NUMBER 36!

We are proposing the following dates for the next comp, this is the first in a carefully scheduled series of 3 designed to put us at Punchestown in April 2015.

We are going to start on Champion Hurdle Day that's Tuesday 11th March and finish a standard 91 days later at the evening meeting at Windsor on Monday 9th June. (my first nap is Un De Sceaux in the Champion Hurdle as I told you all on 22dec13!)

So get that Windsor date in your diary, block out some time in April 2015 for Punchestown, send in your entrance fee, and spread the word.

Never to early to sign up and also remember, what we now call the Vince rule, 'no pay - no play' :-)

PHOTO UPDATE - photo bucket is the system I'm using to deliver our album of pictures but it is missing all the recent photos.  So I'm deliberately breaking this and will connect in a few days to hope that we will then get a link to them all

Sunday 26 January 2014

25jan14 High Drama

Final day drama Jimmy picked Wishful Thinking morning price of 13-2, Spenser chose Lac Fontana 7-1 early so even if they both had winners it still looked like the order would be unchanged.  But Jimmy's strangely drifted in the ring to 9-1 meaning that if Lac Fontana won at 7-1 Spenser would win by 7p.  Lac Fontana duly won but at 4-1cf giving the title to Jimmy for the second time.  Champers all round on a big turnout for the final day - pictures will follow

3 other winners, please humour me, as I finally got off the mark for the comp with a 9-4 winner removing the ignominy of straighting the whole comp with no forced losers! The other two winners were Stuart Bentham and Vince Paige both with Annie at 1-6.

So a few stats:

Top number of winners Vince Paige & Barry Pemble 32 each a 52.5% win rate
Most selections in top 4 was Barry Pemble 90.2%
Unluckiest was Ian Carpenter 38 horses in the frame only 8 winners
Two failed to register a win, Lee Constable & Danial Billingham

Friday 24 January 2014

24jan14 just one winner

Just one winner on the penultimate day 7-2 for Martin Long to go 12th and back ahead of Vince by 26p (they have a standing side bet).

In the plate all is resolved except in theory Barry can catch Stuart with a 10 point winner to draw level and win on count-back.

See you all tomorrow

23jan14 leaders stationary

Only 2 winners today Richard Pascoe 6-1 & Adam Slater 9-4, so apart from the odd move lower down the leader boards as in hand bets unraveled nothing to report.

In the plate Justin Sercombe just needs 1 point from 2 bets to secure 2nd & Kevin Wood just need 3 points from his last 2 bets to condemn Gary Pascoe to the bubble!

22jan14 3 to go

Advantage Spenser as he sits out (and goes dormy) and Jimmy could not capitalise.  Five winners in total best was Rod Brown with a nice 7-4 winner to lift him to 4th, Tim Catlin 4-6, Wayne Morton best of the day 6-1, Justin Sercombe 4-6, Dave Kingsbury and Annette Berg both 4-1 which gives Annette 3 winners in the last 4.

In the plate Justin's 10 point winner probably secures 2nd spot as Stuart has to now make up 20 points in 3 bets, and Gary Pascoe's loser means he has probably lost the chance to catch Kevin Wood now who has one more bet to go an 8 point lead.

21jan13 Leader edges away

Only because Jimmy McGarrity used his extra bet and could only manage 2nd- unlucky.  Big move of the day and joint best of the day with Martin Long was Gary Pascoe, they both had a 6-1 winner which took Gary up to 4th and just got Martin back onto the foot of the table. Other winners were Barry Pemble 1-6, Tom Feeney 3-1 to move up to 6th, Stuart Bentham & Annette Berg both 7-4, Justin Sercombe 5-4.

Vince passes through the 300 point total today and all the others had winners so no changes Gary got a little closer to Kevin Wood who sat out still not impossible for Gazza to get there!

Thoughts about next comp

Strong view from some areas that it would be good to schedule another finish at Punchestown clearly for 2015 not this year. The trip in 2013 was a great success even with airport wandering!

If we were to take that as a firm marker that would mean starting something in Jan 2015, so continuing backwards, and missing Xmas 2014, the previous one ends say early to mid Dec 2014 so starts Sept 14, going back again, and missing say both July & August holiday seasons means April/May/June. But maybe don't like that as means we don't have a comp across the Cheltenham festival.

So what do we have:

Next one could start Saturday before Cheltenham 2014 finishing at Royal Ascot in mid June.

Followed by an Autumn 2014 comp for the start of the next Jumps season proper, ending Dec 14

Then Jan 15 through to April 15 to end at Punchestown Festival

and I get some time off from admin :-)

Discuss over drinks on Saturday?

20jan14 really slow

only 16 bets today 4 winners and 3 of them were the same 4-9 winner for Barry Pemble, Stuart Bentham, & Justin Sercombe, the other winner who took the best of the day award was Chris Pascoe 4-6 but enough to lift him higher than Gary which I'm thinking is what he is trying to do!  Both leaders sat out.

No change in the plate, other than Kevin Wood lost some ground he is in last cash spot the only threat is Gary Pascoe 13 points behind level bets.

19jan14 two losers

Top 2 both have losers and so Pat Quinn Jnr nudges a little closer after picking up a 7-2 winner, only three others they were best of the day Annette Berg 9-2, Steve Walton 6-4 & Craig Connelly 7-2 to go 16th just 39p off the leader board

Congratulations to Vince who now cannot be caught in the plate and is forging ahead posting into new highest score territory (when he should really be looking for winners in the main comp as he sits dormy!).  But a pretty spectacular performance to average over 5 points, some commiserations to Justin Sercombe as well he may well end up on a total that would have won every other competition.

18jan14 mass excitement!

Only one story today that was the best of the day 16-1 for 3rd placed Jimmy McGarrity to reel Spencer right back and sit in 2nd just £1.07 off the leader - that should make the final week a bit more squeaky for Spencer just as he was beginning to relax in front.

8 other winners most of them were the same one that was an 8-13 10 pointer from Naas a winner for Vince Paige, Justin Sercombe, Stuart Bentham, Kevin Wood, & Gary Pascoe.  Barry Pemble 5-4, Chris Pascoe 8-11 and Craig Connelly 7-4 were the others.

So all of the top 7 runners in the plate had winners but as Barry's was only 3 points that was sufficient to cost him 3rd place to Stuart.  Kevin Wood held off Gary Pascoe for the last cash place as they both scored 10 points.

17jan14 Friday's update

Sorry for the delay heavy Friday night!

5 winners on Friday they were Stuart Bentham 4-6, Paul Berg 11-2 to climb back onto the foot of the leader board, Pat Quinn Jnr best of the day 10-1 to snatch back second and reduce Spencer's lead a little, Justin Sercombe to also scrape back onto the leader board & Chris Pascoe 11-10 to retake 9th place and get with 66p of Gary Pascoe in 8th.

Vince is now 62 points clear we are in winner but not quiet mathematically territory.

16jan13 must be all over

Leader bangs in another winner this time 8-1 to put him more than £18 clear that was best of the day.  There were another 6 winners most of the same winner that was 10-11 for Vince Paige, Gary Pascoe, Justin Sercombe & Kevin Wood (10 points of course), the other two were Chris Pascoe 7-2 to move back into the cash in 10th and Barry Pemble clawing his way up the leader board with a second consecutive 4-9 winner, he now sits 6th.

Wednesday 15 January 2014

15jan14 top 2 forge on

Just 4 winners today 4-1 for Jimmy in 2nd & 3-1 for Spencer Mills in 1st help the pair push clear only others to trouble the scorer were  Annette Berg 3-1 and Barry Pemble 4-7 whihc was enough to move him back above Stuart into 3rd in the plate

Tuesday 14 January 2014

14jan14 just 3

3 winners Pete Long 11-4, Martin Long 11-10, and best of the day Jimmy McGarrity 8-1 to go 2nd

Monday 13 January 2014

13jan14 Big Winner

Tim Catlin picks a 16-1 winner to zoom back onto the leader board in 8th place, just 3 other winners Gary Pascoe 11-4 to move up 2 or 3 places to 9th and in the cash, Stuart Bentham 8-11 and Adam Slater a nice 8-1 winner to scrape onto the foot of the leader board.

In the plate looks like Vince is now regarding it a won and is looking for winners for the main comp - not unreasonable as it pretty much is all over.  Pretty exciting for 2nd, 3rd &4th with all to play for although not much cash difference, anyway Stuart Bentham's 5 points today enough to displace Barry from 3rd as both Barry & Justin sat out and both went dormy.  Gary Pascoe could still displace Kevin Wood from 5th spot he seems to be trying hard so looks like they might have side bets in play?

Sunday 12 January 2014

12jan14 ordinary day

5 winners Vince Paige & Stuart Bentham both with the 10 point 9-10 winner in Ireland, Pat Quinn 7-4 to close up a little on the leader in 2nd, Gary Pascoe 7-4 and best of the day for Barry Pemble at just 2-1.

In the plate the 10 points for Vince took him past the previous highest ever total points - good effort with 12 best to go.

Saturday 11 January 2014

11jan14 relentless pace

Being set by the leader who scored again today 5-2 to go £14.16 clear of the field.  5 other winners Barry Pemble 1-4, best of the day was Jon Hall 9-1 to go just £3.28 down in 18th spot, Paul Marks & Michael Brook both picked a 6-1 winner to both go positive and both onto the leader board, finally Chris Pascoe 5-6.

All quiet on the plate front

Friday 10 January 2014

Thursday 9 January 2014

10jan14 same again

8 winners today Spencer Mills the leader pushed even further into the lead with a nice 7-2 winner, Pete Long stopped the rot with a 15-8 winner just clinging onto the leader board!  Paul Creed & Colin Warmington also picked 7-2 winners that was enough to get Colin onto the leader board in 15th place, Craig Connelly was best of the day with a 4-1 winner, Annette Berg 4-7, Kevin Wood 15-8, and Dave Barker were the rest.

Following the nightmare with my phones and the lost texts at the weekend, we have accepted 3 missed bets that were all winners for Justin Sercombe, Stuart Bentham & Tom Feeney all of these winners were odds on, and were confirmed by the individuals betting patterns etc.  Appeals period is now closed

Surprisingly all the bets that went astray were winners no-one who had a loser came forward - life is full of such strange coincidences eh!

08jan13 a few more

Mainly for the plate boys 5 of them all picked the 2-5 winner at Donny (Vince, Barry, Justin, Stuart & Chris Pascoe) other winners were Tim Catlin 7-4 and best of the day 11-2 for Paul Marks and 5-1 for Adam Slater.

Despite all those winners and very rarely there was no movement in places on either leader board

Tuesday 7 January 2014

07jan13 dreary

5 winners Gary Pascoe 5-2 to move up a few places on the leader board Paul Creed & Pat Quinn Jnr both had a different 5-2 winner, Rod Brown & Stuart Bentham both had a even money winner.  So again no great shakes too many of us looking for the super winner now.

In the plate Barry scraped a 1 point 3rd place and takes over in 2nd place on number of winners countback.

06jan14 rubbish

Just 4 winners today and that includes the 3 plate boys (Gary Pascoe, Vince Paige & Barry Pemble) all picking the 10-11 winner in Ireland that leaves just one other who was Chris Pascoe with the best of the day 5-4 winner!

Monday 6 January 2014

05jan14 wet!

5 winners today with the leader, Spenser Mills stretching away with a 100-30 winner, Barry Pemble & Stuart Bentham both chose a 4-6 winner but with the non runners this ended up with only 7 runners.  Justin Sercombe 8-13 and best of the day for Michael Brook to return to the leader board with his 5-1 winner.

Don;t forget that the odds restriction is now lifted for the rest of the comp all long shots now count for full value.

Saturday 4 January 2014

Wednesday 1 January 2014

01jan14 year starts nicely

7 winners on a rough old day- too bad to venture out to the course for me today!  Best of the day was Carl Dean with a 7-1 winner, Gary Pascoe, Stuart Bentham & Vince Paige all selected the same even money winner.  Barry Pemble who, now he looks completely secure in the cash in the plate, appears to have switched to the main comp bagged a 11-8 winner to go 7th.  Martin Long returned to the leader board after securing a 7-2 winner, and finally the leader banked a small 4-5 winner to consolidate at the top.

In the plate Vince now sits on a pretty impregnable 60 point lead.

Paul Stobbart has finished his bets today (apart from the final day) and has posted a total of £13.28 which would be enough to move him back up to 2nd if those above him don't carry on picking winners
