30mar12 days final results

no winners in the late runners final positions before today's final bet as over.

Don't forget all bets must be timed to run before the final race at Stratford i.e. 5.35 so we can award the cup on course.

Friday 30 March 2012

30mar12 no surprises

5 bets remain from today mainly after 8.00pm so final update will be in the morning after all it is Friday night.  Nothing dramatic so far Julian Ciampioli has closed to just £9.35 after a small winner today.  Jimmy Mcgarrity's winner at 5-2 means he only need to find a 10-1 winner tomorrow to get into the cash (assuming Danny Beaman loses of course).

All the result in for the top 5 in the plate so the update table over is the final position before the last bet tomorrow - all to play for still in the top three almost too exciting :-).

See you tomorrow

29mar12 two to go

6 winners - the only one of significance was Julian Ciampioli with a 9-4 winner to get to just £11.18 behind the leader both with two bets to go.

No decisive moves in the plate, they all missed so any big 10 pointer in these last couple of days could decide the winners cash. Justin Sercombe and Trevor James both win a £50.00 prize each for 4th & 5th, first to third still up for grabs.

another interesting fact

We passed through the 25,000 visit to the blog this morning - thanks to all those that waste their time reading this rubbish :-)

We should also set a new monthly record number of visits this week and break 4,000 for the first time

28mar12 nearly there

A very healthy 12 winners today from 63 bets and rather excitingly it was me who had the best of the day a 6-1 winner to go 12p up and in 13th place, too far from the cash with only 2 bets left.  Other winners of note were all of the top 3 that's Paul Berg 13-8, Julian Ciampioli 2-1 and Kevin Wood 11-10 to claim 3rd spot from Barry James.

Vince Paige recorded his first ever forced loser today in any of the 30 competitions we have held the more amazing aspect of that fact was he blamed pressure of work that certainly would be a first!

Very exciting (obviously in naps comp terms here) at the top of the plate the top 4 all having failed to score yesterday all recorded winners today looks like the top three could be down to countback, with Trevor James looking set for 5th now.

27mar12 just two

2 winners from 60 bets Gavin Bosse 5-2 and Tim Catlin with the best winner at 5-1 meant he swapped places with Danny Beaman in 9th & 10th place.

Despite none of the top 5 in the plate even picking up a single point that was enough to mean they all can't be caught and now they are just playing for which prize.

26mar12 big one today

Don't worry Paul you are safe! But Andy Wilson found a 33-1 winner to move from the very depths to 29th.  Other two winners on a very slow day were Annette Berg with her 15th winner but she still lies in the bottom half - (expect she has an eye on a share of Paul's very likely £1,500 1st prize) and Ross Harvey who picked up just his 2nd winner at 4-1.

In the plate the only scorer was the single point gained by Kevin Wood so no real change.

next comp proposal

Done a bit of chatting today and we are thinking that the next comp will run from Sunday 29th April (I need a few weeks away from the admin!) through to Diamond Day at Ascot on Saturday 28th July.

Up for discussion Saturday at Stratford or post your views here.

Sunday 25 March 2012

25mar12 last week

Another miserly day again with only 5 winners from 59 bets.  They were Stuart Bentham 5-6, who suffered a late non runner that reduced the field to 7 and cost him 2 points and 2nd in the plate! Justin Sercombe the same 5-6 winner, Julian Ciampioli -4-11 nice tactic.  Howard Kelly recorded the best of the day with a 6-1 winner but he remains well down.  The other winner was Eamon Kelly 3-1 to consolidate his 8th place.

25mar12 today's naps

Paul Berg               - no bet
Julian Ciampioli   - Rival D'estruuval Hex 3.40

Tim Catlin             - no bet
Adam Slater          - no bet
Danial Billingham -  Carsonstown Bridge Dow 5.20

24mar12 another slow day

Only 5 winners from 66 bets.  They were Wayne Morton 4-1 to go just 66p down, Shaun Johnson 5-1 but remains in the bottom half, Barry Pemble 4-7, Danny Beaman 4-1 to go into the top 10 in 9th & Julian Ciampioli to go to +£39.32 and clear in 2nd.

Barry Pemble the only winner in the plate looks like favourite now for the £200 first prize with only 6 bets to go for all three leaders.

Saturday 24 March 2012

today's naps

sorry guys can't put up the list today as some selections not in yet and I'm off to Cheltenham v Oxford.  Unfair advantage to show selections when others in the top 10 haven't chosen.

Friday 23 March 2012

23mar12 just two

Just 2 winners today the leader Paul Berg 5-2 to move over £20 clear of 2nd and me 13-8 to bring up a double and move me up to 16th.

In the plate Stuart Bentham used up his bet in hand to gather a disappointing 1 point on a 4-5 favourite late tonight at Wolverhampton.  But it was just enough to lift him to 2nd on countback of number of winners.

23mar12 today's naps

Thursday 22 March 2012

22mar12 even worse

Just 5 winners today from 64 bets (assuming Ken Jones' loses in the 9.00pm!).  But all of some significance 4 of the 5 affected the top 10.  The big winners were Barry James, moved 3rd, and James Foley, now 5th, who both picked the same 7-1 winner.  Danny Beaman hit an 11-2 shot to join Tim Catlin in joint 10th, Eamon Kelly's 9-2 winner put him 8th.

The only other winner was me at 11-4 and 10 points in the plate where all of the top 8 recorded zero points except me - just a slight glimmer of 5th place and cash for me but only if I straight the last 9 bets :-)

Wednesday 21 March 2012

21mar12 bad one

A very poor return today 6 winners from 62 bets the best was Steve Walton at just 7-2, the 5 others were all short priced and the only winner in the top 10 was Eamon Kelly in 10th but it was not enough to move him from that spot.

In the plate Stuart Bentham scraped a small 3 point winner which pulled him to within a point of Kevin Wood in 2nd still with 1 bet in hand.

Tuesday 20 March 2012

20mar12 11 to go!

7 winners from 64 bets today.  The only one from the top 10 was the leader Paul Berg who is coasting to victory.  In the places just outside the prizes Danial Billingham collected a 7-2 winner to go 11th and Adam Slater a 6-4 shot to go 12th.

In the plate Stuart Bentham stayed 3rd but used one of his bets in hand wisely collecting 5 points and putting the pressure on the two above.

Photos still don't show it takes ages for Photo Bucket to get the links sorted

Monday 19 March 2012

19mar12 Olympic Glory

No not me! Mark Nuttings's wife Lynnie is getting to carry the torch on 23rd May - look out for the pictures - talking of which I posted 3 new ones not sure if the links are up yet.  Look out for the sad one of Paul Berg and a new recruit for the next comp watching racing on the phone not so bad maybe - well not until you realize that they were just looking at the Betfair market in running and getting excited at that :-)

Back to today, 10 winners 5 of them the same 11-8 winner in Eire for 10 points pretty much all round in the plate.  More importantly in the main comp some movement at the top Jon Curtis finally woke up having notched up 7 forced losers in the past 8 days with a 9-1 winner to zoom back up to 4th well in the mix.  Kevin Wood crept closer with the 11-8 winner and now sits 3rd, Julian Ciampioli and Paul Berg both sat out.  Other winners included Barry James 13-2 to go 6th and Danny Beaman 7-1 to make it onto the bubbling under chart in 13th.

Sunday 18 March 2012

18mar12 steady Sunday

7 winners from 57 bets main movers were Kevin Dighton whose 4-5 winner lifted him to 3rd above Kevin Wood, the same 4-5 winner kept Julian Ciampioli on the move towards Paul Berg the leader.  Jake Fifield 2-1 winner ended a good week for him with 4 winners from the last 5 and 7th place.

Order in the plate remained unaltered although Trevor James in 5th is maybe starting to find it hard to keep up with the leaders as we round the final bend and come into the home straight.

17mar12 double update

Friday saw just 5 winners from 65 bets George Casserley and Jake Fifield both picked up a 7-1 winner, Kevin Dighton also 7-1 to close out emphatically the side bet with me, Tim Catlin went off piste to Lingfield to also bag a 7-1 winner to move back into the top 10 but Pete Wilson just topped that with the Gold Cup winner at 8's

Saturday saw 8 winners from 63 bets (21 forced losers included!).  Best two were James Foley 12-1 to go 5th and Julian Micklethwaite with the same 12-1 shot to move into the top half on -£4.00.  Steve Walton hit 10-1 winner to go to -£8.36 and 32nd.

In the plate after a less than successful Cheltenham for the leaders most of the plate nipped off to Eire for a 10 point 4-9 winner, top 5 look secure there for the cash just to decide the order now.

Will post some new Cheltenham photos later which should appear after a few days!

Friday 16 March 2012

16mar12 gold apologies

Following a day when I have not been short of liquid refreshment and Pete, Richard & I are just about to have dinner + more liquid refreshment there will be a delay in the updating admin.

That includes Saturday where i need to be on the coach to Wales V France in Cardiff by 9.30!

A quick flick through the texts it certainly looks like very few winners maybe only three and Kevin Dighton well and truly stuff me in the side bet recording 3 winning naps at the festival to my none! I bow to the master.

Thursday 15 March 2012

15mar12 too busy

Got to go out so pretty brief 7 winners lots of movement in the top 10 & I'm just about sunk in my bet with Kevin Dighton as he had another winner!

Big Bucks was brilliant those of you not there missed a great sporting moment!

Wednesday 14 March 2012

14mar12 slower

7 winners from 67 bets, 3 got the 5-1 winner of the opener Terry Mathews, Julian Ciampioli (is there any stopping this boy) & Kevin Wood to consolidate their posi in the top 10.

Nothing else of note!

Need to leave drinks start at 7.30 in town - above assumes Shaun Johnson's pick at Kempton tonight loses!

Tuesday 13 March 2012

12mar12 good start

A very healthy 13 winners today from 66 bets.  Best was in the opener by Julian Micklethwaite 10-1 but that still left him in the bottom half.  4 selections for Hunt Ball at 13-2 they were Kevin Dighton now gone 4th, Julian Ciampioli consolidated in 2nd, Adam Slater pushes him up and into 13th and finally Jake Fifield who sits on the bubble in 11th.

In the plate Justin Sercombe sat out and so all the others napped Quevega to collect 10 points and relegate him back to 5th.

Both Danial Billingham and Robert Baker went dormy today.

A bit of a reminder if you are on course tough to get texts etc. out quickly so leave plenty of time especially if you are napping in an early race.

Monday 12 March 2012

My day 1 Chelters bet

Buy Robert Thornton in the jockey's performance index - price not yet quoted and he only has 3 rides so some caution I would say leave alone if quote is bigger than say 13-16

12mar12 getting excited yet?

Pre the "big one" another tough day just 4 winners from 54 bets.  All the big leaders playing a tactical game and sitting out in both the plate and main comp - well except Kevin Dighton who very misguidedly seems to have already started carving his name on the cup - see you Thursday Kev!

Kev got another bet for you I'm currently £10.39 behind you the bet is that I'll be nearer than that after Friday - loser buys the other an entry to the next comp, then we will see tactics.  Our bets texted to Steve Walton for the next 4 days in the interest of fairness.

So some guys had winners! Eamon moved up two places on the strength of a 11-10 winner, but the best of the day was Joanne Hutson and Mark Dighton who both picked a 6-1 winner - the other was Rod Brown with 11-10.

Plate unaltered - Pete Long went dormy today

Sunday 11 March 2012

11mar12 more big changes

59 bets today but that included 19 forced loser for the guys who are dormy, 7 winners overall and the standout was our sponsor and former leader who has well and truly put the 22 runner losing streak behind him with a 16-1 winner today to go straight up to 6th.  James Foley 4-1 moved up to 8th, other winners didn't change anything in the top 20.

In the plate Justin Sercombe's 2nd 10 point winner in a row moved him up two places to 3rd on number of winners countback.  All getting very tight at the top of the plate.

Both Nick Bosse and Mark Quinn finished all the permitted bets today (they have to keep the 61st bet for the final day at Stratford).  Mark Quinn deserves a special mention for picking 60 straight losers and he has been trying not just long shots - a pretty amazing feat! Hope you have not been backing them, of course he will straight the whole of Cheltenham now :-)

Luke Silk went dormy today.

Saturday 10 March 2012

10mar12 tough one

Only 4 winners from a new world record total of 68 bets today, but some good ones.  Clearly the best was the leader Paul Berg who picked up a 20-1 winner just to remove any doubt from the rest of us that he is going to win now he sits so far ahead.  Other winners were Justin Sercombe 14-1 & 10 points, Barry James 4-1 to move up a place into 4th & Julian Ciampioli 13-8 to consolidate 2nd.

Friday 9 March 2012

09mar12 Gers saved

8 winners from 58 bets today the best was Kevin Dighton who finally brought his 22 losing streak to a close with a 11-1 but Gavin Bosse followed up yesterday's good winner with another 6-1 to go into the top 10, Dave Barker 13-2 to get close to break even, Joanne Hutson selection policy finally pays off when Dream Performance won at 4-1 :-)

In the plate Barry opened up a 10 point lead with today's 5 pointer the other missed out

Thursday 8 March 2012

08mar12 another slow day

5 winners from 59 bets the best was the 11-1 winner secured by both James foley (to go 9th) and Gavin Bosse, other winners were Wayne Mortin 7-4 to nip back into 10th, Pete Wilson 7-1 and Annette Berg 15-8.

In the plate no change in the order after everyone missed or sat out

Wednesday 7 March 2012

07mar12 not long now

6 winners from 56 bets today.  Julian Ciampioli the most significant with 11-10 but enough to get him in to 2nd place, other winners were Julian Micklethwaite 5-1, Mark Orlando, Billy Bray, Michael Brook, but the  best of the day 13-2 Kevin Wood, that took him up to 4th in the main comp matching his position in the plate.

Tuesday 6 March 2012

06mar12 goody new whip rules

a very poor return today just 4 winners from 64 bets, they were Martin Long 5-6, Kevin Wood 5-6, Gary Cawsey 7-1, and Paul Evans 4-1.  No changes in the order of the top 10 at all.

No changes in the order in the plate either!

Monday 5 March 2012

05mar12 Vlad the fiddler

Whats wrong with these Russian guys he would have won anyway!

Just 7 winners from 62 bets today Julian Ciampioli continued his inexorable march to the top with a 3-1 winner, the best of the day, now just £1.21 behind 2nd and with three more bets it looks like Jon Curtis has had it!  Long time leader Paul Berg (who hasn't had a mention for ages as he hasn't had a winner for ages) is next in the firing line.  Other winners were Adam Slater, Eamon Kelly who moved 6th after a 3-1 winner, Mark Dighton, Mark Nutting, Steve Walton, and Tony Norton who moved to 15th with a 9-4 shot.

In the plate 2 points to Barry Pemble was all today, Gary Pascoe became the 7th person to get to 100 points.

Sunday 4 March 2012

04mar12 Sacked

Interesting to watch very wealthy men used to getting their own way finally getting shown that man management matters and cash alone is not enough

8 winners from 45 bets although 15 of them were forced losers!  Best was a nice 12-1 for Billy Bray but he was well back so only moves to about mid way.  Danny Beaman followed up Friday's 16-1 winner with a 5-1 today to move into the cash in 9th, Julian Ciampioli banged in yet another winner and with Jon Curtis dormy and picking up a forced loser is looking likely to at least chase down 2nd place.  Martin Long picked up another winner to go 15th on +£5.22.

In the plate lots of non runners for the leaders except Stuart Bentham who picked up a five point winner

Remember the 33-1 maximum is lifted for the last 21 bets (rule #25) so for those who are dormy that will be from next Saturday.  Plenty of others are already past that point.

Excel update on its way

Saturday 3 March 2012

03mar12 Gillespie at the footy

Never mind the festival organisation - Cheltenham are going up!

Must have been a tough one today only 4 winners from 59.  Julian Ciampioli almost did it again with a 100-30 winner only Robert Baker sneaking into 9th with his 5-2 winner stopped him from recording another only winner from the top 10 day.  Only other winners were Jimmy McGarrity 7-4, and Tony Murray again to bring up his treble with the best of the day 4-1.

Everyone, yes everyone, in the top 5 in the plate all picked the same odds-on shot at Navan and it got turned over but they still all got a 5 point for the 2nd place - this now opens up a 19 point gap down to me in 6th place.

Jon Curtis, Mark Nutting, Terry Matthews, and Jake Fifield all went dormy today

Friday 2 March 2012

02mar12 nul pointe

Well that's my prediction!

51 bets just 7 winners the stand out performance of the day was 16-1 for Danny Beaman to move him up to a very competitive +£5.50 and 16th place £4+ away from cash.  100-30 for Martin Long moved him to +£4.12 and 18th, Vince Paige brought up his 5 timer with a 9-4 winner.  Not sure anyone has ever used the words five timer and Vince in the same sentence before!  Tony Murray picked up a double with an 11-2 winner but still nearer the bottom than the top.  Kevin Wood moved up a couple of places on the main leaderboard with a 5-2 winner to go 8th and 4th in the plate as well.

Gary Cawsey went dormy today

Thursday 1 March 2012

01mar12 I'm a believer

8 winners today from 49 bets, best by far was the 12-1 shot for Nick Bosse to move him to 38th from the depths.  Vince brought up a 4 timer to move to 31st - shows how far behind he was :-), Kevin Hall picked a 2-1 winner to bring up a treble and move 27th but only -£2.10 down.  All the other winner were pretty short priced.

Barry Pemble moved 8 points clear with his winner today at the top of the plate - level bets.

Tony Norton & Kevin Dighton joined those who are dormy today, others that need to watch out with only one spare bet left are, Robert Baker, Kevin Hall, Terry Matthews, Dave Ward, Joanne Hutson & Gary Cawsey.
