trying to tout a badge and couldn't get in!!

Best of the 8 winners of the day was for James Foley currently dormy but now getting back into it by delivering a 10-1 winner and going positive +83p, the other decent winners were John Roach late last night with a 17-2 winner to go to +£3.50 and Scott Bennett 9-1.  All the other were short price winners

In the plate Kevin Wood & Justin Sercombe both picked up 10 points to sit 1st & 2nd, my 5 point winner just managed to lift me back onto the leaderboard above Celeste Beaty & Julian Ciampioli who both have 55 points as well on number of 2nds count back.

Friday 19 October 2012

19oct12 one to come

Given that it is Friday night and we have one running in the 9.20 I'm cutting this now with that result still to come. 8 winners today best by far is Jed Parramore 20-1 winner to move up to +£7.73 14th place just below the leader board also Daniel Billingham his 2nd 8-1 winner in 2 days to move 5th.  A few of the old regulars all picked winners today Steve Walton 11-10, Barry Pemble evens, Justin Sercombe 9-2, Kevin Wood 7-2 and Rod Brown 4-1, the exception to the regulars was the final winner today Pete Long with a 5-1 winner.

A fair few winners today on the among the leader board today, with only Paul Evans missing out on a winner 10 pointers for Kevin Wood & Justin Sercombe were impressive in very tough races at Cheltenham.

Thursday 18 October 2012

18oct12 surprised think not

So that's Jimmy & Lance what next, talent shows are rigged by Simon, SP returns are manipulated by the bookies, "needs a run" means I'm running them even though they are not fit, and maybe even, what, the Pope's a catholic!

6 winners today Gareth Chapman gets off the mark with a 7-2 winner,  Adam Slater also 7-2 to move up a place to 8th, Barry Pemble 4-7, Steve Walton 9-10, best of the day 4-1 for Pat Quinn Snr and finally Wayne Morton 3-1.

Barry Pemble continued his inexorable rise to the top with his 5 pointer moving him up to 2nd.

Steve & I off to see Frankel's final run Saturday anyone else planning to go text me on the day lets meet up for a beverage we will be there really early as I have got to tout a ticket :-(

Wednesday 17 October 2012

17oct12 one all what a shower

8 winners on a busy day with 51 bets, best of the day was Tim Catlin with a 12-1 winner but as he had started pretty slowly that only lifted him to 25th, also winners for Barry Pemble 5-6, Vince Paige 5-6, Adam Slater 6-4 to maintain his place on the leader board, Daniel Billingham a nice 8-1 winner to go back up to 9th, John Roach 5-1, Lee Johnson 7-2, and finally Matt Harrison 8-1 to move 16th.

Barry Pemble's winner at 5 points moved him to 3rd, still with plenty of bets in hand, Vince Paige moved up to 23rd not really troubling the leaders :-)

Tuesday 16 October 2012

16oct12 off - where's the roof!

4 winners today from a much depleted field after loads of non runners from Newcastle abandonment.  The winners were another top shot 7-1 winner this time for Martin Long & Gary Pascoe it was enough to get Martin Long to scrape onto the bottom of the leader board, Steve Walton & George Casserley were the other two winners

In the plate Steve Walton moved back onto the leader board in 4th after his 5 pointer

Monday 15 October 2012

15oct12 7 for Hughes

I was there at Ascot when Frankie did it in 1996 10,168-1 accumulator!

Another tough one with pretty much the same result as yesterday just 3 winners and the best was again Eamon Kelly with another 7-1 winner to go 5th, the other two were Lee Johnson 7-2 and Gary Cawsey who got off the mark with a 5-2 winner.

In the plate all the leaders seem to be doing what i always do and sit out Mondays always rubbish racing in general and so a good day to miss, so only one bet today from Paul Evans and that missed!

Sunday 14 October 2012

14oct12 another tough one

Just 3 winners again from 43 bets but all three were of significance, best was Eamon Kelly 7-1 to lift him to 7th Justin Sercombe & Celeste Beaty the same nice 10 pointer at 2-1 to bring them both onto the plate leaderboard and to take Celeste to 2nd a great performance for her first comp.

Val Impey went dormy today and a few others are close

Excel update will follow when they finally get the last at Goodwood details up I know they all lost but can't finish the details.

Saturday 13 October 2012

13oct12 just no stopping him

Leader wins again that's 5 winners from the last 6 for Mark Quinn with today's 9-2 winner brilliant stuff on what was a difficult day with only 3 winners in total.  Others were Barry Pemble 30-100, and Mark Sharman 15-2 to move up to 3rd.

In the plate Barry Pemble finally shook off Steve Walton and me to move into 4th, the leader in waiting! Martin Long picked up 5 points for 2nd in the Cesarewitch to move to level points with Steve Walton & me but misses the leaderboard on count back.

12oct12 late Friday

oops forgot wine was too good!

8 winners yesterday but the three guys who picked the same 11-1 winner No Poppy shook things up a bit especially as one was the leader, Mark Quinn, who has worryingly already reached the total that means he is guaranteed to finish up.  In fact the worst his final total can be is now already +£13.91 so that's our first target at least.  The other two were Celeste Beaty who rose to 3rd and Kim Giles who sits 15th on +£5.25.
The other five winners were Dave Fifield, Matt Harrison, Pauline Giles, Pat Quinn Jnr, & Rod Brown

In the plate only Kevin Wood managed to trouble the scorers so no movement

Thursday 11 October 2012

11oct12 all a bit sensitive aren't we?

So another footballer upsets someone else over another little swear word - talk about over the top come on lets have some resilience shall we.  The right to be offensive and distasteful is an essential part freedom of speech in a free society society or we have no humour and no critisism.

OK back down from the soap box the racing:

8 winners today from 43 bets and the outstanding result was the 14-1 winner for Eamon Kelly who has finally got going after a very late start.  Other winners included Steve Walton & Mark Quinn both with the same 10-11 winner, Bert Peart 3-1, John Roach who got off the mark with a 5-1 shot, Matt Harrison 11-4,  Paul Berg 5-2 a previous winner now well into his stride in this one, & Tom Feeney brought up a double with a 6-1 winner.

In the plate both the top 2 failed to score and Steve Walton joined Barry Pemble & i on 48 points separated on count back only

Wednesday 10 October 2012

10oct12 big winner

Jon Curtis bags a 25-1 winner one of 8 today, that took him straight up to 10th - just shows how far down he was :-).  Michael Brook 9-2 and Tim Catlin 3-1 were the only others of note.

In the plate the two leaders pulled away as they both got a 10 point winner and Julian Ciampioli 5 point winner moved him to 3rd.

09oct12 it was all going so well

Went to CTFC v Oxford going along nicely ok we did go 0-1 down but came back nicely to lead 2-1 by half time then wheels just fell off and we lost 2-4 - so concentrate on the league then :-).

Loads of winners 11 to be precise, 5 were the 10 point 7-2 winner Gull Rock the fab five were Rod Brown, Kevin Wood, Paul Evans, Eamon Kelly & Grace Loder (who both got off the mark), best of the day was 11-2 for Paul Berg who went 3rd, and the leader Mark Quinn picked up another winner at 3-1.

All change in the plate with three new names appearing on the leader board since yesterday - Kevin Wood returned to the top with the 10 point fab 5 winner and Paul Evans followed him straight into the #2 spot, Julian Ciampioli also entered joined in 5th place level on points with 3rd & 4th who both sat out.

Monday 8 October 2012

08oct12 no messing

From Mark Quinn one day knocked off the top spot and he fires in a 10-1 winner to go clear.  Only three other winners Justin Sercombe 11-8, Pauline Giles 11-4 and Val Impey got off the mark with a 7-2 winner.

Pretty quiet in the plate only 2 people even making a selection and so Dave Kingsbury's 2 point 2nd was enough to take him back to 4th.

Sunday 7 October 2012

07oct12 new leader

Paul Evans returns to the top after a small winner today.  In all there were 10 winners from just 33 bets so too many to go through perhaps should pick out Martin Long 4-1 in the only 16 runner race of the day a brave pick.

In the plate as predicted Barry Pemble drew along side me on level points i keep first on count back # of winners.  Martin Long's 10 pointer brings him up to third.  It is all very tight with only 18 points between the leaders and Vince Paige in 20th.

Saturday 6 October 2012

06oct12 big day

In terms of number of winners 12 from 50 bets.  The best price was 6-1 and this was recorded by Vince Paige, Celeste Beaty to move 7th, Ken Jones, Gary Dighton but clearly too many to list everyone.

Excitement in the plate (well for me anyway) as my 4th winner in a row took me top, sort of waiting for Barry Pemble to take over however as he has 6 bets in hand!  Vince Paige did get his 2nd 10 pointer and moves up another 10 places - he can't keep this up surely?

Friday 5 October 2012

05oct12 Man up Ashley

Look Ashley Cole gave evidence in a court of law and that was accepted where the burden of proof is much heavier and where the judges are not appointed by the prosecuting organisation (yes who else appoints the 'independent' judges at the FA tribunal but the FA) and now they are rubbishing his evidence I think he has a right to be upset .  Just because you said it in the heat of the moment is no reason to grovel - get some Ashley.

Oh yes and today's racing :-) 9 winners from 37 bets so much better.  Best of the day was Ian Walters 9-2 that's a double and his 3rd winner in 7 days to move from -£11.00 to 18th and +£4.50.  The others of note were Pauline Giles 7-2, Rod Brown 11-4 his 4th winner in 6 bets to pretty much mirror the move of Ian and now sits 19th +£4.05, and Vince Paige at 4-1.

However despite all the winners the leaderboard was unaffected - none of the top 12 troubled the scorer (me).

In the plate lots of action at the top Steve Walton, last times winner, finally clawed his way to the top on # of winners count back, my 3rd winner in 3 days moved me 3rd 1 point behind the top two but with bets in hand on them both.  Barry Pemble the plate winner from Comp #30 joined the leaders and has loads of bets in hand on us all.  Vince Paige's winner was a 10 pointer the start of his forlorn attempt to overtake Steve & I, OK he lept from 49th to 28th with today's winner but its much tougher at the top!!

Thursday 4 October 2012

04oct12 no stopping CTFC now

Another poor return only 4 winners from 50 bets they were in descending order Martin Broderick 8-1 now just short of the top 12, Bert Peart 9-2 (enough to get onto the leader board - just), Rod Brown 4-1 and bringing up the rear me with a 10-11 shot.

In the plate my 3 point winner (4 non runners took the field down to 6!) was enough to get back into 5th

03oct12 Welcome back KP

Only 4 winners today but some nice ones topped by Paul Berg with a 16-1 winner to fire up to 5th, Paul Evans took 2nd place from Mark Sharman with his 9-2 winner, Adam Slater picked a 9-1 winner and so moved back into the mix at the top in 6th place and finally Ian Walters picked only his 2nd winner but at 13-2 that was enough to take him exactly level in 23rd place.

In the plate Paul Evans 5 points brought him onto the leader board in 5th place

Tuesday 2 October 2012

02oct12 busy day

Busy day for a midweek low quality racing day with 49 bets and 7 winners.  Both Bert Peart & Pat Quinn Snr picked the same 15-2 winner but Roger Dore with a 16-1 winner secured the honour of the best winner of the day and moved onto the leaderboard in 8th.  Other winners were Neil Harrison evens, Jimmy McGarrity 3-1, George Casserley got off the mark with a 5-2 winner & finally Alan Mabb with an 11-2 winner got back into winning ways after 7 losers in a row to move up to 5th.

In the plate a bit of movement Alan Mabb's 5 point winner took him back 2nd and Dave Kingsbury also moved past Steve Walton into 3rd as Steve sat out, Gary Pascoe rejoined the top 6 as he moved past me as I sat out for the 2nd day in a row.

Monday 1 October 2012

01oct12 come back KP - please

Just 5 winners today from 37 bets 3 guys picked the 9-5 winner they were  Rod Brown, Pete Feeney & Paul Evans with both Justin Sercombe and Barry Pemble securing the 5 points with a 2-7 winner.

So in the plate inevitably Barry Pemble arrives on the leaderboard in 5th on # of 2nds count back and Justin Sercombe is bubbling under on 30 so expect a pretty familiar look pretty look shortly.

Golf update

OK I know so Olazabal didn't blow it but if he was doing that again I bet he wouldn't leave out Poulter to play Henson again!!

A big thank you to everyone for not taking up my bet and considering that I basically backed the USA I only ended up down £13.00 that's got to be a result as they lost!!

Sunday 30 September 2012

30sep12 Oooh 11-11 now so close

7 winners today best was Danny Beaman 16-1 to leap up to +£10.00 and 8th place, Pat Quinn Jnr a very nice 8-1 winner to go +£23.00 and 3rd place, Gary Pascoe 9-2 to take him back positive, me 5-2, Matt Harrison 100-30 to also go back into positive territory Robert Baker 5-1, & finally Scott Bennett 7-2.  So all in all a very positive day after the very poor Saturday.

In the plate my winner was not enough to rest back 4th from Dave Kingsbury on count back and Gary Pascoe's winner was just enough to scrape onto the leader board again on count back

29sep12 Olaza-balls up

Look I'm not a golfer and I want USA to win the Ryder cup but the captain has a 'team' of which 10 out of 12 are forced on him and then he makes statements like everyone has to play on the opening day and keeps Westwood & Kymer playing and drops Poulter - sorry but that is just bad captaincy.  Captain/managers are paid to make tough decisions and that includes dropping or not playing people you have to be able to say 'look you are out of form your just playing in the singles because you have to!'

He has given it away!

Oh and Saturday's racing was tough outstanding best bet and the only winner from the leaderboard was Julian Ciampioli 9-1 winner of the Cambridgeshire to move from 12th to 5th.  Other 3 winners from a total of 54 bets were Barry Pemble 5-4, Jed Parramore also 5-4, & Rod Brown who got off the mark with a 13-2 winner.

Plate still very quiet Dave Kingsbury's 2 points was the only score.

Friday 28 September 2012

28sep12 back from football

CTFC move back into the playoff positions with a nice 2-0 win tonight - roll on Oxford in the JPT on 09oct12!

Late update again as more last at Wolverhampton selections!

50 bets today looks like we are all getting into it a bit more after a slow start - well except for Vince Paige who has thrown in the towel already :-).  So 8 winners today best was Ian Walters who got off the mark with a nice 15-2 winner but not quite enough to make the leader board.  Both 2nd Mark Sharman 5-1, and 3rd placed Paul Evans 7-2, closed in on the leader and Pat Quinn Jnr  13-2 moved 4th.

Plate all quiet, and we have all had at least one bet now so will confirm final prizes over the weekend,

Thursday 27 September 2012

27sep12 go USA

6 winners from the largest entry of the comp so far 44 bets.  Best by a distance was Daniel Billingham with a 12-1 winner to bring him back onto the leader board in 5th.  Alan Daniels got off the mark with a 13-2 winner to sit less than £1.00 from the leader board.  Other winners were Barry Pemble, Steve Walton & Wayne Morton all with the 8-13 shot Telescope (fav for 2013 Derby), the final winner was Joanne Hutson 7-1 to go back positive on +£2.00.

In the plate Steve Walton was the only winner so he takes over in 2nd.

Sorry this is late but people will keep picking runners in the last at Wolverhampton evening meetings!

RYDER CUP

Anyone want a bet at evens with me - I would like to back USA to win (tie no bet).

Let me know

26sep12 another big one

Mark Quinn leaps to the top with a 33-1 winner today clearly the best among the 7 winners, others of note were Celeste Beaty who moved back into 4th with a 6-1 winner and Dave Barker rose to 8th with his 11-4 shot.

In the plate Steve Walton moved back above me level points but on #of winners countback.

Tuesday 25 September 2012

25sep12 rubbish

No not the Twenty20 competition I meant the racing today - but I don't mean to suggest that the Twenty20 isn't rubbish!

Looked before start of play like a day to avoid and so it turned out to be, just 5 winners from 33 bets and nothing of any note.  Winners were James Foley who got of the mark with a 5-6 shot, Julian Micklethwaite who also got off the mark but with the best of the day 100-30 winner, Martin Broderick another scoring his first winner at 4-5, Matt Harrison 5-6, & Paul Evans 5-4 to close the gap a little on the leader. - See what I mean!

In the plate none of the leaders troubled the leaders at all- no one scored a single point.

Come on Val lets be having your first bet :-)

Monday 24 September 2012

24sep12 Bye John

Oh, and thanks for all the trophies we won!

6 winners from 36 bets today Dave Barker 9-4 to go 9th, Daniel Billingham 11-4, Matt Harrison 9-4, Martin Long 11-4 to go 8th, Pauline Giles gets off the mark with an even money winner and finally Robert Baker 9-4.

In the plate my 5 point 2nd saw me replace Steve Walton in 3rd place and Martin Long's 5 point winner put him back into the cash paying positions

Sunday 23 September 2012

23sep12 come on Spurs

We are rubbish this year so far - looks grim

6 winners today from just 18 bets, best was Julian Ciampioli 7-1 in a tough 16 runner race to go 8th, also Dave barker 5-2 to scrape onto the leaderboard, Jed Parramore & Adam Slater both with the same 2-1 winner, Dave Fifield 7-2, Pat Quinn Jnr with his 3rd winner to go third with a nice 13-2 winner.

Kevin Wood's 5 point 2nd place took him top of the plate.

Just one person left to have a bet - Val Impey then we can confirm prizes

Update excel on its way by email

22sep12 50-1 winner

50-1 winner (restricted to 33-1 of course under rule #25) for Paul Evans but still shoots him up to +£22.00 and 2nd place other winners were Kevin Woods a very nice 13-2 and 10 point winner, me 9-2, John Heneghan 11-8, Mark Kelly 5-1.

In the plate Kevin Wood's 3rd 10 point winner took him into 2nd place 5 bets in hand.

Sorry so late away in London yesterday

Friday 21 September 2012

21sep12 TFI Friday!

Always a good day for us if a few short price favourites win and so we collected 10 winners from the 33 selections today.  Best was the 7-1 winner secured by Adam Slater (to go 4th) and Bert Peart (to go 9th).   Every other winner was less than 2-1.

In the Plate a bit of movement as Steve Walton, Dave Kingsbury and Maurice Edgington all scored 5 points - so Alan Mabb's lead reduced to just 3 points and he has had 4 more bets than 2nd.

Eamon Kelly kicked of his campaign with a winner leaving just 5 to go.

Thursday 20 September 2012

20sep12 slow day

A very low 25 bets today because of plenty of non runners with Ayr abandoned.  Still managed a total of 6 winners, the best was Gary Pascoe 5-1, Scott Bennett 7-2, Ken Jones 4-5 and three guys selected Flow, the 8-11 winner at Yarmouth they were Steve Walton, Barry Pemble, and Gary Dighton.

In the plate Steve Walton moved up to 2nd as the only winner on the leaderboard.

Wednesday 19 September 2012

19sep12 massive winner

and a new leader Mark Sharman picks up a 33-1 winner (the maximum price permitted in the first 41 bet period) to obviously go top.  Paul Berg picked up his 3rd winner at 5-1 to go 6th.  There were 5 other winners Martin Long, Wayne Morton, Pat Quinn Snr & Tom Feeney both got off the mark, & Julian Ciampioli.

Some changes on the plate with Martin Long moving into 4th= after his 4th winner today.

Tuesday 18 September 2012

18sep12 new leader

5 winners today from 36 bets today Alan Mabb kept up his great start with his 6th winner of the competition  7-2 to go 95p in the lead.  Other winners were Vince Paige & Gary Dighton both with a 9-2 winner the best of the day, Dave Fifield who picked up his first winner at 7-2, & Martin Long with a 5-2 winner to go 6th.

Alan Mabb's winner took him a little further clear in the Plate as all the rest of leaderboard could only find 2 points between them.

Monday 17 September 2012

17sep12 back in blighty

6 bets again from slightly more bets today, 28, this low turn out is  pretty understandable as the racing is pretty dire at the moment.  Best of the day was Dave Kingsbury at 5-1 to leap up to 3rd spot.  Other winners were Paul Berg 8-11 to scrape onto the bottom of the leaderboard, Michael Brook 3-1, Lee Johnson 13-8 to bring up a double, Kevin Hall gets off the mark with a 5-2 winner and finally Daniel Billingham 3-1.

Leaders in the plate very quiet Alan Mabb picked a single point to go 4 points clear but 4 more bets.

7 still to play as Pauline Giles got started today.

Sunday 16 September 2012

16sep12 six of the best

Only 21 bets today but 6 winners and some nice ones!  Best were the 10-1 winner picked by both Mark Quinn & Pat Quinn Jnr that puts Pat 3rd and Mark joint 4th, other winners were Alan Mabb again 11-4 to stay 2nd, Martin Long 3-1 to return to the leaderboard in 9th, Justin Sercombe 2-5 a plate bet & finally Lee Johnson 7-4 to go 10th.

In the plate Alan Mabb's 5th winner from 8 bets so far, keeps him top with Justin Sercombe & Lee Johnson joining the leaderboard.

Still 8 to have their first bets and excel on its way to all.

Saturday 15 September 2012

15sep12 Beaut for Beaty!

Celeste Beaty, a new player this comp, hits a 16-1 winner today to leap to the lead and make the plate leaderboard as well, and on a very slow day the only other winner was Roger Dore 4-1 to move into 5th.

Sorry but the ride by the young O'Brien on Camelot did leave something to desire OK he could have still won if good enough given he had 1f to catch the winner, but when riding a 2-5 shot for the first triple crown in 40 years you must appreciate that one of the few ways you can get beaten is to not cover an early move and let someone slip the field and so give yourself too much to do.  For me that what happened if he had been on the outside the Godolphin runner would not have got the lead he stole and things might have been different.

Shows why it has been 40 years!

Friday 14 September 2012

picture gallery temp suspended

Problem is that it is not picking up latest shots from the gallery so working on it - meanwhile suspended while I sort out the link from Photobucket.com

Upside less pictures of Pete to keep looking at :-)

14sep12 nice day

Another 10 winners today highlights were Dave Barkers 9-1 10 point winner, the 3 guys who picked Times Up at 5-1 (Alan Mabb, Adam Slater & Roger Dore) that winner put Alan Mabb top of both competitions fair reward for yesterdays sportsmanship I think.  Other winners were me! Steve Walton who brought up the first treble of the comp, Celeste Beaty, Dave Kingsbury, Mark Dighton & finally Wayne Morton.

Top of the plate is very tight with Steve Walton in 3rd place and Mark Sharman in 30th place only separated by 10 points!

Now just 8 players yet to have their first bet.

13sep12 all change

AMENDED BLOG

Thanks to Alan Mabb for pointing out my error his and Dave Kingsbury's winner was 7-2 not 7-1 they still lead but by 3.50 less obviously!

9 winners today from 33 bets highlights were, Lee Johnson with a best of the day 8-1 to go to joint 4th and Alan Mabb who with Dave Kingsbury both grabbed a 7-1 winner to put them 1st & 2nd respectively, Kevin Wood went 2 from 2 to go 3rd and top of the plate.

In the plate some familiar names have started to appear apart from Kevin Wood on 20 Steve Walton's 2nd 5 pointer today put him 3rd and Alan Mabb's 3rd winner leaves him 2nd.  Justin Sercombe started with a 10 pointer and as he is 1 for 1 in reality sits on the leader board.

Pleased to report got on the board myself today with my first winner to lift the depression of being down in the depths or what we now call the Vince Paige zone!

Wednesday 12 September 2012

12sep12 1-1 here we go again

Just 5 winners today from 31 bets, they were Steve Walton & Mark Nutting both the same horse at 5-2, Pat Quinn Jnr best of the day 4-1, and Bert Peart and Lee Constable with the same 7-2 winner. Good to see no-one finding much so far - well from my lowly spot anyway!

All quiet in the plate.

Tuesday 11 September 2012

11sep12 steady

Another 4 winners from 36 bets today nothing of any great note.  Winners were Robert Baker 8-11 and all three of Alan Mabb, Mark Sharman & Danny Beaman who picked the same 2-1 winner.  So Alan Mabb became the first player to get a 2nd win and go top of the plate and 3rd overall.  Worthy of a quick comment was the 33-1 2nd that Mark Dighton picked for his first bet, unlucky and phew!

Still 18 players to have their first bet

10sep12 Will we ever hear the last of it!

Andy Murray of course!

4 winners from 33 bets today best was Paul Berg with a nice 7-1 winner others were Danial Billingham 4-1, Joanne Hutson 3-1, and Jake Fifield 11-4.

We welcomed an extra 3 players today Eamon & Grace decided to play after all plus a new Hereford guy Matt Harrison - good luck guys.

Sunday 9 September 2012

09sep12 very impressive start

10 winners on the opening day from just 23 bets a great start. Clearly easy to see who they were from the tables opposite.  Best was Pete Feeney at 15-2 well done.

Won't be sending the Excel update out tonight after just one day bit of a waste of time

We're Off

Shown over is the preliminary prize structure yet to be confirmed by the rules committee!

Of course it is never final until everyone has had a nap and we know they are in - so a couple of weeks

Saturday 8 September 2012

UNDER STARTER ORDERS

Well I'm ready to go tomorrow with a total of 66 runners files all set up so admin done!

Sad to see a few long standing players leave us this time such as Howard Kelly, Luke Silk and the very successful Stuart Bentham (that will give the rest of us a chance in the plate now).

Still waiting for a few which is why we are below 70 but looks like the Abingdon group of around are all now not going ahead.

Still plenty of time add people certainly anytime in the first two or three weeks would still be fine given we have 30 spare "no bet" days

Monday 3 September 2012

57 and counting

around 20 we have contacted and replies are due and a few more from Northampton and Milton Keynes are newcomers who are still possibles

Looks like we will miss my very optimistic 100 target but should be around 75

Saturday 25 August 2012

Next comp dates confirmed

We are definitely going with a start on 9th September not enough time to get everything sorted for an earlier kick off and so we will finish at Sandown on Tingle Creek Chase day, December 8th.

Vince will email everyone this weekend hopefully to start rounding up entries we already have about 20 confirmed and paid!!

Thursday 23 August 2012

New photos on their way

Pictures from the 28th July at Ascot (in the car park) now uploaded into the gallery.  Only read L to R me, Steve Walton, Paul Berg, & Pete Long turned up (and Pete wasn't even in this comp!).  Well Jo Hutson took the picture so she was there as well!

So Steve Walton accepted the cup as plate winner on behalf of Tom Feeney.

The cup is with the engravers and will be shipped to Tom next week.

next comp update

Messed up Vince not back until next Tuesday 28th so no way we will have time to get all the entries sorted for a 1st September start so looks like it will be the 9th September and finish at Sandown with the Tingle Creek.

Aiming for biggest ever comp maybe we could even get to 100!!

Sunday 19 August 2012

NEXT COMP

Vince & I back from hols next week so we will get some details together for the next comp which will start September and run through December to end either with the Tingle Creek @ Sandown or the Hennesey @ Newbury a week earlier.  Currently a slight preference for the Newbury day as it is easier for people to get to although given the turnout on the last couple that doesn't impact much :-).

Fell free to input if you have a strong preference and start rounding up those new players see if we can get a new record entry for the first half of the next jumps season

Monday 13 August 2012

It's finally over

At last no more Nicky Cambell Olympic 5 Live!

and 29 gold medals so that's just £300,000,000 each, less the resale value of the stadia in the Olympic Park so rounded that's no change then!

Just aiming for a little balance among the euphoria

Wednesday 1 August 2012

holiday break

Away in Northern Cyprus from tomorrow until 16th so don't expect much action here for the next 2 weeks

Awesome performance again today by Frankel - Jed Parramore went and said queues were massive compared to usual.

Tuesday 31 July 2012

Olympic Balance

Not saying this is entirely my view as well - but significant elements ring true!

"Here's a bunch of public money spent on restraining trade, shutting down free speech, littering the capital with white elephants, creating a two tier system in the public roadways, and providing a [free] jolly for for a cartel of self important shysters with an institutional history of corruption."

Sunday 29 July 2012

OVERALL STATS

3,111 naps (including 369 forced losers) for 508 winners and an overall loss of £765.74! about 18% win %
Clearly the loss is distorted by the search for long shots when players get a long way from the leaders.
We will be back for Comp #32 in September where we are expecting a massive turnout maybe even a first prize of £2,000 if we can get close to 100.

28jul12 ALL OVER

Summer holiday are here - phew!

Only 2 winners yesterday as everyone tried to hit a big winner and missed!  They were Jed Parramore 11-4, which moved him up just 4 places to 29th but the bet of the day was Michael Brook with a 12-1 winner to lift him from 20th to 11th on the final day just missing out on a prize.

Nice day at Ascot, strange to see the course so quiet so all very easy.  I think we did bring enough food to the car park picnic to cater for everyone we manfully plowed our way through it and the champagne!

Final excel on its way

Saturday 28 July 2012

NEWS FLASH FINAL RESULT

Jake Fifield's selection Riot of Colour finishes 2nd and so he just fails to catch Tom Feeney who holds on to win by £3.12 - CONGRATULATIONS. Rest of the leaderboard remained in the same spot.

In the plate mega exciting finish after Steve Walton's horse can only finish 7th and Justin Wood's selection at Ascot missed the required 2nd spot in the big handicap by a short head leaving Justin only picking up two points and finishing 1 behind.

So without the above just 2 winners today Paul Berg 8-1 to follow his 9-1 yesterday he's woken up far too late! and the leader Tom Feeney 5-2 to go £3.13 clear of Jake Fifield who will need at least a 9-4 winner and Tom Feeney to lose to overtake.

Vince Paige remains 44p ahead of Martin Long in their side bet and I am £28.22 ahead of Kevin Dighton in our side bet assuming the above loses

Everyone in the plate sat out.

Just 3 winners today but some nice prices but most important was Jake Fifield's 13-8 winner to lift him to just £1.02 behind Tom Feeney the leader now on level bets 2 to go each.  Others were Robert Baker 28-1 to lift him into the top half on -£8.85 but he has the honour of the largest winner of the comp, and finally Paul Berg at 9-1 still nearer the bottom than the top.

In the plate all that is left is the finishing order of the top two and it will go to the final day Steve Walton just 3 points clear of Justin Sercombe.

25jul12 500 up

500 winners up! not great really from 2649 real bets so less than 1 in 5.  Today 6 winners of most significance was Jon Curtis 4-1 to consolidate in 4th and stay clear of me in 5th, Ian carpenter with his 2nd 7-2 winner in a row moved into 6th and hot on my heals - bad day all round for me then :-(.  Other winners were Steve Walton 1-6, Bert Peart 5-2 to move to 7th, Scott Bennett 5-2 languishing in the depths of the bottom half and biggest of the day 9-1 for Jimmy McGarrity who maybe just gives himself a sneak at cash if he follows up with the same again tomorrow.

In the plate as was inevitable Steve Walton with his 1-6 winner took over at the top 2 points clear still with 1 bet in hand

24jul12 A big one today

6 winners from 41 bets including the biggest winner (to date) in this competition 25-1 for Lee Constable, luckily for us who were above him he was £23 down so he leaps up to +£1.83 and in 12th spot.  Other winners were Jake Fifield to close the gap right up again to just £1.65 after his 7-2 winner which was also selected by Ian Carpenter to lift him back into 9th place on the bubble.  Gary Dighton went tactical and gathered a 3-13 winner to go above Bert Peart.  Martin Long picked a 4-1 winner to go back above Vince by 56p! and finally Danny Beaman 4-1 only his 2nd winner of the comp!

In the plate we saw Rod Brown drop off the 5 man leader board replaced by Martin Long who is on the same points total but gets 5th on number of winners count back.

23jul12 new faces

A couple of decent winners that brings a couple of new faces top the bottom of the leaderboard Bert Peart now in 7th after his 14-1 winner & in 8th Gary Dighton after his 10-1 winner.  Only 2 other winners from 43 bets they were Steve Walton 1-5 clearly trying to make sure of the cash in the plate and Annette Berg 6-4 who brings up her 12th winner exactly 3 times as many as Paul :-).

In the plate Steve Walton in 2nd drew to within 3 points of the leader with 2 bets in hand, and Rod Brown has made the task of catching me in 4th a bit tough after another blank day he sits 28 behind with just 2 bets in hand.

22jul12 leaders power on

6 winners from 47 bets and top action at the top.  Jake Fifield struck first with a 3-1 winner but quality reply from Tom Feeney 9-1 winner and goes £6.15 clear - could be decisive.  Other top 10 winners were Justin Sercombe 8-13, Julian Ciampioli 100-30 & Ian Carpenter 2-1.  Other winner was Michael Brook 2-1.

In the plate Justin Sercombe who just has his final bet left sits on top 8 points clear of Steve Walton with three bets in hand.  So all Steve has to do is score 19 points from those 3, in hand, bets and he will secure the win (well against Justin Sercombe anyway Kevin Wood may still have something to say).
